The Cowboys need to start grooming a successor to Tony Romo -- who may now be in sharp decline due to the several serious injuries he's sustained in recent years -- and it may be Johnny Football. They don't have anyone now so Dallas might be a very good landing spot for him, maybe the only one left given the biases against White running QBs and Manziel's own self-inflicted wounds:

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Cowboys could have interest in Johnny Manziel if the quarterback became available this offseason. Owner Jerry Jones talked about the decision to pass on Manziel while discussing the Cowboys' backup quarterback woes on a radio program this week. Jones wanted to draft Manziel at the time, but he was overruled by other people in the draft room. If Manziel becomes available for free or somewhere close to it this offseason, it would not be surprising if Jerry made the move. Manziel will back up Austin Davis this week with Josh McCown done for the year.

Completely agree Don. Dallas would be a fresh start and a more talented organization than Cleveland. Manziel would at least have talented receiver in Dez. He couldnt count on Josh Gordon.

Being that this would be the ideal landing spot for Manziel, I doubt that it would be allowed to happen. Being a dynamic playmakuh is only for the bruvas. Can you imagine Manziel with a decent o-line (when they are healthy) better receivers and better coaching/playcalling? The league might explode.

Dallas seems like the logical landing spot for Manziel. The lack of any sort of contingency
plan at the position for Dallas has really killed them this season.

Pettines treatment of the qb situation has been downright pathetic.

I recall Skip Bayless calling for the Cowboys to draft Johnny Manziel on the grounds he was ideal for Dallas.

I think it's possible if his agent threatens the Browns to trade him or he will no show camp etc next year. I know Manziel hasn't done enough to demand anything, but if his agent demands a fresh start the Browns might be inclined to trade him if he no longer wants to be a Brown. It's happened before.

Manziel has been completely mishandled and screwed over by the atrocious Browns. If the Browns didn't want him, they shouldn't have wasted a 1st round pick. If they want to trade him, they should have showcased him these final 6 games. It's obviously personal with Pettine, and I hope he continues his epic failure as a coach.

I'm far from a knee-jerk Manziel defender. A lot of White QBs have been wrongfully labeled wiggers here, but in the case of Manziel it seems to fit. Regardless, I still want to see him succeed and Pettine has been in over his head as the team's coach. From Weenieworld:

Browns coach Mike Pettine admitted there is discord within the organization. In related news, water is wet. Pettine said the "tension" stems from losing, but made it clear there are competing agendas from different factions within the organization. "I think we all want what's best for the Cleveland Browns," Pettine said. "We all have ideas on how to get it done, and we need to be collaborative and we need to make sure that we're picking the best ideas and pushing those agendas moving forward." The good news for Pettine is he should be given his exit ticket from the house of dysfunction shortly after the season ends.

I can honestly say I am a huge Manziel supporter, yet loathe his wigger image he has come to display. I think over time he will grow out of it. He has already shown growth on the field leaps and bounds from last year. I don't think Pettine particularly likes him and found any way to jettison him from the 1st team, but now that McCown got hurt again Pettine is stuck considering he didn't get enough from Austin Davis. I am glad the owner is behind Manziel and might end up choosing Manziel over Pettine. It's possible Manziel could survive in Cleveland afterall with an offensive minded head coach.

I saw an interesting article while web surfing at the airport waiting for my flight. I'll just cut and paste the relevant portion.

Even as Teddy Bridgewater has flatlined somewhat with his recent performance, the Minnesota Vikings feel secure they have their quarterback; they have no regrets at this stage. However, let us remember that before the Vikings traded back into the first round of the 2014 NFL draft, they first attempted to trade up to get Johnny Manziel. They failed to get a deal done, and the Cleveland Browns got their man. And there were a couple of other teams intrigued by Manziel, such as the St. Louis Rams and the Dallas Cowboys.

