The NHL is losing another all-time great in Joe Sakic -- great player, great captain, all-around good guy and role model, leader of two Stanley Cup winning teams.

The son of Croatian immigrants, Joe played 20 NHL seasons. Here's areport on his retirement from the Denver Post: http://www.denverpost.com/avalanche/ci_12798054?source=rss

Joe was one of the great ones. Too bad he didn't have a room brigtening smile or the media would have paid more attention to him.

One of the finest players of all-time; he alone could induce me to pull for the Avalanche.

Sakic is a man of class and dignity; his retirement is a major event in the history of hockey and should have been treated thus. No surprise that it was not.
