Being a Duke fan for over forty years, it has been difficult these last few years watching them make an early exit from the ncaa playoffs. I'm always amused by all the experts who start questioning Coach K's abilities. I can deal with all the monday morning quarterbacks. That just goes with the territory. What really gripes me is the reason some people give for their lackluster performances, which brings me to my story. The other morning I got in my car and the radio was on and tuned to one of the morning talk shows. I don't remember which one. The two dj's were talking about what was wrong with Duke. The one dj which was obviously white said that Duke was to unathletic and to white. The other dj who was obviously black said they needed some big black brothers on their team, and that white basketball players were like white boxers; they couldn't get the job done. They both laughed and said former Duke star and current play by play commentator Jay Bilas had said as much himself. How sad.

Media statements like these are what completely turn me off to television and radio nowadays.

No self-respecting man would ever, EVER say such things about his own people, even in kidding.

An ex-athlete saying such things, no less, is like kicking every little white kid in the face and telling him never to try to play a sport, which, I suspect, is what certain people would really like to happen.

"Unathletic?"

"Too white?"

Only a complete retard or repressed homosexual would ever say such things.

The trouble is, most people in the world are dumb, and they'll believe anything they're told on the radio or on TV, and as liberals and white wimps cave more and more to the idea that Russians are only good at chess because all the great black chess players suffer racism, or that the best boxers on the planet today are white only because black boxers are suffering from some kind of nazi conspiracy, it's only going to get worse.

I;m just waiting for the day when some black NBA oaf chop-blocks or high-tackles Steve Nash to injure him on purpose, and watch all the news reports blame it on Nash for traveling or something.

Gah...

Good (and very funny) point.

Greatest chess players of all time (in no particular order):

Alekhine
Capablanca
Morphy
Fischer
Kasparov
Karpov
Euwe
Lasker

As far as Duke is concerned, they will be back. Hell, at one point this year they were 20-1. Nobody was saying they were unathletic then. But people only remember the tourney.Edited by: Poacher

Duke might still be playing if McRoberts stayed a another year and if Pocius hadn't been injured all year. They'll be back next year.Edited by: shawn1262231

Taylor King, however, won't be back.

HAHAHA -- would that white college b-ball players were dominating like white boxers.

The problem with Duke is they are becoming PC. Coach K started 3 blacks this year. Usually they start 3-4 whites.

The Duke bench looked all-white so maybe next year they will go back to 4 white starters are rediscover their traditional dominance through white genius on the court.

Taylor unfortunately sees the writing on the wall. He would like more playing time. Only DeMarcus Nelson is leaving. 3 starters are set in whites Paulus and Singler and black Henderson. White guard Pocius is coming back from injury. Also white Jon Scheyer and black Nolan Smith comes off of the bench. And finally with white Olek Czyz and black Elliot Williams coming in as recruits, (and both possibly could be the other two starters) it was clear he would not get too much minutes. Has a great shot (though could be a bit streaky) but his defense needs a little bit of work and at Duke that will cut your playing time. Hopefully he could come back to the L.A. Metro Area and enroll at UCLA. I wish the best for Taylor.

Duke needs a big man to be in the blocks. Henderson (sometimes) and especially Singler (just about all of the time) were playing out of position and a bit undersized. Both did a hell of a job for rebounding and gaurding big men but lack of size will cost you in the long run. Thomas and Zoubek were decent but not as talented as Henderson and Singler. Duke was really dominant when they had big men. Latenear (sp), Parks, Williams, Brand, and McRoberts (and he could shoot a 3). They could have gone further if McRoberts would have stayed.

Duke isn't going to dominate until they

a. get in the freaking weight room

b. recruit big mem

they don't even have to recruit skilled big men, they just need bangers to go in there and block shots, dent the dribble penetration and get rebounds. i liked McRoberts but the guy had a soft inside game. i just don't get why these guys don't take the necessary steps to get bigger and stronger, especially the big men. people (black sports commentators) were knocking Kevin Love's athletic ability (what a surprise), body fat and strength. what did he do? he went to work and now looks to be in the best shape of his life. all of Duke's players need to have the same mindset. they're all great players, high bball IQ's but they have to adjust to the new "thuggish" style of college ball. the good news is it ain't that hard to improve strength or size or even speed (see Joe Alexander). they just have to buckle down and make strength and 7 footers a bigger part of their culture.

here's hoping...
