This video was made around 25 years ago, and STILL the narrator uses the proper "caste system approved coded lingo" to describe Steve's talent on the field. Some of the catches and runs in this video are flat out amazing. Anyone who doesn't think this guy was a great athlete is just plain blind. Even the blacks in the video refer to him as "fast". Here's to you Steve.

Does this guy look like he lacks "hip swivel"?

I don't think so.

One of the best for sure. I was watching, and he is a great, mobile athlete who has made some amazing plays. It's frustrating to hear him say that he doesn't consider himselfa great athlete but rather a great football player. Well, if the blacks covering him say he is a great athlete, then how can he not consider himself one?

Anyway, great footage. Here is another one of Largent getting revenge on Harden.

I remember Largent one time taking a position on special teams late in his career to get revenge on a black player that he thought had tried to hurt him earlier in the game. He absolutely leveled the guy on a return. I can`t remember the name of the team or the specific player, though.(I do remember the announcers` surprise during the replay when they realized it was Largent.)

Does anyone recall the details of this play?

See the video Alpha Male posted above. That's what you're referring to. I remember the original hit and then Largent's sweet revenge.

I have this memory of Largent also taking out a guy on a kick return, not only on an interception. He positioned himself perfectly for a crackback block and just leveled the guy. The announcers were stunned when they realized it was Largent. The annihilation of Harden is not the same play. I`ll have to look around the Internet a little more.

Here is another one i donot know if this is some kind of joke?? But they are dead on in the first 30 seconds with adjectives used to describe white wr's. Gritty, deceptive speed, possesion receiver, good route runner, lol funny a fan noticed it!

I've seen that video Celtic, surprisingly I found it pretty funny. And the good thing is, it brings some awareness to the caste system. It makes people think about all the ridiculous run of the mill stereotyping with no announcer/analyst being able to speak outside the box even when their eyes tell them differently.

I've got a new one; Largent has "deceptive elusiveness".

Maybe it was deceptive b/c the black defenders were deceived when a white guy juked them out of their shoes.

I haven't seen a lot of footage, but I've heard Largent is a lot like Jerry Rice in many ways, is that true?

Good highlights of one of the best WRs in NFL history. That was awesome payback on Hardin!

Largent and Rice are comparable in that neither had top-end speed yet were dominant receivers.

Onecould compare Largent more to Wayne Gretzky or Larry Birdin thathe had a masterful understanding of his position and how to get open. Size-wise and athletically he wasn't special; what he was, wasthe last white receiver "allowed" to be great before the Caste System put the clamps down. He and John Riggins played during roughly the same era, when the white superstars at the forbidden positions were already beginning to disappear. After Largent and Riggins were done, that was it, for a quarter century and counting now.

There were many gifted white receivers post-Largent who could have had great careers, but we know what the situation is in I-Aand the NFL.

When Largent retired, he held all major NFL receiving records, including: most receptions in a career (819), most receiving yards in a career (13,089), and most touchdown receptions (100). He was also in possession of a then-record streak of 177 consecutive regular-season games with a reception.

He was a beast in the day but sadly no one remembers him in the annals of NFL records.

I remember Steve Largent when he was drafted by the Houston Oilers. I liked his name and was very sorry to see him cut (I was an Oiler fan). Still wish he had played in the Bayou City.

A great player.

Whoops, my brother reminds me that Largent wasn't cut by the Oilers but traded to Seattle.

Here's a pic of him (#83) in college at Tulsa, circa 1974 against North Texas State:

most of you might not know this. i certainly didn't, until Largent gave an interview during the last Tulsa game broadcast on ESPN anyway. he had his jersey retired before the game and talked with the guys commentating in the booth for a bit during the game.

Largent said Tulsa was the only school to offer him a scholarship!

Largent added that he'd have been in the Army if Tulsa hadn't given him one. and as he said, he didn't mean playing for the Army; he'd have been carrying a machine gun and a rucksack overseas somewhere.

i mean, wow.

Jimmy where did Largent grow up?? It seems to me if you are a white athleteand don't live in one of the big football states CA,Fl,Pa, or TX it seems it is even harder to garner national recruiting interest. So many white athletes have to take the same route Largent did, it is not funny!

celticbd15, Largent grew up in Tulsa, so they knew about him from the start. I agree with you though, in that if you are a white skill position player in one of the states you mentioned, you typically have a better chance of being noticed and recruited. This is especially true when you compare white skill players from one of those states and MIssissippi, a state where a majority of public school students are blacks and most high schools are majority black. I would hate to be an extremely talented white DB or WR in a Mississippi public school. It would pretty much be a dead end, unless you went to play JuCo ball or take the walk on route.
