Ironic how African players are supposedly "the best in the world" but they can't even win on their own continent where they're the clear majority. This also shows that Ghana's players from the U-20 championship team couldn't get the job for them in the pro circuit. And to top it off Egypt was playing without one of their best strikers, Mahmoud FathAllah, while Ghana was at full strength.

If Egypt can beat these guys I don't see why most second-rate or 3rd rate Euro team can take them out in the first round even if this is the first World Cup on African soil.

I had thought Nigeria and Cameroon pretty much dominated the soccer scene in Africa but you say Egypt has won the African Cup three years in a row. Wow!

Good news. Certainly a victory by Egypt cannot be called a black victory. What's the racial mix in Egypt? Egyptians are mostly of Turkish descent, no? Some Egyptians look very white however (e.g. Omar Sharif). Edited by: Solomon Kane

many egyptian players are very white in appereance.

the west african teams are constantly bigged up in the media and everyone is always hoping for a west african team to make it big in the world cup. this year the media has been harpind on about the strength of the west african country the Ivory Coast, but in the african cup of nations, once again, its the northern, light skinned africans that have dominated.

why does the premier league have so many west african players but so few from egypt and algeria?

Algeria also did well - knocked out by Egypt in the semi-finals - and Algeria also qualified for the World Cup. Algeria is a mixture of Arabs and somewhat Caucasian Berbers and are normally quite small in stature.

Egypt has 2 in Engand and Algeria 4. Just about all Egyptian players play in Egypt. They must pay pretty well in Egypt, plus they must have restrictions on foreign players in Egypt to cater to their own players. Imagine that.Which is what the European teams should do. I like Rebajlo's idea of only have 3 foreigners period in each team, not starters, but on the whole team . If I had it my why there would be zero immigration and zero foreigner players, but that is not going to happen. The West African countries have almost no real leagues at all, so those players have to leave their country and they get to steal jobs from the European players.

Sorry, I completely missed the African Cup. Somehow it wasn't important enough to register on my radar. Some semi-White team that failed to qualify for the World Cup won, I heard...Yawn...I think I'll go back to sleep now.
