Dr. Ben Carson, new GOP black 'hero'?

‘60 Minutes’ had a profile/hagiography on Dr. Ben Carson. Two things stood out. One is his mother quit her job to go on welfare so she could raise her two sons unencumbered. I’ve never heard anything about Dr. Carson repaying taxpayers for his mother’s fecklessness (fraud really) a la ‘Cinderella Man’. Very different from the current embellishment his mother worked two and three jobs to support them.

Of course Carson has paid a lot in taxes, so maybe it’s a wash. And he’s saved lives, which brings up the next point.

A seven-year-old girl with severe epilepsy was brought in. Dr. Carson specialized in a surgery which separated the brain hemispheres giving patients, the younger the better, chance for a cure. The father asked if someone else could do the surgery. Dr. Carson’s white colleague, in Dr. Carson’s presence, told the father to take his daughter away. While telling this story on '60 Minutes’ Dr. Carson, the white colleague and the reporter (Mike Wallace I believe) were all smugness and self-regard. That white father was taught a lesson. A teachable moment.

But what of the seven-year-old girl? Did she die soon thereafter, or have her life cut short, because of Dr. Carson’s refusal to treat her? Severe epileptics tend to have brief lives. David Axelrod, the political consultant, has a daughter with severe epilepsy. Though born with normal intelligence his daughter has become very limited mentally and does not have much of a life expectancy. Saving just one person and one family from this fate would be invaluable.

Dr. Carson has decided to retire next year at age 62. Not reduce his workload or take a teaching position. But retire. Stress that he sees in other surgeons is to blame. His perogative. It’s not like he owes society anything. And it’s not like he owed a forgotten seven-year-old girl anything.

On a general note, I think the GOP can & does benefit from having hard-working, socially conservative Blacks in it's ranks. But the constant  search for a Black GOP hero is boring..

If Blacks who work hard & wanna retain their wealth want to vote Republican, more power to them. There is nothing preventing them from doing that. Blacks are welcomed in the GOP. It's embarassing watching White Republicans stumble over themselves to recruit Black & Latin voters. Let Republican idealogy speak for itself. Some will come, some won't.

Black conservatives are generally like unicorns or sasquatches. Upon closer inspection, the myth doesn't hold up. For the record, a "conservative" in the West is one who want to preserve and promote Western civilization. There is a tiny fraction of a percentage of blacks in our midst, in OUR country, who are quietly glad they live among us and not solely among their own kind. Calling them conservatives stretches the definition.

As for "Republican ideology," pathetic pandering is the lamestream Hannitized dittoheads' creed.

I said 'socially conservative', meaning Blacks who will not support gay marriage, feminist agendas, etc. It was socially conservative Blacks that helped pass prop 8 in California in 08, which obviously is an otherwise very Liberal state and group of voters.

AP exit polls showed that 70% of Black Califonians supported prop 8, as opposed to 50% of Whites.. meaning Blacks were more in line with the traditional (Western), conservative view of heterosexual marriage than Whites..These kind of voters can help Republicans on some issues.
I never implied (or expect) that Blacks will flood into the Republican ranks.. I'm saying that the sales pitch to Blacks can be race-neutral, instead of pandering to them, which alienates a lot of their White working class support..

Your response came right on cue tho, I just recently posted something on Caste Footballs' keyboard commandos, who always have an angry, cynical take on everything and patronize ppl who don't share that view. It's more important for you guys to vent, than consider different perspectives. For whatever it's worth, just consider that Blacks who reject the self-defeating welfare mentality of Demon-crats, may be a help to Republicans on race-neutral policies like fair tax, 2nd amendment, etc. & if you're politically active keep that in mind in your efforts.

When most negroes pull the lever for an elected official, the ONLY thing that matters is that person is negro. The black politician could support same sex marriage, late term abortion on demand, be anti Christian and taxes on everyone. A religious negro will vote for him time and time again. Wala I give you Barack Obama. Approx 98% of blacks voted for a man who supported almost everything they opposed, except skin color. F'ing racist they are.

fair enough brother,.. but the Obama vote was unique because he was the first brotha' to be on a major party ticket for Pres.
Blacks of all stripes set aside their views and voted strictly as an ethnic bloc. Most were happy to see a brotha' in that position & didn't/still don't care what his qualifications were. And so did a lot of White Liberals, so Blacks don't have a monopoly on this stupidity.

