If the NFL had no caste system, what would the racial makeup of the league be? Would it be similar to the racial makeup of America? Your thoughts?

Well, since I have to be honest...

You'd probably see them represented in speed positions in numbers somewhat higher than their % of population, but not ridiculously so, like it is now.

OTHOH, you'd rarely if ever see a black quarterback, and they'd be less than their % population in the OL.

Sports ARE more important in "black culture" as opposed to "white culture" so the number of blacks would be higher than the population ratio. My WAG would be about 20-25% Black, and about 65-70% White with good (and very entertaining) mix at all positions.

I would tend to agree with that estimate. Sports are more important to blacks, but football (high school, college and NFL) is a religion in a lot of the U.S.

In the late '60s the NFL was a little overtwo-thirds white. That was after the leaguehad beenintegrated for a number of years and before the Caste System began being implemented in full force. With a level playing field and the media no longer purveying Caste System propaganda that's probably close to what it would be again, maybe a higher percentage of whites, closer tofour-fifths,if they were given equal opportunity from Pop Warner on up.

I think if society hadn't of changed in the 60's, you guys may be correct. With that change, the Caste System came with it, so I can't imagine what one would be without the other. I would guess though, that maybe it would be around 60% white, if the culture had still changed like it did, but there was no caste system.

I agree. Whites would be around three-fourths of the NFL players, and that's being generous to our African-American friends. They are being trumped in international basketball and boxing's heavyweight division, if the artificial Caste System in football was exposed and dismantled who knows how far their representation would fall.

My guess would be that a non-Caste System NFL would probably mirror the current NCAA College Football racial makeup. From my understanding Whites make up about 45-50% of College Football rosters (If I am incorrect about this please let me know as I am not totally sure!)

As we see in alot of College teams, Whites can play all the positions like CB and HB and this would be reflected in this hypothetical scenario.

There would be alot more Jason Sehorns and Craig James out there.

The reason why I don't think the White ratio would be higher is that Whites enjoy a vast array of different sports. Hockey, skiing, biking, golf, tennis, gymnastics, swimming, etc... and with so many folks playing all these other sports it reduces the number that play football. Whereas blacks, generally being poorer, don't have the money to buy the expensive equipment some of these sports require and gravitate more towards basketball where all one needs is a ball and a trash can nailed to the fence or football where the team ususally provides equipment.
