Today is Joe Calzaghe's 36th birthday.

His upcoming fight with Bernard Hopkins is the biggest "caste" fight in the next few months, because:

1. Both are ranked in the top 5 p4p
2. Both are considered champions of their divisions - Joe is the universally recognized super middleweight champion, while Ring Magazine sees Hopkins as the light heavyweight champion
3. Hopkins is considered an all-time great, Calzaghe really is an all-time great although many sportswriters, blacks and wiggers refuse to recognize him as such
4. Hopkins has said he will "never lose to a white boy"
5. Joe Calzaghe is undefeated - it would be good to see him retires that way, like Rocky Marciano
6. If Calzaghe loses to the old ex-convict, then some will say Joe was never really any good - he HAS to win this fight

GO CALZAGHE!!!

After suffering through this month, it is up to Joe to stop the bleeding in April. It will be a tough fight. Joe will have to fight smart and not get cuaght like Hatton and Katidisis.

If he has more energy than say Winky Wright who almost beat Hopkins last year, he should win a tactical fight without any major problems. I am counting on Joe to turn this tide against our fighters.

Enzo Calzaghe will go mad if Joe loses this one. I mean Macca and Rees have both lost their titles in the space of a month!. Nathan Cleverly is coming through nicely though, a boxer who is apparently following the footsteps of Joe Calzaghe.

Joe will have to fight a perfect fight. If Hopkins manages to hurt him even once I believe that the ref will stop the fight . Just like they did to Andy Lee.

I heard Cortez is the referee for this fight as well. Let's see if he allows in fighting for Hopkins.Edited by: shawn1262231

If Calzaghe wins, the media will do one or maybe both of these two things:

1 - they'll dismiss the victory as insignificant, and say things like "well, if this fight took place in 1999, etc. etc..."

2- they'll imply that Calzaghe isn't white

If Calzaghe loses, the media will use it as another example of supposed black ring dominance.

No matter what happens, the media will do everything to ensure that Calzaghe doesn't become a household name, unless it's a household name for wussy white guys with the gall to think they can beat caste gods.

Calzaghe already is a household name although not in this country. Pavlik has been getting positive media attention lately though.

Surprised I have not seen this fight hyped a bit more by the mainstream media and HBO. When Mayweather fought Hatton, HBO had a countdown show and even the newspapers put out a story or two a week on the fight.

Anyway, I am hopeful that Calzaghe can avoid getting tagged by Hopkins (Hopkins is a naturally bigger fighter) and does not injure his hands. Other than that, I cannot see how Hopkins will be able to match Calzaghe's punch output to win a decision.

Mayweather is a bigger star than Hopkins. He also was favored to beat Hatton, while Hopkins will most likely lose. So, perhaps this fight is not worth the hype of the Mayweather/Hatton because of the inevitable outcome. They have plenty of billboards advertising it here in good old NYC though.Edited by: Alpha Male

The biggest threat to Calzaghe is him getting screwed by the judges. He should win an easy UD but you never know with the judges these days.

I agree. It all depends on who the judges are, though. Those who worked the Mayweather vs. Castillo I, Meehan vs. Brewster, and De La Hoya vs. Sturm could turn a clear win for Joe into a defeat.

He has to be careful of a cut from a sneaky headbutt that old Cortez doesn't see, so he declares it to be caused by a punch. Hopkins is dishonest to have something in his gloves too, after all, he went to prison for armed robbery.

This is a caste fight that MUST be won...I'm kinda worried about it, so I'll be glad when it's over. C'mon Joe, show the racist ex-convict that a "white boy" can fight!

No since this fight will be fought at 175. What is interesting is will he be stripped of his titles if he wins on Saturday and accepts the Ring 175 belt. Kessler is already lined up to fight Mundine for the WBA belt and the WBC must have some guys lined up too. I think the WBO will hold out the longest as Joe basically made that belt.

I think he is favored. I am already getting hyped for this fight. Saturday I will have to have several beers to settle myself down. I just hope that Joe will use his speed and intelligence and just win. I hope to God this fight doesn't end "Hatton Style" getting clipped by a left hook. I recently saw a photo of Hatton. He is on a downward track, he was bloated probably around 175 lbs.

Anyway, if Joe fights intelligently he should win. I don't think he has a history of stamina problems so it looks good. Hopkins, although a rotten person is very cagey. Another member stated that this is a caste match up, whatever that means. To me its just two fighters, one black, one white, one bad and one good. I pray the good guy wins and sends a message to the blacks and self loathing whites to stop believing the myths and brainwashing you have had.

Just a reminder to whet everyone`s appetite for Joe`s upcoming demolition of the racist, Bernard Hopkins:

"I will never let a white boy beat me. Never."

No more talking, Hopkins. Time to take your beating. Time to eat your words.

Pavlik`s two wins over Jermain Taylor were great, but we must have this win by Joe over Bernard Hopkins.

And I`m confident we will get it. I can`t wait for the weekend.

He always gains a lot of weight between fights. Same old Ricky.

From what I have seen online Joe is a solid -250 favorite to beat Nard. It's probably worse at British or Euro based books. If you like Joe bet him at Bodog or other American friendly books. Reverse if you back Old Man River.

Hmm. Funny Joe is a favorite. wasnt Lacy the favorite over Joe in their fight? I can remember people saying that Calzaghe will ruin his career by fighting Lacy because Lacy will destroy him.

The Lacy fight was a near pickem. If Lacy was a favorite he was moderatel one. I suspect Joe was a favorite on British betting sites. I myself was confused by the betting odds and thought maybe Joe was past his best because I hadn't seen a Calzaghe fight since his win over Eubank...

If Joe wins, will he keep his Super Middleweight Ring title?Edited by: Amren.com
