Give Up On Basketball

Okay, they sucked me back into watching this stuff with Reddick, Morrison and West Virginia. I had sworn off watching this March Madness nonsense for a long time, until last year when I did catch parts of some games, mainly due to my son's urging. Last night's Duke game was the first nearly complete college game I've watched in many years. Folks, I don't care if these things are fixed by someone, or if white players just do choke. Either way, it's the same result- black players win, white players lose. It's as simple as that. It may be planned, or it may just be that even the best white players have been intimidated to such an extent that they just can't perform when the pressure is on. J.J. Reddick is a great kid, and he was indeed hacked and banged all night by the unknown black defender who blanketed him. Still, he allowed himself to be blanketed by some run-of-the-mill black opponent. That's ridiculous! No black star would ever be blanketed by an unknown defender (and certainly not a white one). On the few occasions he drove to the basket, he took the typical white, "chicken-out" way, stopping short of jamming it home, and trying a lame jumper or attemtping to dish it off to a teammate. Yes, the guy "guarding" him probably committed 30 fouls at least. However, the reality is that black players are allowed to play "aggressive" (in other words, illegal "street ball" defense), while white players must abide by the rules. Reddick should know this by now. As someone else noted on another thread, his horrible performance will undoubtedly please his many, many detractors, and also probably cost him several slots in the NBA draft. As for Morrison, I feel really, really bad for him. This kid is such a great story, and it should break the heart of every true sports fan to see him end up crying on his knees at the end of the UCLA game. That's a picture that will be etched into the minds of many impressionable whites (and blacks) for a long time; the great white hope down and crying in defeat, as the happy, victorious blacks jump up and down in celebration. Have we ever seen the reverse scenario over the past quarter century? Again, I don't know whether or not the game was fixed, but the result was what those in Don King's America would have wanted. It also mirrored the kind of results that this "madness" has produced now for a few decades. But the way these three teams lost last night is what makes it so hard to take. West Virginia fighting back valiantly, only to lose on a shot with less than a second left. Gonzaga blowing a lead that should have been impossible to blow. Finally, Duke losing to an all black team of horrendous shooters, led by a chubby, junior Shaq with a typically absurd pet nickname ("Big Baby"- what is that?) I'm sure that all the white fans and jock-sniffing "journalists" are very, very happy.

It was a long night for CF members. It will take a while to get over it barring a miracle showing from Wichita St. tonight.

Woah, Morrison played well. Reddick played poorly, but look at Duke's big men. They SUCKED. Anyway, Morrison and Reddick have been pisser usually so I think they'll get drafted high. They need to make it in the NBA where it counts for more. Dirk Nowitski scored 50 I heard. That's something.

Hey sometimes your teams just lose. The only team that was really upset was Duke, WVA and Gonzaga both lost to higher seeded awesomely coached teams. That ending to the Texas game was the craziest 10 seconds of college basketball in 10 years for me. And who could see UCLA stealing the ball from Gonzaga twice in 5 seconds, then having Gonzaga still being able to attempt a buzzer beater? Seeing Morrison cry just proves he's human, who wouldn't cry in a situation like that? All in all just an awesome night of basketball, no matter who won. (my teams Kent State and Ohio State lost early)

It was a horrible night ,but it was the third round. It's not like Duke got beat by Southern or some other SWAC scrub team. It would have been worse if our boys lost in the first round. Last time Gonzaga brought an all White starting lineup to the tournament they went to the elite eight back in 98' even though they were virtually unknowns. Maybe the increased "diversity" is their problem since then.Edited by: KG2422

If Morrison comes back and with the addition of Downs and Burgess..they may get whiter.

If Morrison comes back he is an idiot. In 2007 many people will be entering the NBA Draft, this year he goes definite top 3, maybe first overall. Next year he might be out of the top 5 all together.

It depends on what's more important to him.Idiot is a strong word JoeV.If it is worth it to come back his senior year to the Zags to compete for a title and enjoy his senior year and by the way develop his game even more..then have at it. I personally would take my millions and enter the draft now while his value his high and not risk a catastophic injury his senior year.

All I was able to watch last night was the second half of the WVU-Texas game, so I'm not as down as many here. WVU played great in the second half, overcoming a large halftime deficit against a higher seeded team only to lose because of a last second shot that Paulino might make one time out of five at most.

