The 6-10 Oregon big man might be the best high school junior in the
country. Just led his Southern Californa team to the title of the loaded
Kingswood Classic in Houston (over a team from Gary, Ind. in the final led
by a white star).

From Rivals article:

(Brandon) Jennings is a jet with the ball and he was wowing the crowd
with his quick cross-over dribble to free himself from his defender and
getting to the lane and dishing off to the numerous high-major prospects
around him. Jennings said he is just feeding off the energy of Love.

"Playing with Kevin is a whole lot of fun," Jennings said. "He just makes it
fun. Do you see the things he is doing out there? Oh my god, he's good."

I bet he ends up at UCLA. His family and Coach K had a falling out over
Kevin not wanting to play for a Nike team anymore. That's for the best,
given Duke's track record of ruining 6-10 white prep stars.

Luckily, Love will not be going to Duke (from OregonLive.com):

he Oregon high school basketball season ended nearly two months ago,
but the offseason is just starting to intensify for two of the most sought-
after recruits in Oregon history.

Kevin Love and Kyle Singler, who arein the midst of the AAU basketball
season, are entering the recruiting stretch run, and colleges are jockeying
to land commitments from the two elite prospects.

Love, a 6-foot-10 senior-to-be at Lake Oswego, trimmed his list of
potential colleges to two last week by removing national power Duke
from what had been a three-team race that also included North Carolina
and UCLA. Love says the Blue Devils' recruitment of him seemed to cool
recently, so he thought it was time to establish a final two.

"(Duke) hadn't been calling me and showing as much interest, so I just
decided that if they weren't going to put the time in, I wasn't going to
worry about it," Love said Sunday.

Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski didn't help the Blue Devils' chances when he
stopped in Medford on April 19 to visit Singler and failed to make a trip
north to see Love.

"I really didn't understand why Coach K would come all the way across the
country and not stop by," Love said. "I mean, I understand why he would
visit Kyle; he's a consensus top-five player in the country in our class. But
I was surprised he didn't stop by while he was in the area."

Krzyzewski's visit was the first of many the past few days for Singler, a 6
-8 senior-to-be at South Medford, who still has several schools on his list
of finalists. During a four-day stretch last week, Arizona coach Lute
Olson, UCLA coach Ben Howland, Washington coach Lorenzo Romar and
Kansas coach Bill Self made stops in Medford.

The amplified attention came after Singler and Love excelled in two
prominent April AAU tournaments in Las Vegas (Easter Classic) and
Houston (Kingwood Classic). Love, who is playing for the SoCal All-Stars
during the AAU season, led his loaded team to the championship in both
tournaments. He was named most valuable player of the Las Vegas Easter
Classic and scored 21 points in the Kingwood Classic championship
game.

Love and Singler, who is playing for the Portland Legends, each drew
glowing reviews from internet recruiting analysts after the tournaments,
only furthering the hype surrounding the duo.

At his essence, Kevin Love is nothing but another lumbering overachiever:

He doesn't project as a dominant NBA player. Some might even label his chances of making a major impact as average.

He doesn't run all that well and doesn't make you forget Michael Jordan when he elevates. Doesn't make you forget Michael Jackson, for that matter.

His knees and back are already a bit creaky at age 19. He more lumbers than sprints up and down a court.

. . .He might be 6 feet 9 inches in shoes, but his listed weight of 270 pounds seems close to valid. He is a likely NBA lottery pick if he departs school after this season, and yet you won't find many general managers salivating over his pro potential.

He just doesn't project as dominant, but more an effective player who (health willing) could have a very nice career and make a lot of money.

But put him around other college players, and time suddenly slips back to another era. Imposing. Unforgettable. What the game misses.

Kevin love is the best player on his team by far and will be a really good NBA player. I hope he stays in school, however if he leaves he will be very rich, and and very good NBA player. He reminds me of Kevin Mchale. This kid can do it all. Edited by: White Power

Hoping Love and UCLA bring it home to SoCal. He is a pretty good player with no fear of being the go to guy.

He's not that much like McHale, who had a gigantic wingspan and was a
dominant NBA defender -- like, all-time great defender -- thanks to that
length.

They should nickname him token.

The token that buys UCLA a ride to the championship.

You see what I did there?

I did a little thing with the whole "token white guy" stereotype, then...

Nevermind.

UCLA got beat by Memphis in the worst circumstances. UCLA's point guard Collison is decent but I feel a bit overrated. But the one thing he does is he gives Love the ball. Today Collison was in foul trouble and was outplayed by Memphis' point guard Derrick Rose. Because of this Love didn't get any looks and had to constantly play the entire court. UCLA's backup guard selfishly kept driving and miss 3 point shots. He treated Love as an afterthought in the offense. UCLA didn't shoot well but Love would have given them better looks. The announcers kept saying that Love looked tired. I would be too if I have to constantly run down floor off of bad shot selections by my guards

. But the worse part was that Memphis player Chris Douglas-Roberts dunk on Love. It is already going across the internet. But the reason WHY that even happened is because of UCLA's Josh Shipp letting CDR go backdoor and leaving Love (who was guarding someone else) back there. All because Love was doing his job and that idiot Shipp lets CDR go through the backdoor (and Shipp doesn't even chase him), now it is going to be a picture that I have to see for a while all over the place
smiley11.gif
. And to top THAT off after the dunk that punk Memphis forward Joey Dorsey goes over to Kevin Love, points to him and laughs

Asa kid, I was a Memphis fan, and more specifically an Elliot Perry fan. His goggles, long socks, demeanor, and relatively short stature made him easy to like. That was a lifetime ago, and the Memphis team now is mostly detestable. I have never been a Calipari fan, and to most honest Memphis fans, he has been a disappointment as coach. He talks like so many trial lawyers in explaining why they didn't reach their goals for the first 5-6 years of his tenure in The Bluff City.

Listening to the Memphis team fans on internet radio is sickening. People are talking about regularly praying for their team. How ridiculous is that? These players have very little in common with white Memphians. I detest "team fans" more and more each day. It is another aspect of the blindersthat areon most people when it comes to race and sports.

I think he needed 1 more year of the College game.

Pardon me saying this, but I think its a little bit "wiggerish" (for Whites) to leave after only 1 year.

Because the NBA might screw you, why not, at least, "play" 2 or 3 years of College ball.

At this point, I would say a guy like Ohio State's Kosta Koufos is more "polished" than Kevin Love. No doubt Kevin Love is projected as a Power Forward on the next level.

Whites can do so much against the Caste System on the College level, so this is a shame just like McRoberts last year. I hope "Psycho-T" comes back.

Watching Memphis I almost thought they were a traditionally black college...

I mused out loud that it was very liberal for a traditionally black college to hire a Yankee coach and his all white coaching staff...

Then I saw who was coaching the staff and brought back visions of U Mass and the Camby scandal and I thought about Jail house Rock and Suspicious Minds.....

I agree right now he is a man among boys but his game could use polishing. Plus he might not be able to do what he does at the collegiate level at the NBA level. Physically he reminds me of Wes Unseld and has a similar height but in the Unseld, Cowans era 6'10" centers were quite common. Now they are rarities. The last one I can recall was the old Raptor Oliver Miller and let's hope Love doesn't go down the Jenny Craig route like old Ollie did.......

Love should stay at least another year. He hardly got the ball in the 2nd half against Memphis. Mbah a Moute and Aboya were taking all the shots. That's not a good sign when you have Africans taking jumpshots
