JGNYC brought this kid up in another thread so I created one just for Jared. I have never heard of this kid before, but he won the 100m and 200m in the Canada Summer Games last year. He is definitely someone we need to keep an eye on.

Hey SteveB,
I read an article a few years ago about this really quick "skinny white guy"
from the Panhandle called Delt *******rill (I think).
Any news on him recently

I am not familiar with him. I assume you meant that he is from the Panhandle of Texas? The fastest white kid I ever saw from that part of Texas was Dallas Cowan from Odessa. He was one of the top 3 sprinters in Texas in the late 1980's. He ran around 10.4 in the 100m in high school. Went on to TCU to anchor their 4x100m relay which was one of the top relay teams in the NCAA. I think he is coaching track somewhere in West Texas now.

Jarrod won the Houston Invitational 60m in 6.70 this past weekend.
It will be interesting to see what 100m times he puts up this year.

Thanks for the update JGNYC.That is a very good time for a college kid.I will have to keep a close eye on him.I would predict that a 6.70 time in the 60 would probably put him in the 10.25-10.35 range but that is only a guess. It all depends on his speed endurance.

Trey Griffin of Texas is right there with Jarrod...he has run a 6.71 60m this season.

Dang, I thought that Trey gave up track. He was awesome in high school, ran a 10.32 100m. Then he went to SMU on a football scholarship and sat the bench for 4 years. Way to go Trey!

Trey ran a 6.64 60m at the Tyson Invitational this weekend.
That puts him in some pretty fast company - top 5 collegiate.

Way to go Trey.I guess his story is kind of similar to Dusty Stamer in that he wanted to play football also but ended up staying in track later on.How old is he?I'm guessing around 22/23.This kid has really good potential. There are only a few pro sprinters this year that have run faster thus far.6.64 is a blazing time.I hope he can keep this up.

Trey has to be around 23 as this is his 5th year of college eligibility. I hope he can stay in the sport after this last season at Texas.

The time he ran in the 60 was the 2nd fastest in Texas History! He is in some pretty elite company. This kid is built like a sprinter.I hope he can continue to compete in the sprints after college too.Maybe the USATF will give this kid a chance.I wouldn't hold my breath though. They barely gave Tom Green a chance a few years ago and he is faster than Trey.I hope I'm wrong.I would like to see Trey get into the 6.5 range in the 60 and the 10.2 range in the 100 by seasons end.Good luck to him!

Jared just ran a 6.68 in the semis of the Southland Conference Championships. A meet record I believe, and makes him the 10th fastest collegiate this year.
Hopefully, he'll improve in the finals.

Jared went into the finals as the fastest qualifier (6.68)from the semis by nearly a second.
However, he ran a second-and-a-half slower(!) in the finals, 6.85, and finished 2nd.
Don't know what happened, but regardless, he, Trey Griffin of Texas, and Aaron Buzard of Minnesota are the break-out sprint stars of the 2006 season.
Hopefully, their break-throughs will continue to the outdoor season.

From what I heard,he stumbled very badly out of the blocks but still came back to finish 2nd!Jared also went on to win the 200 meters with ease.He will be a force to be reckoned with.I also am anxious to see how Trey Griffin will do at the Championships next weekend!

Jared ran a 20.59 to win the 200m at the Bobby Lane Arlington Invitational today.
Texas Relays are next week...hopefully this is a sign of more fast times to come for him.

That is a very good time for April.I like this kids confidence. He posts as himself over at Trackshark.com in the forums for college track. He has the talent and confidence needed to be a very good sprinter. The question as always is will he be able to take it to that next level.I sure hope so.Congrats on a solid time and a good race Jared.Keep up the hard training & the times will come!

Jared is going to attempt to run the 100,200,and 4 x 100 relays at the Drake Relays.I don't know how he will do it because there is virtually no time to rest between the relay and the 200 meters. If he's smart,he will just run the two individual events. This kid is probably just as good as Trey Griffin but Connaughton is only a junior.I can see him possibly getting close to 10 seconds flat within another year or two.Good luck to him this weekend.
