I have never seen him so excited about an event and rightly so. He is ready and prepared. Spoke to his coach yesterday and they identified his "failure" on Monday. He will be working on it today in preparation.

He needs to put all facets together tomorrow and we will see a good time and placing.

I hope your son reads the comments sometimes as the positive energy can bring him good vibes! Go out there and show the world the back of your jersey! Man would it be great to see it in person. Too bad you couldn't be there Mielie23!

If there is any advice I could give to Emile it is this. Believe it before you acheive it! He should visualize the perfect race with him executing all phases in his head. Also picture the time clock saying 9.99! You can do it Emile! We are so hyped for you!
We all know you should have had several Diamond League Opportunities years ago. You are one of the top 2% of sprinters on earth. Now it's time to shine in the prime time!:ole:

Thank you for the advice. He has a specific start routine. This includes exactly as you explained.

Emile finished in 5th place. It was a cold wet night and most of the sprinters outside of Fred Kerly(Olympic Silver Medalist) didn't run fast times. Second place was way back at 10.14 with the winner at 9.92.

I thought he did very well for being stuck in in the very outside lane. Emile finished in the middle of the pack and took 5th out of 9 sprinters. He did good and he made us proud. Don't hang your head down low Emile.
I was yelling and screaming and you were very fun to watch. I hope to see you in another diamond league later this years as well as alot of other races. If Erasmus would have had an inside lane I bet he would have run
at a 10.15 or better. It's a shsme the weather wasn't too good. It did slow down all the sprinters except for the winner. Excited to continue following you Emile!

Not his best race. He was extremally nervous. Not a bad result 5th place 10.22. Wind was ok -0.2. He ran lane 9!

The nerves, the outside lane, the weather, all things considered, he did well and gained valuable experience. Do you know when his next race is?

June 16 in Copenhagen

Great news. I'm also glad he has a full week to rest and be fresh and at his optimum condition for Copenhagen. It only takes one race and he needs to not ever get to down on himself. Emile Erasmus can and will do this! Keep your head up brother!

Very good news after last night. Emile's world ranking dropped from 87 to 40 which puts him in the zone for Eugene as a world ranking qualifier. This info is available on World Athletics "Road to Oregon 2022" website!

It is still not a certainty as we have 3 qualified sprinters by time. Of the three Gift Lotlela is woefully out of shape and is running 10.3's at the moment and Clarence Munyai is a 200 specialist. It will now be up to Athletics South Africa to include Emile for Eugene but first prize is still to do sub 10.03.

Clarence qualified with a 10.04 in March, Gift ran a 10.03 in September 2021 and Akani Simbine qualified with 9.84 in July 2021.

Emile ran in Copenhagen in 2018 and ran a 10.11 with a -1.5 wind and broke the meeting record.

Interesting video on the race last night. Looks like it was only Emile's reaction time that cost him a podium. Look at the replay they have all the athletes speeds.

I would have liked to have seen that video but it's no longer there. Being nervous will cause any sprinter to either false start or more likely to have a very slow reaction time. It's so hard to react
to that starting gun. He is usually spot on and I'm sure he will rebound in the next race. Looking forward to it. Good luck to Emile in Copenhagen.

Just a side story.

Emile has been with the same coach since September 2012. In 2014,15 and 16 he could not break 10.20 with a pb of 10.21. As soon as the 2017 season started his coach made a deal with him. If he breaks 10.20 in 2017 he will run a 400m hurdle league race in his suit. On 13 May 2017 Emile skipped the 10.1's and ran a 10.08pb.

In September 2017 his coach, Frans van Rooyen, entered a league race and ran the 400mh. He was allowed by the organizers to run in his suit but needed to wear spikes. To add insult to injury it rained on the day.

The moral of the story: The level of trust and commitment between an athlete and his/her coach is absolute.

I include a pic of the race.

Wow is that funny. Would love to have seen that race. I can't even imagine trying to run in a suit let and even worse in a soggy wet suit from the rain. How did he hurdle? Lol. I'm suprised his coach didn't end up in the hospital.

It's great that his coach kept his word as if you don't have trust then why bother? Any relationship from school to work to dating/marraige. It's all about trust. His coach sounds like an inspiring leader. Emile is in good hands. Thanks
for sharing the story. Got some laughs out of me and to see that race would be priceless! :)

It was hilarious!!

Unfortunately no video of the race. His coach did well and cleared all the hurdles. Cannot remember his time. His coach was a decent sprinter in his early 20's and quickest in the 10.40's.

Emile ran Copenhagen won his heat and cruised with 10.20. Won the final 10.05 unfortunately the wind was illegal +2.1.

He is coming back to South Africa on Saturday to do his USA visa.

Thank you guys for the amazing support.

Got some issues with the videos will post both as soon as I can

Wow a 10.05! That wind really sucks. Just over the 2.0 limit. Still an amazing performance and as you said he seems to like running in Copenhagen with his success there. So will South Africa allow him to
run in the individual heats of the 100 meters for the World Championshps even though it just missed being wind legal? I sure hope so. It would be a travesty if they don't. Congrats to Emile. One good news
about traveling to America is that the US is not requiring a negative covid test anymore to enter the country. Makes it less of a burden. Excited to see the video. What a year he is having! :)
