HAMBURG, Germany (AP) â€â€￾ WBC heavyweight champion
Vitali Klitschko has retired because of a knee injury, his former
promoter said on its Web site Wednesday.
Klitschko pulled out of Saturday's title defense against Hasim
Rahman when he tore ligaments while sparring last week in
Los Angeles. He was fitted with a brace, but later canceled the
fight with Rahman scheduled for Nov. 12 in Las Vegas.
"The decision to end with the sport was hard to make. But I
would like to end my career on the top and with my retirement
make the way free for my successor," Klitschko said in a
statement released by Universum Promotions.
The injury will require six months to heal, but the WBC gave
Klitschko three months to recover â€â€￾ after which it would award
the title to Rahman.
The Ukraine-born fighter, who was 35-2 with 34 knockouts,
underwent surgery on his knee Tuesday in Inglewood, Calif.
"Unfortunately, I've been fighting injuries recently more than
facing rivals in the ring," Klitschko said.
Klitschko and Rahman were originally scheduled to fight April
30, but Klitschko pulled out because of a thigh injury.
But WBC president Jose Sulaiman said Monday that the most
recent cancellation actually was the fourth time Klitschko
backed out of a fight with Rahman.
Rahman grew so tired of waiting to fight Klitschko that he took a
bout with Monte Barrett in August. Rahman won on a decision
to become the WBC's interim champion, meaning he would be
declared champion if Klitschko didn't fight him.
Klitschko has not fought since stopping Danny Williams in the
first defense of his title last December.

Okay. People don't care about boxing anymore- especially heavyweight boxing. Most people don't know, and don't care, about Vitali Klitschko. That's fine. I'm not going to argue against that.

But the "he's a quitter" stuff is a little harsh. The guy tore his ACL. No athlete plays on a torn ACL. I agree with Iron, having to postpone yet another fight with Rahman must be very demoralizing. And we don't even know if he'll stay retired or not. This was a snap decision made right after he hurt his knee, and could be reversed. But even if it isn't, I still wouldn't call him a quitter. Because the herd of lemmings out there don't care about boxing when there is a white HW champ doesn't mean we shouldn't care. ESPN and the mass sports media will not decide for me what athlete or what sport I should pay attention to. Most people believe everything they hear on TV. You, for example, said boxing was "on its way down anyway". The exact lines most the sports media have been repeating since Vitali won the championship. This despite that fact that for the first time in history professional boxing involves worldwide competition.
Thanks for your concern, but I'll keep rooting for white boxing champs, white tennis stars, white track stars, white ultimate fighters, white football players, and any white athlete I damn well please regardless of what anyone else thinks, Thank you.

I checked out the posted link. Debating about whether to register and reply abit. Then again, that time would be better spent training.

One thing I would like to see is a cross comparison of educational levels achieved on this "dumb" forum with that of certain OTHER forums. For instance, I am currently working towards my BA in History at the University of Texas. Judging from the ability to actually utilize English displayed on this forum vrs. other forae, I have my suspicions. As for calling castefootball.us "gay", that relates-intelligence&articulate speech=gay to pugnus' people.

I checked out the forums there as well.

Two points come to mind:

1) Outside of once-in-a-while mistaking some troll for the reincarnation of pugnus/godking, he is never mentioned on this site. No one sits around wondering if he is gloating or concerned or anything else for that matter. His fixation with this board and its members is telling.

2) Even a cursory perusal of the messages left on that board leave one with the impression of a bunch of teenagers sitting around the living room playing video games and talking smack. Actually, comparing their one-liner drivel to conversation between teenagers is insulting to teens. There is no back and forth exchange of ideas, point-counter point, nothing. Name calling seems to be the uttermost height they are able to reach in their "communication" with one another.

I was posting on the Klitschiko brother's forum occasionally, but I was turned off by the same type of nonsense there. No discussion, just rants and insults.

I'm surprised that pugnus hasn't tried to revisit us here. He was able to actually engage in relatively intelligent discussions here, unlike on the other board. Even if he lost.

If Vitali had some of that - black charisma - he would have been a household name. He is too bland, too white bread, too vanilla. He is not a rapist, wife beater, thug, crack addict, convicted felon or trash talker. You would think Diane Sawyer, Barbara Walters or 60 minutes would have done an interview with this most unique fighter, who is cast from a different mold than a Mike Tyson. There is still hope for Wlad however.He could take a crash course on gangstaism and get his name introduced to the masses.

There are several other boards where some of the posters are fixated on us. I thinkthey're quite interested in what we're saying and put up a front of hostility and ridicule as a pretext to regularly check us out and have others do so too.
