SPARTANBURG, S.C. â€" The Jacksonville Jaguars announced on Wednesday
that they have signed Wofford wide receiver Andy Strickland. Strickland
led the Terriers in receiving each of the last three seasons and earned
second-team All-Conference honors in 2008.

Last season Strickland, a native of Gaffney, S.C., started all twelve
games for Wofford and led the team with 656 receiving yards and seven
touchdowns. He added 13 carries for 217 yards and two touchdowns and
also had nine punt returns for 95 yards. The 656 receiving yards were
the most by a Terrier since the 1984 season, while the seven touchdowns
were the most by a receiver since the 1973 season.

In his career, he had 84 catches for 1544 yards and 15 touchdowns. He
is fifth all-time in receiving yards, seventh in career receptions and
third in career receiving touchdowns. He was also named to the Southern
Conference Academic Honor Roll three times.

Strickland is the first Terrier to sign with an NFL team since Jimmy
Miner signed with the St. Louis Rams in 2004. The Jaguars will conclude
their Organized Team Activities (OTAs) on Thursday with a final
practice session scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Training camp begins in late
July.

Andy might get screwed by Jacksonville, and he might not. I guess time will tell. Kind of strange since they got rid of Matt Jones.

I think the Jags are heading in a positive direction. The new GM seems to want character type players and purged the roster of a great deal of guys with negative attitudes, questionable work ethics and questionable character. Unfortunately I think Matt Jones got released to prove a point that the gm "just isnt going after black guys who have questionable characters" What Jones did was stupid but it was a victimless crime and he did nothing but show that he wanted to contribute to the team afterwards by having a breakout season. He turned things around positively but I think it was in the cards for him to be released regardless if he drank a beer on a golf course and violated his probation or not

Strickland still isn't listed on Jacksonville's official site, but that didn't stop him from making a couple of nice plays at wideout against Tampa Bay.

he officially had 1 reception for 16 yards in the game. he also had a sweet, leaping20-something-yard catch that didn't count, becausehe was pushed by the defensive back while still in the air and came down out of bounds. still, the announcers were talking about what a nice catch it was.

seeing him make that grab and watching all the negroes dropping balls ... well, it's pretty obvious that "the best players" aren't the ones getting the playing time.
