His defense has improved greatly in the last few years as well ,although it is unlikely that you will hear that from Kenny Smith or Charles Barkley.

As good as the Mavs are with Dirk,I still wish they had a player like Nash to get him the ball more.He has to create alot of his shots off the dribble. Not exactly an easy thing to do at 7 feet tall.Nowitzki is an amazing dribbler though for his size and knows how to get his shot off against anyone. He is the most exciting player that I have watched since Larry Bird.

Well, Dirk had a big time double double tonight in a lopsided win over the Lakers. 26 points and 12 rebounds to lead the team in both categories. Dallas is 38-10 right now.

Dirk is my favorite athlete. I still remember the day that Dallas drafted him and acquired Steve Nash from the Suns. The crowd at the arena on draft day booed the mavericks as drafting and trading for "two white stiffs". Only the caste system could cause a self-hating reaction like that. Steve with his mvp play has finally earned his respect. Dirk if he can carry his team over the hump(spurs) and get to the championship series will finally get the respect from the TNT crew he deserves. The Mavs are the hottest team in the league right now and have won 12 straight games and they destroyed the pistons in their only meeting so far by at least 25 points. I know they have only two white players on their team getting any meaningful playing time but Van Horn is a important player off the bench and Dirk is their best player and leader. This should be a team that CF roots for. Avery Johnson is a decent coach and a great guy as well.

I will go with the Mavs vs the Heat in the NBA Finals but that is a long time away.I agree with Dirk for the MVP of the Nba Finals once they get there.

White Lightning...Why do you think the Heat will make it to the finals...I think the heat's record against the top 5 is 1 win..6 losses.. I'm not saying that they don't have the talent but it just seems to me that the pistons are significantly better. Despite their loss a couple of days ago to the heat..wade is not likely to play that way all the time and Shac isn't getting any younger or thinner.

I agree that the Pistons are a little better but Wade is a very gifted player. He just knows how to lead a team.Shaq still cannot be stopped down low.I think they will rest him as much as possible until they make their playoff run.I just can't see the Pistons doing it again.Someone else will rise up and get to the finals.I guarantee it.

Dirk is my MVP for the league this year, especially if they are the #1 seed in the west. And yes definitely, go Pacers!

I think he already a better scorer than Larry the legend. I'm not saying Dirk is a better player, but he just can score at will on the inside and outside. He reminds me of a healthy Bill Walton.......

I'm not so sure Walton is the best comparison to Dirk. For one thing Dirk is a much better outside shooter and has much more range than a "healthy Walton" and I have never heard a stupid thing come out of Nowitzki's mouth! I don't think Walton can say the same thing. He majors on stupid comments. Example: saying repeatedly that "steve nash is not a great athlete, slow . can't jump...etc...."

Hey now ease up on the Walton jokes here. There's nothing wrong with a little Mary Jane and some Jerry Garcia.

The Dallas Mavericks and MVP Dirk Nowitzki are dismantaling the Spurs as we speak. Let's see if Barkley and the TNT crew(halftime) finally give them respect. I'm tired of the no defence moniker attached to dirk all the time. He plays good team defence and blocks his fair number of shots. he also moves his feet real well for a 7 footer.

I should know better after about 20 years of watching the NBA to celebrate a 12 point lead in the 2nd period. The spurs came back and beat the mavs tonight. Man is that Bruce Bowen a ferocious defender. Some would say dirty. I just think he is good.

Yeah Bill proabably experimented a little but that doesn't take away from what a great player he was.

I have no problem with people smoking weed. I know most people on this site hate Bill Walton as an anownser but I actually find him intertaining.

Dirk has been on a tear again since the all star game.He had 37 points the other night.Even his Coach said on national tv that any MVP Talk should include Dirk. The record of the Mavs speaks for itself.Keep it up Nowitzki!

Even that idiot Charles Barkely said last night that Dirk and Nash were the top two MVP picks.
