it is somewhat popular, enough for most teams to be semi pro and pay their players a little...

i wish i had known about that league when i was in germany. can't say i've heard of it (they even have a team where i lived according to that website), but that's an encouraging sign that football is catching on over there. i'm sure that's due in no small part to the huge population of u.s. troops there. a lot of those names and faces on the rosters look distinctly american. i will say that the German fans who showed up to the average NFL Europe game (maybe 10-15 thousand on avg.) were quite enthusiastic and every bit as rabid as a devoted fanbase would be in the states.

oh yeah, Germany is definitely the best place for football in Europe... i played some in London Blitz when i was there for a year and then had a stint at Madrid Osos last year but neither Spain nor England, France, Sweden and Italy can compare to Germany...

i can see football getting more and more popular there, unfortunately they are not the most athletic nation and i just wish it catches on more in England and Eastern Europe!

actually come to think of it, i do know a guy who claims he played some 'semi-pro' ball when he was stationed in berlin a few years back. the amount of money he received was very very small, he just did it for fun. he walked on to a practice and had some pads lent to him. apparently he impressed enough in that one outing to make the team. he's a big fella, but not really the model of athleticism so i wouldn't put much stock into this league. probably the equivalent of a Div III team at best.

Oh, the Euros possess the needed athleticism, but these players are already competing against soccer for the best, and rugby for the tough guys. Its the same situation as soccer in the US, except that American football abroad can't pull any pros to go play there, just the native fanatics, college players who aren't drafted, and canuckleheads who the NFL won't play.

Germany always seems pretty athletic in the Olympics and the World Cup. Also, they're not too bad in basketball despite it's lack of popularity there.

Still. Europe's bes athletes are mostly from Scandinavia and The Balkans.

i would have to strongly disagree. in my personal opinion, best athletes in Europe come from eastern Europe (Russia, Ukraine, Poland etc)

PS after a quick research i just discovered that Poland and Czech Republic have their own football leagues as well.Edited by: backrow

I was thinking of starting a thread on German athletes, or more specifically the lack thereof. I remember East and West Germany combined routinely winning more medals in the Summer Olympics than either the USSRor the U.S. But anymore German athletes seem to be conspicuously missing. Golf, tennis, basketball, hockey, weightlifting, boxing, track and field, swimming, etc., the number of great German athletes to be found is few and far between even as many sports have become more globalized. Yeah they still can be found in the Summer and Winter Olympics in some specialized sports, but overall the German athlete seems to be but a shell of what he was up until recently.

Is it another symptom of the psychological and spiritual sickness that has overtaken whites in many countries manifestating itself in sports, ala the French and white Americans in some sports? Germany in particular has been beaten down by several generations of non-stop propaganda teaching Germans to be ashamed of themselves and their history. White birthrates are down everywhere, and a decline in white athletic excellence seems to be an additional byproduct of the NWO in some nations.

The pussyification of Germany is part of the problem but so is the wealth of the nation. When Germany produced boxers and had sprinters that set world records in the late 50's to early 60's the country was dirt poor and the people were hungry. These days even the Bohemian squatters probably get more on welfare than a Walmart worker gets for 40 hours a week in the States.

Hey all,

im german and i play in GFL2, thats the second german league. there are 6 leagues in germany in total.
Theres plenty of athletic germans, at one point we had three guys that run 4.5s on our squad. One of them plays in platteville wisconsin now (UWP).
I also played football in Ireland for 2 seasons when i lived there ( i grew up in Ireland). The level is extremely lower than in Germany though.
