I thought it was about time for Jeff to have his own thread. He is pretty much unstoppable.Stovall may get talked about more but only averages 80+ yards a game.Jeff is now 11th in the nation with 107 yards per game.At 6'5,220lbs,he is a big target that knows how to run with the football.I would love to see him crack the top 5 in the nation by the seasons end.The best news is that he has a stud quarterback in Brady Quinn throwing him the ball.Tbey are both juniors and should both be possible Heisman Hopefuls for next year.Notre Dame should be ranked in the top 5 next season to start the year. What a combonation these guys make.

Jeff is the man. Hopefully he'll win the Bilitnikoff award next year as he'll have a lot of preseason hype and everybody will know about him.

He obviously could have started earlier, but we take our victories agasinst the Caste System where we find them. He is unbelievably talented. Hands of glue, peerless hand-eye coordination, great height and route running ability, he has it all.

This may be an exaggeration, but I believe Samardzija is one of the most athletic players in college football. He certainly plays that way- runs precise routes, outstanding coordination and body control, and hands of glue. Samardzija, rather than just catching the ball, makes catches.

According to many folks, he is even better at baseball. He's a
legitimate two-sport star. Ain't it funny how this guy wasn't
"highly rated" by the college football recruiting gurus (Borderwars, Insiders, Jocksniffers, etc.</span>)?

In the NFL, he'll be treated like Finneran -- even though he's an
athletic freak with great hands, he'll be used as a third-down
possession receiver, running 15-yard outs for first downs.

I personally think he is like a faster Keyshawn Johnson with better hands.

Jeff got shelled on Saturday in an 8-0 loss to Minnesota.
I am rooting against him in baseball. We need him to focus on football.

Notre Dame pitcher Jeff Samardzija gave up six hits and five runs in four inning to take his first loss of the season to fall to 1-1.

You are right KJV1...We have plenty of white pitchers and not enough white wr's. I think he has a good idea now about how he is going to make his millions. It's not in baseball.

How do you know this, he is a solid pro baseball prospect. One game doesnt tell you anything about his future.

What makes you think that I base my opinion on only one bad game? I read articles online and in the newspaper last year that talked about how Samardzija was more of a finesse pitcher than a power pitcher. He has a hard time keeping his pitches in the 90 mph range. When you are that tall but not a power pitcher..that doesn't bode well for a major league career. I also think that despite the discrimination against the white wr's, that he as a star from Notre Dame "america's college" will have much more of a chance to make it in the NFL than the average white college star at that position. Baseball is much more of a crapshoot for him than football will be. Maybe he's a big Greg Maddoux..maybe not.

This article ranks Samardzija as the #2 WR in college football for the '06 season. Todd Blythe (who will be a junior) is 6th. The top TEs mentioned are white -- Greg Olsen (Miami), Zach Miller (Arizona State), Matt Spaeth (Minnesota), and Jonny Harline (BYU).

I know Don its actually shocking to read an article that gives respect to white WRs and TEs. Though they just had to say Samardijiza doesn't have great speed they just couldn't leave that one out. Although I'm sure if Samardijiza was black he would without a doubt be ahead of Calvin Johnson(as he deserves to be). Also they forgot to mention the CB that shut Johnson down aganist Utah which would be Eric Weddle. Though I guess its against the rules of the "game" to say a white CB shut down a star black WR.

Yeah, Samardijza and Blythe should be 1-2, and there are other white receivers who should be on there as well. It's interesting that at TE and LB, whites can be ranked at the top when they're deserving, but any position at which "speed" is supposed to play a prominent part, whites are always degraded no matter how outstanding they are. It's so over the top, but unfortunately white Americans have been very well trained to think in certain ways.

Saying Samardijza doesn't have speed is like saying there is no such thing as gravity. What a crock of s***!
I hope he leads the nation in receiving. With Quinn throwing to him,it is very possible! [IMG]

Not sure if it is still up, but ESPN.com had Mel Kiper rate the top 10 college players for the upcoming year. It was a video, Brady Quinn was number 1 and I'm fairly certain Jeff Samardzija was in the top 5. I know I'm going to be a big ND fan next year[IMG]

Todd McShay of ESPN Insider has Samardjiza ranked 12th among the top 12 seniors, but note the obligatory racial stereotyping in his summary:

Not heavily recruited out of high school, Samardzija has used his size, quickness, instincts, hands and toughness to overcome a lack of elite speed. Samardzija's draft stock is likely to slip once some of the supremely talented junior skills players get thrown into the mix, but another productive year like 2005 (77 catches, 1,249 yards, 15 TDs) could secure him a spot in the first round of next year's draft.

Gee, I wonder why Jeff wasn't "heavily recruited out of high school." And you can bet when he refers to the "supremely talented junior skills players" he isn't including Todd Blythe among them, even though Blythe may be better than Samardjiza and every other WR in the country. "Supremely talented" means blacks who are far less productive and who often have attitude problems, but being black are automatically "supremely talented."

Kiper ranks Sarmardjiza 7th on his "initial 2007 Big Board." Both Kiper and McShay have Brady Quinn at the number one spot and both have Paul Posluszny in the top five.

What is this whole "lack of elite speed"? I guess if your white you can't have "home run speed" or be "heavily recruited out of high school". Oh wait I forgot weren't those some black DBs Samardjiza was burning against Stanford on those long ass TD receptions and Jeff was waving his fingers for the DBs to catch up. Oh what a classic play that was. That gesture earned Jeff some mad props and respect from me.

yea...lack of elite speed my ass...he caught so many dump offs, wr screens and short passes and just took off gaining alot after the catch...he is very fast.

The caste sports media is afraid of a confident white player who is not afraid to make black players look stupid and bad.

A 95 mph fastball, speed, hands, height, and hair; he has it all. Maybe he should go pro in both sports. It wouldn't be as hard as doing it in college. There would be no classes. He's also a pitcher as opposed to an everyday player. Remember all that publicity that Bo Jackson and Deion Sanders received? I would like to see one of our own display that kind of athleticism and receive comparable attention..

Regardless of what he decides,I will root for Jeff as he is my favorite receiver in college now that Hass and Anderson have moved on to the NFL.I am so happy that we have a legitimate superstar receiver on a Top Five Team that is on tv every week.It doesn't get any better than that!! JS is 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA early on in his career with the minor league Boise Hawks. Part of me wants him to be successful in baseball, but imo he's more important as a potential superstar NFL receiver than as a baseball player or even two-sport star. I'd like to see him concentrate solely on the football end of it.

I was on a nfl draft site and they were talking about player comparisons and everyone compares Jeff to either Proel, Bennet or Jurevicious which is ok by me because they are all talented and if they got a fair shot they would be putting up great numbers but look what one idiot caste follower says:

"I like the jeravicious comparison better but he is a bit like both of them. Their is nothing wrong with saying they are the same because their both white. White receivers that make the NFL are usually big and fast and have no hip fluidity, Jeravicious and Samarji are very similar."
