Wow no thread for Miller?! I guess he gets a thread the day he announces his retirement!
That's a bit of a shock, thought he'd play at least one more season. Great all-around tight end. Like his predecessor, Mark Bruener, Miller could have been a top receiver at his position but was utilized a lot as a blocker and was tremendous at it, yet still ended up with 592 receptions and 45 TDs, team records for the position. A modest team first player, unlike so many of his teammates, it's a huge loss.
Agreed! Miller was severely underused! Half the time he was run blocking or utilized as an extra tackle because of Steelers piss poor and very dark OL over the year's..
Well, better late than never.
Miller was an excellent all around tight end who never got as much credit from the media as he deserved. That's the kind of player I'd want on my team, a team player that can be relied on in every aspect of the game.
Just read something I never realized -- Heath Miller retires with the 6th highest number of receptions of any NFL tight end! And he did so while being underused as a pass catcher his entire career.
