Really I thought I heard that Chad ran a 4.6 in college. I know for a fact though that Bolden ran a 4.7 and, Keshawn I'm almost positive runs a 4.6 and I have heard not actually read that Rice only ran in the 4.6 range. The problem with 40 times is that the only valid source you can use is Combine and Proday statistics and NFLdraftscout.com only lists back to 1999. College times are handtimed and often what you read on the internet about 40 times is B.S

most of those are true although im pretty sure i read somwhere that boldin was hurt at the combine and later ran like a 4.5 at his proday..regardless, bennett has comparable speed to all of those guys. besides speed isn't really the main thing in having a large avg. per catch unless you're truly CRAZY fast, i think it has much more to do with route running since lots of guys who hav good avgs. (ie. bennet, jerry rice) werent burners but were guys with good speed but even better route running

I'm pretty sure that Chad Johnson was a 4.6 guy at the Combine. Bennett at 6-5 and with 4.5 speed is a very impressive athlete, a big-time weapon if used properly.

There was a scroll during NFL Live on ESPN tonight that the 49ers have cut WR Antonio Bryant, but I haven't been able to confirm it. It's possible they will try to re-sign him at a lower salary. At any rate, Bryant was disappointing in '06 as San Fran's number one receiver, plus he's prone to extreme volatility such as idiotic verbal outbursts and the occasional run-in with the law (he had a well-publicized DUI late last season while his team still had an outside shot at the playoffs).

San Francisco sounds like the best place by far for Bennett of those mentioned so far. He'd be the number 1 or 1A receiver on a fast-improving team with a good young quarterback in Alex Smith and a standout RB in Frank Gore. Tennessee and Minnesota would be terrible fits, while Oakland would be better but not nearly as good as San Francisco.

Oh then sorry. I tought that Chad Johnson was faster than Bennett. I will love that Bennett go to 49ers and maybe they will draft Carriker in first round. That will be a great direction

My bad

From today's DraftDaddy: "Wide receiver Drew Bennett is headed west to San Francisco and could get up to $12 million in signing bonus money."

With the waiving of Antonio Bryant, Bennett looks to be the top receiver on an up and coming team. Sounds great to me if he does in fact sign with the 49ers.

Thats great news! Now, hopefully Stokely will get a chance to play somewhere and we can watch both these guys tear it up for years to come.

GREAT news :D.. Wow the offense of 49ers will be terrific. 2 good TE, one good RB, one great receiver.! If they select a great LB and a good DB like Polunsny and Weddle..Great hope for this team..

This is a huge surprise to us: Wide receiver Drew Bennett is strongly considering signing with the Rams

DD.com Comment: Unless something is going down that we are not aware of (like Ike Bruce retiring or Tory Holt being traded) this "potential" move makes zero sense from Bennett's perspective, unless he wants to be a back-up!....Why else would Kevin Curtis leave the Rams and not even consider returning?

If I read that right, Curtis was too much like what they already have and Bennet is a better fit for what they need. But are the Rams what Bennett needs?Edited by: bigman

Can't believe Antonio Bryant got waived. Wasn't he the "stud" coming out of Pitt a few years back? Mike WIlliams, Carlos Rogers, Antontio Bryant, the guy from UCLA a few years ago who went to the Niners, Calvin Johnson is next no doubt, but no room for Mike Haas. Insane.

Yep, Bryant won the Biletnikoff Award, same as Hass. Also like Hass wasn't a burner. Don't know his 40 time, but I'll bet it was in the same vicinity as Hass's.

As CF has documented, all Biletnikoff winners have gone in the first and second round of the NFL Draft -- except for Hass. Bryant went in the second round, but only because he was a world-class problem child at Pitt. He routinely yelled and screamed at his coaches and teammates on the sideline, and had some brushes with the law. He also threw a towel in Bill Parcells face while with the Cowboys. Parcells, always hyped by the media for being so tough with players, did nothing in response.