So while Manziel returns to the field Sunday as the Browns' starting quarterback, it is fair to speculate that he's auditioning not just for Cleveland but also for the Cowboys or another team in 2016.
One prominent team executive believes Manziel probably can't do enough on the field "under the reality that he's just not playing with a very good cast around him" to make a convincing case that he is indeed the quarterback of the future for the Browns. "He would almost have to be spectacular and the Browns win games we don't expect them to win. And even then, to what extent has [Manziel] burned bridges there where no matter what he does, either the present regime or the next regime will still be looking for another guy?" the executive pondered, speaking on the condition of anonymity.
The Browns, at this rate, will be in position to take one of the projected top quarterbacks in the 2016 draft, whether it's Connor Cook (Michigan State), Jared Goff (Cal), Christian Hackenberg (Penn State) or Paxton Lynch (Memphis). Ironically the Cowboys also figure to be in a top-10 position to draft a quarterback who can be groomed as a successor to Tony Romo. Only it's unlikely Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones is going to spend a top-10 pick on a quarterback if he's staring at a number of nonquarterback players who can help push Dallas to that Super Bowl level.
The same team executive said the Browns can probably eventually entice Jones to offer a conditional fourth-round draft pick for Manziel, even with the knowledge that the former Texas A&M quarterback was the top-rated player on the Cowboys' board in 2014. Jones also showed everyone he was thinking team ahead of heart when he relented to select Notre Dame guard Zack Martin, who made the Pro Bowl as a rookie.
The Cowboys' failures this year with backup quarterbacks Brandon Weeden and Matt Cassel have only helped the case for Manziel as a candidate to become Romo's backup and possible successor. Sometimes the obvious is just that -- obvious.

Thanks for sharing that article Footballdad. Manziel either needs to get out of Cleveland or the Browns need to fire Pettine. There is no way it seems tht
those two can coexist. Personally I kind of want Manziel to end up in Dallas and learn under Romo.

Wouldn't that be something? Of course, the Browns defense would have to step up again. What would Johnny's critics say if he pulled this off? It would be nice to send them back to their holes.

If the Browns kept Manziel at QB and also drafted Bosa, plus kept Barnidge, Hartline, the all White OL, and Kruger, they would be in New England and Philadelphia territory.

I think the gameplan is clear. Spread out of shotgun with quick passes and use pass to set up run. Theoritcally its easy, but they need to execute. Seahawks D is #1 vs run. As long JM can limit his mistakes they have a chance. Nothing I would love more to see on Sunday is to see all the black quarterbacks all go down with a loss.

I read an article that projected Manziel as the next Russell Wilson Idk if thats a good or bad thing any thoughts?

Obviously a good thing the way Wilson has been playing as of late.

According to reports, the Brown required players on concussion protocol to be seen by a doctor Sunday morning. Johnny was no where to be seen except in Vegas. If true, he is obviously done in CEL. His only salvation maybe Jerry Jones. Really not understanding his professional decisions.

I read that was a lie. Manziel sent an instagram of him home with his dog. I highly doubt he would go to Vegas until after the season.

It appears he was indeed in Vegas Sat night, wearing a disguise. That's probably why he missed the mandatory Sunday meeting with team doctors.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ing-inebriated-Cleveland-Browns-practice.html

He also apparently came to practice Wed "disheveled", could be due to the concussion or maybe he was hung over from another night out.

In any event, I'm done defending this fool. He's an embarrassment and really is his own worst enemy. There are a ton of young white QBs about to enter the league next year, not to mention guys like Luck, Bortles, Cousins, Carr, and even up-and-comers like Osweiler and McCarron we can root for in the coming years in terms of fresh blood at the position.

It's OK, just like we get an occasional good black quarterback like Wilson or Newton, a knucklehead or two like Manziel or Leaf also come thru the ranks.

I'm not convinced. Any "reporter" with an axe to grind can make up anything they want about a player they hate (and Manziel is hated more than any other). Considering that everyone in the US carries a phone with a camera, and not ONE picture of Manziel in Vegas with his "blonde wig and mustache"? And anonymous "reports" about him being "disheveled" on Wednesday that haven't been backed up by anybody on the team or even by a named journalist. Manziel has done a poor job in recognizing the target on his back, but the latest hits against him have a strong aroma of BS.

FD I concur. This is just the media trying to go for the nail in the coffin so to speak. I think Manziel did not respect Pettine, which is really no excuse for his behavior. He still has some growing to do, but now I think there is a chance the new HC will try him out before vanishing him from Cleveland.

Johnny continues to be his own worst enemy:

Johnny Manziel was questioned by Fort Worth Police after an alleged altercation with his girlfriend. Manziel was not arrested, and the Browns declined to comment. Fort Worth Police corporal Tracey Knight said a full report on the incident should be released Saturday. This situation will certainly not help warm new Browns coach Hue Jackson to the idea of keeping Manziel around. Johnny has likely played his last snap in Cleveland.

Sounds like Manziel is done in Cleveland. Pretty disappointed in his actions off the field - I still think Dallas may sign him though.
