I attended this past weekend's Xavier- Duke game. Jon Scheyer was ,by far , the best player on the court. He had 14 points in the first 10 minutes. This is despite, being frequently open but blacks teammates (plus Kyle Singler) don't have the word "pass" in their vocabulary. I almost fainted when the alleged "point guard" Nolan Smith actually passed to Scheyer. The jocksniffers believe no white player can play defense. I particularly watched Scheyer on defense. His defense on one of the top players on seventh ranked Xavier (all black starting five) was the definition of "lock down" . Scheyer could have easily topped 30 points but , IMHO , he passes too much. He passess which frequently lead to baskets but also frequently result in Scheyer passing up a shot to pass to someone with a worse shot. I must admit since Duke is considered by blacks and DWF as a "white" team , it was quite a pleasure to see Duke run out to an 18 to 1 lead in the first half. Duke has their lead up to 30 points despite, Singler, and Nolan Smith not having good games. I think Duke led by 31 at the half. Duke let up greatly in the second half. They were ahead by 24 with less than a minute to play when a white freshman guard from Xavier buried 2 3's to make the final score a very misleading 18 margin. Why the white guard only played 2 minutes before he reentered the game during the garbage time with only several minute is obvious.

Duke 7-footer Brian Zoubeck has really stepped up his game too and has vastly improved footwork around the basket. I think he is the key to how far Duke advances in the tournament.

    Guest 301;
You are absolutely correct. Every time Coach K took Zoubek out , Xavier ,which is a very good team, began to cut into Duke's lead. Coach K didn't allow Zoubek to play more than 4 or 5 minutes in a row , except for the opening 10 minutes when Duke absolutely destroyed Xavier. Xavier's coach , former Pitt white point guard , Sean Miller is obviously a caste whore. When Xavier came out for warm ups , they were 50% white, but a white didn't play until the latter part of the first half. Zoubek ate up the Xavier afff-letes, blocking shots, intimidating them , showing very improved footwork and reobounding. Sean Miller finally inserted highly ranked white freshman 7 footer Kenny Frease, and he gave Zoubek a little trouble. The difference with and without Zoubek or Frease was obvious. In the second half, Coack K didn't start Zoubek and Xavier reeled off seven straight points to cut the lead to 24 !! LOL. Zoubek was quickly subbed in and the lead immediately went back up to the 30s.

Did you notice how the announcers were very praiseworthy of Zoubeck throughout the game? That sick pass/assist that Zoubeck had underneath the basket with traffic all around him had those guys screaming "wow" on the TV. Hopefully Coach K will do this guy right and I pray he stays healthy.

Do you guys think Duke actually might have a good chance to take the tournament this year? Boy they are playing good! I want to see a team that gives half their minutes or more to whites take the tournament this year; although North Carolina wouldn't be the worst since their best player is Tyler Hansborough. It should be an exciting tournament this year; hopefully the officiating won't slant it in favor of the media's "black supermen". The officials were quick to send black stars to the line last tournament and call some dubious fouls on white defenders.Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins

I think Duke has as good a chance if not better than they have had the last five years or so. It's just hard for perimeter oriented shooting teams, drive and dish to stay hot for six games and win the whole thing. I am counting on Zoubeck, Thomas and Singler to give them better back to the basket play this year. Scheyer should get more All- American mention than he gets. He's definitely a NBA talent.

Jon Scheyer definitely is NBA talent, I pray he doesn't end up like J.J. Redick.

For Duke to be a serious contender
to win the NCAA tournament IMO, Coach K needs to use Zoubek more,
especially if they play G-town or UConn. Against UNC Zoubek can
somewhat neutralize Hansbrough. If Zoubek is allowed to play more
minutes and especially if he continues to improve Duke has a good
chance in the NCAAs. Duke is solid at guard. When you consider Paulus
who was a starter since his freshman year lost his starting position,
their depth is impressive. Henderson has added a very accurate 3
pointer which really makes him a difficult match up. Nolan Smith
although probably better overall than Paulus, doesn't distribute the
ball enough. Paulus and Scheyer distribute the ball well. Scheyer
should take more shots. IMHO, Duke can improve if some starters
(Singler, Smith, Henderson) were more team oriented. They will force
shots frequently rather than pass to a teammate (especially Scheyer)
    who is clearly open. </span>

Even though i am new on this website i would like to say that you are totally wrong! Jon Scheyer attempts the second lost shots on the Blue Devils. Also Kyle Singler indeed does pass the ball. He has the Most assists on the team. Third of all Paulus cant do sh*t but shoot . But you are right about Henderson although he is black he has really added to his game and become of of the nations elite players. I like scheyer but i think you guys give him to much praise

God forbid we lavish too much praise on a white player, Shame on us. Scheyer is clearly the most productive and dependable player, game in and game out on the Duke team. He's not just a shooter, he can clearly create his own shot off the dribble and on a less talented team Scheyer would be averaging 23 to 28 points a game.

    easy does it, fellas. [IMG]

while i'm a big fan of Jon Scheyer, he's the second-best Blue Devil. Singler is Duke's best player, as evidenced not only by opposing teams' defensive strategies but also by the fact he is currently leading the team in scoring, rebounds, and assists, and plays excellent defense.

