From Lawrence paper:

Singler to announce decision Friday at 5 p.m.

Kyle Singler, the No. 4 prospect in the 2007 basketball class, will
announce his college choice at 5 p.m. CST Friday. His dad, Ed Singler,
said the announcement will be made at South Medford HS in Medford,
Ore.

Sources say Singler is expected to announce his intent to play at Duke.

Singler is also ranked on rivals.com as the top small forward in the nation
from that class. After averaging 20.5 points and 5.4 rebounds per game
as a junior, the 6-foot-9 prospect had narrowed his college choices to
Arizona, Duke and Kansas.

Singler was in attendance at Allen Fieldhouse for Late Night on Oct. 13.

In other recruiting news, James Anderson, 6-foot-6 forward from Junction
City, Ark, will not be visiting Kentucky this weekend. Kansas and
Oklahoma State have emerged as his top two schools, as his high school
coach Joe Hammett told rivals.com. Also according to Hammett, Florida,
Kentucky and Arkansas have not been eliminated from his list officially.
Anderson is ranked 34th overall on rivals.com in the Class of 2007, and is
the 10th-ranked small forward.

I Have a Real Bad Feeling since Duke's Scout.com site....(www.thedevi...) is
reported that he is indeed a blue devil...just a hunch

Yeah, I'm picking up a bad vibe too. I don't think this kid is coming to
Kansas. Its just one of those feelings.

Scout.com announced that Singler will commit to Duke tomorrow. Go
figure. I think KU has a very good shot to land James Anderson though.

One thing to keep in mind if Singler does pick Duke, we'll have Julian to
play small forward if Brandon leaves early.

Come on Kyle! KU is the place for you! I'm holding out hope.

shocks- I like where your head's at. One reason Singler is probably going
to Duke, I mean, really, on paper KU doesn't need him immediately. And
the issue of "who's going to go pro and who's not", well that's
speculation, so in Singler's eyes, maybe KU will return every single player
next year and perhaps he wasn't going to get enough PT. Duke does need
him more than KU right now. At any rate, KU is fine. What a year this
could be....

Here is some speculation that isn't true at all... but let's have fun with it.
Giles will be removed from the team so Singler is committing based on
his scholarship being available and Anderson has suddenly canceled his
last two visits because he knows Brandon Rush is going pro. Why else
would Anderson suddenly cancel his last two visits? Because he was
waiting to see what Singler was doing first. KU wasn't going to sign
Anderson and then have Singler "scared away" from signing so this could
make sense.
However, every recruiting website already has Singler committing to
Duke. Maybe he'll have a dream tonight like Darrell Arthur and he'll
choose our color blue??

listen,
any kid who chooses to go play at duke, is like the guy who goes to the
maroon 5 concert. do you really want him on your team? now, if kyle were
to choose KU (which he totally should), then, he would be a whole lot
cooler than christian, bobby, danny, and them.

Self has this team set up so well that even if we don't get every one he
recruits we'll still be national contenders every year. Besides, it seems as
close as this team is, everyone could be back, plus Cole. But then again,
the thought of adding Singler to this group makes me drool. He's
everything we had hoped out of Micah and more. Come on Kyle, feel the
love.

Who's to say this Singler kid wouldn't be another Micah Downs, whining
about playing time! James Anderson might be more blue collar and fit in
better with the players we have.

concerning james anderson, the 6'6" forward from Junction City, Arkansas... i was at the state 2A basketball tournament last year where anderson and his all-black Junction City Dragons got beat 64-56 by an all-white team, Buffalo Island Central.

consider this... james anderson is being recruited by the most high-profile Division I schools out there: Kansas, Florida, Kentucky, etc, and deservedly so. the guy can flat-out play! but he went head-to-head to with 6'4" white guard Brooks Taylor in the state tourney and got flat outplayed!

each player was the only big-time kid for each team, and they guarded each other all night. yet despite out-scoring anderson individually, and his team winning, Brooks Taylor is considered the lesser talent.

anderson is taller, but that's it. Taylor can dunk and do all that kind of stuff, plus he can hit a jumper from about one dribble past half court, and did so several times in their match-up. that's unguardable! but despite averaging close to 30 points a game as a senior, and scoring about 3,000 points in his 3-year high school career, and leading his team to 2 State Championships, and being named all-state and the State Tournament MVP for the second year in a row, Taylor was only offered scholarships by Arkansas State, Buffalo, and South Alabama! how do you explain that?

on the court, Taylor was a jerk, no doubt about it. he didn't play dirty, but he talked a lot of trash and then backed it up. because of this, all the white fans in the state thought he was the anti-Christ! but anderson, who did the same crap, got a free pass... i guess they expect black players to do that...

myself, i think more white kids need Taylor's i'm-here-to-kick-your-ass approach on the court. off the court, the guy was a top-notch student, never committed a crime, nothing. but he's vilified while the countless black kids get heaped with praise. blargh!

by the way, the other team who played in the state championship game was all-white as well, having beat an all-black team in the semis, too.

Interesting comment from Duke Basketball Report:

A lot of people have been ambivalent about Singler, and as so often
happens with talented white players, he'll have to overcome some bias,
since the popular conception is that white players are almost always less
talented than African-American players. However, we read an account
recently where some skeptical members of the basketball world sat
courtside and watched him, and realized pretty quickly that he was pretty
unusual.
