How does Compubox work

Is it similar to the system in the Olympics where humans) punch the data in at ringside or is there a technology that can detect punches thrown and landed electronically?

I believe it's just like the Olympics where people record the blows electronically.

That's why compubox numbers can be so screwed-up. They're arbitrary. Begs the question; Why do they call it COMPUbox?

I asked the question because I have seen two fights in which I felt one of the fighters landed more blows than Compubox gave them credit for. The two fights being Hatton -Mayweather and Katsidis- Diaz. Maybe this is why the ring judges are not allowed to have this information when they score the fight.
