Last night ESPN Sportscenter focused exclusively on young Josh Smith of the Hawks. They must have shown him dunk half a dozen times. Seems like an athletic guy with big hops but the highlights did not reflect the fact that the Hawks got beat yet again. The focus on Smith reinforces the idea that sports are mainly about two things. One that blacks are" superior" in speed and jumping--hence giving them an outlaw and exciting veneer. Secondly that sports are to showcase blacks humiliating the "less athletic' whites. Which is whyI sense a backlash will be underway. Still there are too few white athletes today to challenge the status quo.
