Interesting:

Dillon Stoner’s path to Raiders’ 53-man roster
Will undrafted free agent squeeze his way onto roster?

by Bill Williamson

The Athletic dropped an interesting nugget Monday when it reported that the Las Vegas Raiders’ expect undrafted free agent wide receiver Dillon Stoner to make the 53-man roster.

It’s fascinating that the team thinks an undrafted rookie will make the roster this early in the process. Clearly, Stoner must be standing out in the OTA sessions.

But there is a long way to go. He will need to shine throughout training camp and in the preseason.

Additionally, Stoner’s journey is interesting because the Raiders have a crowded group at wide receiver. It will be difficult for any undrafted player to crack the 53-man roster at wide receiver. The Raiders will probably keep six receivers, perhaps they can carry seven if it is warranted, but that’s pretty rare and would take away from another spot on the roster.

Basically, if Stoner makes the roster, someone unexpectedly won’t make it, unless there is an injury at the position.

2020 draft picks Henry Ruggs III, Bryan Edwards, slot receiver Hunter Renfrow and newly-signed veterans John Brown and Willie Snead are all locks to make the roster. That leaves veteran Zay Jones (who Raiders coach Jon Gruden really likes), Marcell Ateman, Keelan Doss, Trey Quinn, DJ Turner, Caleb Scott and Stoner all fighting for one spot.

The way I read it now is the Raiders see a higher ceiling for Stoner, an Oklahoma State product, than Doss and Ateman, who were both former camp darlings themselves. I could see the last spot coming down to Jones and Stoner.

However it shakes out, it’s going to be fun to watch develop this summer.

Stoner’s a local kid I watched at powerhouse Jenks High School. He played safety, wide receiver and returner on a state championship team. He also ran track and was an excellent 400M guy. Nothing but quality and class at OK State, but never the primary receiver. Just a good looking, smart kid from a great family. A type rarely found in the NFL.

Dillon is one of three white receivers from the 2021 draft that I think definitely belong on 53 man rosters this year. The other two are Dax Milne and Blake Proehl. Only Milne was drafted.

Raiders stock piling some White talent at the position. Renfrow is a lock and now hearing good news for Stoner. Then you have Trey Quinn and Caleb Scott still hanging around.

*Also calling Willie Snead a "lock" to make a roster is friggin hilarious. He's always been the epitomy of an average WR with upside to hang around..I remember watching a game either last year or year before and they were saying "yeah Willie came into the season a bit out of shape blah blah." Must be nice to be short, fat, and slow and still get calls from teams.

Trey Quinn is a good player who, unfortunately, has been plagued by injuries. If he can stay healthy I think he would easily stick with a team.

So true, Snead epitomizes mediocrity.

Hey who ever Bill Williamson is....Willie Snead is NOT a LOCK to make the 53! Are you a special Scout Bill?

Trey Quinn will beat Snead out ((if he stays healthy)) & likely be Renfrow's back up. Would like to see those Two on the field at the Same time(even in 4 WR sets) !

Can see Dillon Stoner as a Practice Squad player; hoped he would be taken late in the Draft. (BIG FAN of his posting Weekly Re=Caps waiting for his stats).! But the landed in a good spot. Hard to envision the Raiders(or any team not named the Vikings) allowing 3 white WR's on a Final Roster

Damn... I always thought he was an underrated player.
Now that he is a butt pirate, harder to support him.
I’m all for supporting white athletes, but I have a Biblical set of morals instilled in me as well.

I’m conflicted but still want him to play well.

Unfortunate coincidence that in a 3/4 black league where so many of the white players have to fight for spots on the fringes of the rosters, the first proud homosexual is one of the few white regulars.

Steve Sailer has a quip from years ago that I've always remembered regarding gays in sports. If gays were represented at their nationwide levels, we would have seen a bunch of major league pitchers dropping dead from AIDS in the 80s. But we didn't, because they're not.

I want to try to avoid being cruel, but Nassib is no longer an athlete I could support. I'm sure he has positive personal qualities, and his homosexuality does not discount the prejudice he faces naturally as a white player. That does not outweigh the fact that he's publicly joined in the anti-family, anti-Western, anti-white culture war as a crusader for the other side. So no, I don't wish him any success.