Bryant does have talent, but he has an out-of-control temperament, and probably quite a low IQ to go with it. I was watching a 49er game this past season when Alex Smith overthrew Bryantwhile he was under intense pressure in the pocket. Bryant went off, screaming his frustration to one of the San Fran coaches in a scene that the cameras obviously caught. He had no concept of what a quarterback goes through, all he cared about was that he was open and the ball wasn't thrown accurately. But Smith ended up apologizing to Bryant for not hitting him. So typical of the dynamics of the NFL.

Wasn't Josh Reed another Biletnikoff winner, he was a bust too! I think a 2nd rounder also.

I've been reading on fantasy sites that Bennett is almost
a sure thing to sign with the Rams. It is said, with an
apparent straight face, that Rams coach Scott Linehan
has been wanting a "big target" in the "slot" and that
Bennett fits the bill perfectly. If Drew Bennett is
stupid enough to sign on as some team's #3 WR (because
we know that no matter how much they pay him, and how
much bigger, faster and more talented he is, anicent
Isaac Bruce will start until he retires), then he
deserves the lack of respect he gets. Amazing- if Curtis
signs with Detroit, he may very well be the #3 WR there,
too. When was the last time that both players considered
the top free-agent WRs signed on as #3 WRs for their new
teams? Bennett is a #1 WR now- why would a #1 use the
free agent system to be demoted to a #3? And Curtis gains
nothing by going from one #3 position to another,
although he could, of course, beat out the other white
WR on the Lions, Mike Furrey. This is so unbelievable
that my usual paranoia is kicking in, and I can't help
theorizing that guys like Bennett make ridiculous
decisions like this because they are ordered to by the
Caste masters that run the league.

bigunreal, I must disagree with you....Isaac Bruce is a better WR than Bennett regardless of how old he is, and for you to say he is more talented than Bruce is not true.

You are kidding me right? Bruce runs better routes, has much better hands, and racks up more yards and has done it for a long time. Drew bennet has only had one season over 800 yards, but regardless of stats....it is clear that bruce is the better WR. I tell it like it is regardless of skin colour, and there is no way Drew compares to Isaac's skill level.Edited by: GSOT

How many years has Drew been given to show his talent like Bruce? Truth be told, Drew hasn't been given much time to shine at all, but when the time was given, he did not disappoint.

Granted, and i am not disputing that fact, infact i agree...given the right team and circumstances Dre woudl shine, but to say he is more talented than Isaac Bruce is a bit far fetched dont you think?

I don't think its far fetched at all. When he gets the ball, he makes a lot of things happen. He's a threat anytime he's on the field. He's fast too. Bruce has been helped by QBs who throw to him all the time. Drew hasn't had that luxury.

lol, thats your reasoning as to why he is Better than Bruce...because Bennet was good for half a season....oh please. And Colonel_Reb you say Bruce gets thrown to all the time....that may be, but he shares time with arguably the best WR in the league and he still produces great numbers....and if he is getting the ball all the time then...umm, call me stupid....but then that means he is most probably open, so what does that say for Drew not getting the ball a lot...i suppose that is nothing to do with him? or is it to do with QB's loosing trust in him as his hands are not exactly the best?Edited by: GSOT

Bruce has had a great career, but it is on the downside now. I posted a few months ago that Bruce has had only one catch of over 50 yards in the past four seasons while Kevin Curtis has had numerous long receptions (and of course Torry Holt too). Given how the Rams offense was designed, at least until the '06 season, that's a very telling stat about Bruce.

Bennett is in what should be his peak years. In the right system (e.g. with a decent quarterback throwing to him), he should be a more valuable receiver than Bruce, who was almost cut last year.

The Rams JUST signed Drew Bennett, So guys now they are both on the same team we can really compare the two ;) oh and the guy above you said he was nearly cut last year, that was not the case....Linehan stated he never had any intention of letting him go it was a strictly business move.Edited by: GSOT
