Wow what great news to start off the day. Now Matt Jones can finally show everybody what a great athlete he is and perhaps pass Drew Bennett as the best QB turned WR.

This is great news for Jones. I'm sure in the days to come we'll be hearing about how Ernest Wilford is a potential great and how Reggie Williams, he of the terrible attitude and legs of concrete, is in the best shape of his life and tearing up training camp, but this really does open up a starting job for Matt. Being a first round draft pick will make it very difficult for the Jaguars to make up an excuse for denying him his rightful opportunity.

If the Jags had any sense they would see that Williams is a bust. Matt Jones outperformed him in his rookie year as a qb making the transistion to wr and he hasn't played the position since HS. Wilford is very slow for a WR but big...he should be more of a slot guy IMO. Jones is a big target that can stretch the field. I really hope he starts.

Let's hope Leftwich is good enough to get the ball to Jones. He doesn't throw many picks but he doesn't throw many touchdowns either. 14, 15 and 15 in three years as a starter and he's yet to throw for 3,000 yeards. Considering Leftwich is an immobile pocket passer he still has a lot to prove.

If Matt Jones starts the Jaguars will not miss a beat with the reirement of Jimmy Smith. I hate to see Jimmy retire in a way because he was a decent black athlete who acted decent. You haven't been able to say that of any as of late.

GO MATT JONES, GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Matt Jones will make the hi-lite reel every week if they start this kid.He is simply that good. His abilities are similar to R.Moss but he has his head on straight.Jones is dedicated to becoming a pro bowl receiver. He will help the Jags get to the playoffs year after year. This just made my day assuming the Jags are smart enough to start him.

As of today, anyway, Matt Jones has taken Jimmy Smith's spot as the Jags' number one receiver:

Jones opened practice Friday as the "X" receiver, the spot Smith filled the last 11 years in Jacksonville. The 6-foot-6, soft-spoken, laid-back, self-proclaimed country boy caught 36 passes for 432 yards and five touchdowns last season.

I'm just now learning of this and am very excited. I'll have to tell my Dad about this, as Matt is one of his favorite players to watch.

Despite Jones' great hands and incredible size and speed combination anda first year that was as good as or better than any other rookie receiver, Caste System writer Jeremy Green

of ESPN Insider has already passed judgment on him in an article about the loss of Jimmy Smith and how it will affect Jax:

Smith's departure is a huge blow to their receiving corps. Sure, they have some young guys, but this group is developing extremely slowly and there is not a future No. 1 in the bunch.

Matt had a great rookie season considering it was at a position he hadn't played at since high school. 36 catches and 5 TDs show a lot of potential to me and I'm sure Matt has only gotten way better than he was at this same time last year.