The press is going to love this. Nassib will probably hit the talk show circuit and be paraded as brave blah blah blah.

In the old days you might know a guy was gay, but they never felt the need to celebrate it. I blame the evil commies in the media.

This is how you destroy society in our country and all around the world. Like in California where we have a transgender running for the govenor and the repulicans are supporting he/she or whatever
you want to call the person. We must get back to our roots. Bring God back everywhere and get this wickidness out of socitey. It's probably too late but we need to keep fighting.

It's theorized that there are as many as 3-4 gay players in each NFL locker room, is it just me or is it a bit fishy that the first active player to come out publicly is white?

The corporate media Clown World is covering it as though Nassib is "courageous" as are the players and media for supporting him, when of course it's mandatory that everyone do so. Real courage would be a player not supporting him, or even saying who cares. "Representation matters" unless it's a non-approved opinion.

Raiders DL Carl Nassib became the first openly gay NFL player.
It's a watershed announcement in the league's history. Nassib, 28, in a Monday video statement said he's gay, a revelation over which he's "agonized" for 15 years. Nassib's announcement comes seven years after LB Michael Sam -- a seventh round selection by the Rams -- came out as gay. Sam did not make the team, and never played a regular season snap. Other players have come out after their NFL careers, keeping their sexuality a secret for fear of ruining their careers. "I'm a pretty private person so I hope you guys know that I'm not doing this for attention," Nassib said. "I just think that representation and visibility are so important." Nassib's announcement elicited an overwhelmingly positive response from the team, the league, and journalists covering the NFL. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said he is “proud of Carl for courageously sharing his truth today. Representation matters.” Vegas DL Darius Stills and EDGE rusher Maxx Crosby voiced support for their teammate after his groundbreaking announcement. Nassib signed with the Raiders in 2020 after two seasons in Cleveland and two years in Tampa. He recorded 12.5 sacks during his two seasons with the Bucs. Last year, Nassib had 2.5 sacks in 14 games, five of which he started.

If I was a reporter I’d ask players if they minded getting his blood on them? That’s got to come up right? How about the trainers when he gets cut? We just closed down the world because of a bad flu virus what are the precautions if this guy starts spraying blood around?

His comment he didn’t do it for “attention” is a joke. That’s all he is going to get now. This part time player is going to be a footnote in history. On the bright side it’s one white player that will be difficult to cut.

With the last name Nassib, maybe we should now designate him as Arab and Muslim and therefore let the professional POC fully embrace him.

Yes what a great idea. I agree. They can have him. The last thing we need is our guys to be the wrong role models to the children.

Don't get involved the super macho tough guy black dudes deserve to be shoved down the intersectional pole of privilege. Besides the white and jewish left don't care for blacks in general have you noticed how much in their media outlets its the gay black guy. I'd say to a righteous black man make hay while this sun shines because they own the light switch on it.

I would respect Nassib if he would’ve just lived his life. Then, if someone outed him as gay, he could simply say “my sex life is my personal business.” End of story.

They’ll find or create someone to turn into the new John Rocker role. 99% sure it will be an opposing white offensive lineman chosen for this position as saying a naughty word to the brave flamer. Then they can keep him around for a couple weeks while DWF’s boo and taunt the alleged new Rocker. His house and family surrounded by paid merc’s masquerading in as Antifa morons.

Whoever gets chosen for this role will be much braver than Nassib’s deviancy.

I had the same thought. He is in no way, shape or form "brave". If he was not seeking any sort of attention then he would not of brought this attention upon himself in the first place.

I agree 100% on this. The PTB always use constant distractions to keep the normies hating each other while they continue to build their New World Order.

I will no longer support Nassib on the field. With that said, I do feel somewhat sorry for him. It is highly likely that he was sexually abused / molested as a child. There is plenty of circumstantial evidence that is how sodomites become the way they are. It’s is a sad cycle of abuse and grooming.

What I hate is all the support this pervert is getting from the NFL players and the media and of course Hollywood. If attention is what he is wanting play better on the football field.