What the Republicans can do tho is start running Black Republicans against Black Demon-crats in regional, local races where Black Ds have destroyed White Rs. Even if they dont win those elections, it will allow the Republican party to pitch it's message, while neutralizng some of the Black vs White perceptions of Blacks who may be receptive to Republican really race-neutral messaging on 2nd amendment, fair tax, etc.. but bcuz of their anti-White bigotry won't (or haven't) voted for a White R.
Again, I'm not saying the GOP should be running an Al Sharpton-Herman Cain ticket, I'm saying modest gains can make a difference in some elections.

ps- there was a just a poll in VA, that VA's Republican governor is seeing approval gains in Virginia, w/Black Virginians, so it's not impossible.. have to see how that would translate in future voting (?). He can't run for gov. himself again tho, VA has a single term limit.

Funny that you should assure my post was made in anger. Whatever cynicism I have toward the GOP comes from experience. Not just decades of observation, which would be enough, but also hands on experience.

There is an old joke that, like most humor, is only funny because it is true:

Q: What do you call a black guy at a Republican convention?

A: Keynote speaker.

A black guy like Dr. Carson says a few sensible things, and quite a few more-or-less deracinated Republican types are ready to make him a leading presidential contender. It is symptom of a deeper problem, which is white "conservative" capitulation to leftwing dogma on race.

I can't (& won't) challenge your personal experience w/the GOP. & you're right about the die-versity narrative unfortunately taking over every level of our society.

My original point is that Blacks can have a place in the Republican party. It's a slanderous strategy, that Democrats have successfully used to isolate Black simpletons.. by saying that the GOP doesn't want hard-working, socially conservative Blacks in the Republican ranks. The opposite is true, the GOP is going to embarrassing lengths to recruit those kind of voters..

Similar with women, the GOP needs White women (they want Blacks, but need women).. & Demon-crats have waged another successful campaign to divide White women against their White husbands & fathers. Men who have a shared destiny with these women.

If you feel that there are no conservative Blacks to be found, so be it.. But I'm politically active, I don't subscribe to that blanket cynicism. I hate militant anti-White Blacks & their self-hating liberal White enablers.. but what about the Ben Carsons (?) I wont put the sins of other Black morons, on a guy who may be a help to conservatism.. that's all.

If we we're talking about a populist White political movement, Carson has no place in it.. but the Republican party isn't that.. it's what we presently have (for worse, or worse) to resist the Democrats.. and don't you believe cynicism is rooted in anger (?) Anger is useful if utilized right, but I hear never-ending, 'I'm giving up' type anger in this site, so.. it's weak & boring. (peace)

Does GOP outreach to MLK, Frederick Douglas and Jackie Robinson Republicans include ending Affirmative Action? Do not racial quotas reflect the soft bigotry of low expectations? I guess not.

Can't control the border because it offends Hispanics and can't end AA because it offends AAs.

And doesn't concurrent pandering cancel itself out? How does Rand Paul speaking Spanish appeal to blacks? How does an endless parade of black hopefuls excite Hispanics? And why is it all the Hispanic Repubs are Cuban?

I'm holding out hope for the Malcolm X Republicans. Based upon the scene in Spike Lee's 'Malcolm X' where a young white woman breathlessly asks Mr. X what white people can do to help. He thinks for a moment and replies, 'Nothing.'

Can do. I can certainly do nothing. I am perfectly motivated and qualified to do nothing to advance whatever cause it is blacks want advanced. And isn't that the highest compliment to give anyone, from young child to senior citizen, that he or she can do it themselves?

But no, we have to help. We have to care. Compassion. Empathy. Feelings, nothing more than feelings.

'Get your hand out of my pocket!'