If the Mountaineers had been able to rebound at all they would have won. Texas outrebounded them 45-16, and 17-3 in offensive rebounds. It's amazing West Virginia made such a game of it operating under a handicap like that.

I feel the same way bigunreal does. I never watch basketball, but last night was going to be different. I started out watching the Duke-LSU game. Boring-low scoring and we know how that one ended. A little later, while flipping through the channels I see the Dallas Mavericks and Dirk Nowitski playing. He has 50 points and they are up by 6 pts with less then one minute to go. As time runs out the Golden State player heaves a shot 5 feet outside of the 3 pt line and "swish" golden state wins by a point. Next up, I turn to the West Virginia-Texas game and what do you know. The Texas player, about 2-3 feet outside of the 3pt line heaves a shot as time runs out and "swish" Texas wins. I was about ready to give up on basketball, figuring it couldnt get any worse, but I thought I might as well watch this next game between UCLA and Gonzaga, after what I have seen tonight, it couldnt possibly end up more heartbreaking then the other games. Well we know how that one ended. Basketball was a nice little experiment for me, but my winter sport is hockey, I think I will stick to watching that.

WTH? The 'zags only lost to UCLA by one point right? It is not like they got blown out 'Glory Road' style. Reddick and Morrison have brought alot of interest back into College Basketball and should be commended, I can't wait to see these guys make it into the NBA (although there is going to be a two minute hate against Reddick for Duke losing but it will pass after a few days. )

Never give up! "They" would just love us to concede basketball. White guys just need to work more on jumping and running in the off season. Due to separate evolution blacks are more adapted to sprinting and jumping so if we want to beat them we have to work a lot harder which our guys can. For example, Pittsnogle should be a decent shot blocker at 6'11" lean and long armed. The only real hustling athlete in the game for them was Gange. Without Gange's few points and block and primarily his intangibles that did not show up in a box score WVA would have been blown out. He is a good example for an aspiring white player as he is willing to hustle and jump and run and do some dirty painful work at times.

Just a slight correction regarding the phrase "blown out Glory Road style" Texas Western beat KY in the 1966 championship 72-65, hardly a blowout.

Fans need to start making some noise and complaining about the officiating. They are gradually letting the college game go the way of the pro game. They are allowing the defender's to mug the player with the ball. Walking or palming is seldom called. All of these factors hurt the white basketball players.

You guys can blame JP Batista for that Gonzaga loss. That idiot should have passed the ball back to the inbounder as soon as he got the inbound pass. But no Batista holds on to the ball for to long and being a big man who has no ball control skills of course the ball is going to get stolen from him. As for the Texas-WVU game that was a heart breaker. Pittsnogle gets elbowed in the nose and yet there is no fouled called. I remember telling my friend as we were watching the game in a bar that Kevin would come back into the game and nail a 3 to send it to OT. Though unfourtuatly the basketball gods would never have a white team do well against a black team so of course Texas had to win on the luckiest shot in the world.

Also, thank you West Virginia seniors(Pittsnogle, Gansey, Herber, and Beilein) on a great two years. It was a blast to watch those kids play.

I wonder how much of a white prescence will be on the West Virginia team next year with all those seniors gone. Does anybody know? I sure would like to keep rooting for this school but not if it returns to token whites being on the court to just pass the ball.

I believe they have 3 whites and 3 blacks in their incoming class, including Jonnie West, Jerry's son.

Jerry West's son. I had no idea. What kind of prospect is he? If he's half as good as his father!

from scout.com:
Jonnie West is a cerebral guard with a fine stroke. Given West Virginia's style of play and his ability to assimilate into a structured system, the fit was natural. West attended the Nike All-American Camp last summer.

He is only rated as a 2 star, but these recruiting sites tend to always downplay the actual ratings of white players.. if he is a good shooter, you know he'll fit into WVU's 3 point style offense... and there's always the hope that the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree!

also, they had 6'6" frosh Alex Ruoff coming off the bench qutie a bit this season. he is another long guard who can really shoot the ball.

Belein's teams at Richmond usually were pretty white so I imagine West Virginia won't be completely black any time soon.. but it all comes in cycles...

Well speaking more along the lines of the hollywood version of those events, there is a thread dissecting that film around here somewhere.
