i sometimes wonder if the sports "reporters" who are getting paid to "report" are fully literate. they certainly aren't professional ... as it appears to be beyond their ability to check their stories for accuracy and mistakes. such as the error this link shows, where Notre Dame running back James Aldridge literally touches the sky with hisleaping ability.
James Aldridge, RB Vertical: 31.5 feet
wow. blacks really can jump!
smiley36.gif

<BR itxt="1">also, it's apparent that Notre Dame safety Kyle McCarthy looked good today, improving his 40 time from the Combine. most reporterslist him as running the 40 in 4.55 and 4.56 secondswhile otherwise performing only position-specific drills. you can see that info here and here. but apparently McCarthy is sooooo talented he also ran the 40 in 4.58 and 4.54 AND ran the 3-cone drill in 6.50 seconds ... despite not even participating in that drill!

you can see those "official" numbers from Gil Brandt here. how many times did he have to run the 40?!?!?
smiley36.gif

you'd think "professional"sports journalists [sic] would be able to get their stories straight ...

ND's 6-3, 205-poundwideout Robby Parris performed, as well.it looks like the tall receiver can really get off the ground. here are his numbers:

Robby Parris<BR itxt="1">Vertical: 38.5"<BR itxt="1">Broad Jump: 10'4"<BR itxt="1">Bench Press: Did not attempt<BR itxt="1">40-Yard Dash: 4.74, 4.69<BR itxt="1">Pro Agility: 4.30<BR itxt="1">3-Cone Drill:6.72<BR itxt="1">60-Yard Shuttle: 11.50

also, if you click on any of those links, you'll quickly note how many incredibly un-athletic affletes Notre Dame has on its roster. and a lot of 'em couldn't even run the 40 without "pulling a hamstring." ha!

Tommy Connors SS Southeastern University

This kid has been a beast his entire career there. I got to see him play in a few games and at practice and he is better in coverage than given credit for. Everybody will admit he is great in the box against the run.

I don't see him listed on many draft sites except a small thing on draft daddy where he was listed as an honorable mention as Draft Daddy's Top 10 Small School Senior Safety Prospects. He was really the only elite playmaker on Southeastern's defense. The coach said hes the type of player that only comes along once in a lifetime at a school like that. Gee I wonder how such a talented athlete wound up at such a small school? It is truly a shame because had he gotten a big time scholarship he would have a much better shot at the pros. I wonder why the coach hasn't realized if he would just pick up and use more underrated players like Tommy he would win more games? So many times in the practices I have watched, I see a white receiver burn one of their "best cornerbacks", only to never to get playing time. Hopefully somebody will pick Tommy up as an UDFA. The guy would make a good starting SS but the odds are against him. Ive heard he has been timed in the 4.5 range.

He had 108 tackles 4 interceptions 6.5 tackles for loss and four pass breakups. He also had two blocked kicks, 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble as he picked up first-team all-conference honors. 4 interceptions led his conference that season, and is great for a safety that mainly played in the box.

That was his junior year, not exactly sure what his official senior stats are but he was on pace to be among the all-time tacklers at the FCS level. Unfortunately he had to miss most of the 09 season with a broken hand which he received in the beginning of the Ole Miss game. Before his senior season he had 250 tackles. He also had six career interceptions, 11 pass breakups and four forced fumbles.

Hes great on the field and in the locker room, really pushes everyone around him to play at their full potential. One of those players that makes everyone around him play better. Technically he has a year left of eligibility left because missing most of the 09 season and he didn't redshirt his freshman year, but I am pretty sure he is not coming back for another year.

[Tube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCAxl2Okcfc[/Tube]
very hard hitter

Here are some of his other plays, this is from 07, where he looks really good, and his playing level has raised tremendously since then, hopefully I can get some junior season highlights and what little he did play during the senior season. I don't know why the school only has stuff from his 07 season highlighted on youtube but not 08.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUqJsC0u2eQ

Josh Buchanan from Draft Daddy had him ranked as the 32nd small school prospect and had a 7th/PFA grade on him after his junior year, but now he has him as the 50th ranked small school prospect after injuring his hand his senior year and not playing much, now he is just ranked as a priority free agent.Edited by: dwid

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A pair of South Dakota State offensive linemen drew the attention of 13 NFLteams to their Pro Day workout, according to a league source.

AndCasey Bender and Casey Knips' results compare favorably to many of the top offensive line performances at the NFL scouting combine.

At 6-foot-7, 306 pounds, Knips, who has 34-inch arms, bench pressed 225 pounds 28 times. He turned in a 28-inch vertical leap and an 8-8 broad jump.

He ran the 40-yard dash between 5.1 and 5.2 seconds with a 4.75 in the short shuttle and a 7.8 three-cone drill.

