I keep telling myself he WON'T be another Shirvington who did 10.03 at the same age but then stalled.
I hope Torto having an ex-sprinter dad makes the big difference

Yeah, when I saw the 10.03 at 19, I thought of Shirvo too. Shirvo had a bad coach who over trained him, whereas it looks like Tortu has a pretty good crew. I see Tortu also has a 10.09 he ran on May 23 in Savona with a legal wind (+1.2). There was on a +0.7 on his 10.03. I feel pretty confident Tortu breaks it this year.

Any of you track buffs know what the record is for youngest man to break to 10.00? Tortu will be high up on that list.

I see Bingtian Su has a 10.05 already, Guliev has a 10.10 and Gemeli has a 10.11. It is looking like a great season.

Limitless. I beg to differ on a great season only because where is Kilty, Reuss, Kiryu and why is Spain's Hortlelano running the 400 meters? Why hasn't Finland's Samuel Purola posted any times yet. Su Bingtian should be running more. Good weather is here and many of our guys our absent.

Su ran the Prefontaine meet 100m on Saturday 9.90 +2.4 From what I have read Hortelano is easing back into competition, the 100m and 200m will come later in season.

Kilty, Reuss, and Kiryu have all run this season, but their times and performances weren't worth posting about.
Samuel Purola also just ran this weekend in Spain, 10.53. So not a great start for him either this season.
One good recent performance was Hassan Taftian of Iran, 10.19 (1.1) and 10.17 (1.1) in the heats at a meet in France (where was Lemaitre?).
Also David Maineti of Italy 20.51 (0.0).

if he got a better start today sub 10 was a real possibility, like I mentioned before his sprinting form is beautiful and very good technically

I agree Tortu looks like the REAL THING. I was watching several Diamond events yesterday including the women's High Jump where the white gals dominated.

Back to Tortu. After his ridiculously slow start in Rome if he can get out of the box quicker the sky is the limit because he has that PURE SPEED. You can see the jets. Cripes he was playing catch up from the get go. So yes Sprintstar a sub 10 is in the bag with a better start!!

That'd be Trayvon Bromell who ran 9.97 a month before he turned 19.
Two sprinters, Blake and Ogunkoya were 19 and 7 months.
    No others yet

Mennea's Italian record (10.01) was almost 39 years old.

    yes, fantastic.
And Bingtian gets back the Chinese record after a few days with his 9.91. He now supersedes the imported Qatari who held the Asian record

Bingtian has the number 2 time in the world this year right now for 100 meters, and looks like he still has upside. I gotta hand to this guy, he is absolutely destroying the caste system!!

This is nuts. The caste system in track and field is beginning to crumble. Imagine the tidal wave this could create. How many more white and asian kids are going to start saying "I can compete and I can win".