Scheyer certainly has the all-around ability to be a contributor at the NBA-level, especially if he continues to develop his point guard skills (as he has shown the past few games). however, he suffers from three near-impossible hurdles to overcome to make it to the NBA. 1) he's white. 2) he's American born. 3) he's not a big. therefore, it is unlikely the NBA folks will give him any chance whatsoever, as stupid as that is. he's a winner, and any team should want players like him, but there have been tons of similar white players just over the past decade who were completely ignored by the NBA.

as for Paulus, he's a tough point guard who can flat-out shoot the ball, and he is also an excellent passer (as evidenced by leading the ACC in assists as a freshman). he's a better offensive player than current starting point guard Nolan Smith, but not as good an on-ball defender. i prefer Paulus, myself, because he brings more to the table. however, despite not starting, he is still getting a lot of minutes, and it wouldn't surprise me if his playing time increases as the season progresses.

also, Scheyer has been running some point, as well, and he is an excellent defender. so Duke may have both he and Paulus in the backcourt if Smith continues to play erratically on the offensive end, which would give them two excellent scorers in the backcourt, as well as two solid ball handlers.

Zoubek needs to get more touches in the post. if he does, good things will happen for Duke. otherwise, he isn't going to contribute. if the team foolishly doesn't keep him involved while he's on the floor, then the Blue Devils should go with a small lineup and run, run, run. Zoubek's shown a LOT of improvement this year, and can really help them, but they need to make a point to let him touch the ball often. far too many college teams don't get their big men involved enough at the offensive end, in my opinion.

the player who bothers me the most is Gerald Henderson. he still hogs the ball too much, gambles too much on defense, and takes too many bad shots. if he weren't such a great leaper, he'd bring absolutely nothing to the table. as it is, i think he gets way more minutes than he should. i'd like to see Martynas Pocius get a few of Henderson's minutes. he's looked very good of late, and now that he's healthy he's on par with Henderson athletically, and he's a far superior shooter and passer.

thank you jimmy for the first good post on this thread! but the one thing i have to disagree with you is that Pocius does not deserve any minutes at all. All he does when he is in the game is stand in the corner and shoot but he still cant make a shot even wide open i have seen him throw up a couple air balls this year that were wide open shots so he does not deserve any time the one guy i think deserves more time is Jordan Davidson. When Duke Empties the bench every game instead of Pocius, we should have Paulus play shooting guard and Davidson could handle the ball. Or every time time that Pocius comes in the game for a minute before garbage time Davidson should take those minutes.

I agree with much of that especially the NBA potential being much greater for Singler than Scheyer. I just see Scheyer as being the emotional leader of the team(besides Paulus), the guy I want to take the last shot of the game or at the free throw line with the game on the line. Scheyer has alot of creativity to his game and clearly works and practices hard to add something different each year. Singler is a better player but it's not his team, it's Scheyers.

If any school had the codds to have all white stars they wouldnt ever lose. Very few blacks can think during the game. White players are cooler under preasure, and tougher all around.

Redick0829. You stick little sarcastic thorns in some of your posts and you don't have that many yet. Either you are here in need of a clue or to cause trouble. Why as you suggest that Zoubeck will carry next years Duke team, do you think that would bother me. I don't think that will happen but geez I would be happy as anybody else at CF if he continues to progress to star level. So why would you "hate to break it to me" as you posted above. I hope he becomes that good. I am pretty happy so far with Zoubecks progress this year but Scheyer and Singler are still the go to players on that team and sometimes Henderson.

redick0829, i've noticed that a lot of Duke fans don't like Pocius. why is that?

every time i see him play, he plays very hard, shows a lot of athleticism, works hard on defense, passes the ball, and shows a diverse skill set on the offensive end.

why do so many Dukies not like him? i just don't get it.

The Reason is when you sign with duke you have to give a promise to coach K that you will do everything to win. Pocius is a guy that can shoot pretty well but wont do anything else. He does not try on defense, He wont go for a lose ball and most importantly he doesn't have the will to win like all of the other duke players. Us Duke fans don't care if his defense is bad (Aka JJ Redick) but we will start respecting him when he starts playing like he wants to win and not being one of the few that go to Duke that don't give a F*** about the team and the game. When you step on the floor for Duke you have to represent and Pocius right now just doesn't.

Thats pretty harsh words regarding Pocius. I am pretty sure as D-1 athlete at Duke he has a love for the game.

The thing with Pocius i think he could be a good D-1AA player but at one of the best teams in the country he is not a great fit.