Meanwhile, Bender (6-5, 296) had 33-inch arms and bench pressed 225 pounds 25 times with a 28-inch vertical leap. His 40-yard dash time ranged between 5.0 and 5.1 seconds.

He turned in a 4.56 short shuttle and a 7.5 three-cone drill.

according to this article (thanks DraftDaddy), Central Michigan's Bryan Anderson showed tremendous speed and agility at his pro day.

Two others that had solid showings were wide receiver Bryan Anderson and cornerback Josh Gordy.

Anderson posted a 4.49 40-yard dash to help his draft prospects as his speed was a big concern for NFL scouts. Anderson also ran a 6.36 in the 3-cone drill, which would have been one of the top times in the NFL Combine.

the link also has video of Dan LeFevour performing at the CMU pro day. he looked very good.

Some more great numbers. Even i'm surprised at the talent in this draft that just won't be getting a fair shot. Just pure craziness, what do these guys lack that makes them not worth drafting? Be very interesting to see how many of these guys end up in the CFL and UFL, and how many just disappear altogether.

As an aside Sports Illustrated.com have an interesting article on their homepage atm:
SI Article

It's about the stereotypes that are occurring in the league specifically towards Toby Gerhart and Myron Rolle as "the white runningback" and "the guy that's too smart for football". Interesting piece that alludes to the lack of white corners as well.

"I don't believe the people who doubt Gerhart can make it in the NFL are
racist or prejudiced in any way. In talking with a number of coaches and
scouts at many levels of football, I found the prevailing wisdom to be
that it is more of a subconscious bias based upon simply not seeing it
happen in a long time."

The fact that caste issues are now being examined in national press is impressive, hopefully it continues and more guys are given a shot as the "subconscious bias" is whittled away.

Also, will update front page over the weekend, keep the info coming!

Looking ahead to next year it appears that OT will be a very strong position for white players in college football and the draft. There should also be more white players on the d-line in 2011 and 2012.

Jared Crick could be the top rated defensive tackle next year.

Even Suh said Crick would be the "next Suh" & implied Jared was just as good as he. I appreciated the nod from Suh.

Dez Bryant has a poor workout but remains "elite." Big surprise:

Updating a previous item, Oklahoma State's Dez Bryant posted forty times of 4.52 and 4.68 at Tuesday's private workout in his hometown of Lufkin, Texas. Bryant ran a third time of 4.52 due to the discrepancy between the first two times. He also dropped some passes early in drills before settling down and "getting into the flow." Though Bryant's game tape remains elite, NFL Network's Mike Mayock says "more questions than answers" came out of the workout. He remains likely to be the first receiver off the board, however.

strikes again: Oklahoma State WR Dez Bryant reportedly forgot his cleats for Tuesday's workout, causing his numbers to drop while wearing shoes that hadn't been broken in. NFL Network's Mike Mayock pointed out during the workout that Bryant was slipping during his forty-yard dash. If the reports of a 4.32 forty during training last week are to be believed, Bryant would have run faster Tuesday if not for the slipping. Bryant posted highly impressive numbers in the vertical (38 inches) and broad jump (11'1"), but he didn't finish the short shuttle or the three-cone drill.Edited by: Don Wassall

Darrius Heyward-Bey the second, only with a worse attitude. I think that he would be a great fit with the Tampa Bay Bucs and their coal-blackness on both sides of the ball and the coaching staff. 0-16 baby!

Nick Ekbatani and Kyle harrington (both white) put on an outstanding display of raw strength and power by bench pressing 225 pounds for 42 and 43 reps respectively. Nick is from UCLa and Kyle is from UMASS. I believe those numbers are the most for the pro days so far. No black or samoan has come close to duplicating this feat at the pro days.

Also Trevor Theriot, fullback from UCLA and white, threw up 225 for 34 reps. This amount was very impressive for his size.

Very impressive for a FB. 225x34 was my max* (at 6'8, 270). * = Had I been juiced up like our afflete "buddies", I'm sure I could have cranked out 40+.

Sorry to taint this excellent thread with affletic idiocy, but Dez Bryant is just too rich. He's fully equipped with the black whining and persecution complex when in reality he's been given the red carpet treatment to the NFL for a number of years. I'd love to know what his IQ and Wonderlic scores are:

Oklahoma State WR Dez Bryant lashed out at his skeptics to the Associated Press following his Tuesday Pro Day, insisting the criticism "has gone too far" and saying "he ain't never got in trouble with nobody." "I don't say anything wrong to nobody. I'm friendly. This...is too far," he said. "Even if I did forget my cleats, what do that have to do with me playing football? ... Y'all don't want me to go to the NFL? It is going to happen. God blessed me to have this ability to play this game. ... I feel like I'm going through the same situation Randy Moss did." He also defended Pacman Jones. "Why down talk the man?" Bryant said of Pacman. "The man did everything right."
