The bad news is Price lost to a 41 year old who probably only showed up to collect a paycheque.

The good news is that this makes Wlad look that much better.

I still don't know what to make of Price. I still have high hopes for him. He won the first round and had Thompson in a bit of trouble. At the start of the second round I actually thought Price would have Thompson out of there by the fourth or fifth round. The punch that put him down wasn't anything special, I'm surprised it stunned him so badly.

Many of the DWF's are calling Price a fraud. His best bet is to rematch Thompson and hopefully Thompson agrees. I think he can bet him but he needs to be patient. That's one of the reasons Wladimir Klitschko is so good. His combination of size, athleticism, power, speed(fastest big heavyweight in boxing history), patience, and intelligence are just too much for any fighter to overcome.

Price had a similar stoppage loss in Beijing to Cammarelle. What I don't like about what happened on Saturday is that in the pros when a fighter is fresh and is wobbly after beating the count a referee usually gives him the benefit of the doubt. Here is his loss in Beijing.....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmZUHgVVuH8

I agree. The fight shouldn't have been stopped. Price didn't look that bad. The ref should have gave him a chance and if he couldn't recover and protect himself, then stop the fight.

I would not go so far as call him a fraud. That is not appropriate because Price, to my knowledge, does not profess to be champion of anything. And rightfully so.

I wonder what his expectations are? I doubt he could survive many 12 round fights with hard hitters of the top 10 ranks. He does not know how to keep the smaller fighter out of range and he can't take a punch. His lack of punch resistance explains why he paws so much: his instinct is to push his opponent away.

The word is out: hit him hard and he'll fall. I suspect he his trying to set up a big fight worth millions knowing he could never be or last as a champion. In boxing, we can correct many skill problems but a weak chin cannot be fixed.

He's nowhere near done. It's not like he lost to a B level fighter like Tye Fields when he was knocked out by Monte Barrett. Thompson is a legit top 10 heavyweight right now. Still, I am in shock that the punch got him down like that. It wasn't anything special. He certainly has a chin issue and there is no denying that.

Look at how Wladimir Klitschko learned from his early losses. Price can do the same. It's 50/50 right now whether he makes it or doesn't.

"Price's KO to Thompson was a 'freak stoppage' after world title hopeful suffered perforated eardrum"

This ear drum injury is hearsay. We have no proof of this, we have Maloney reporting this as fact. If Price's injury is real, and it may be, he still has a problem with his jab that requires him being taken out behind the shed and bull whipped until he learns how to use it like a rapier -like Wladimir and Pulev. Once he has corrected his jab, he needs to watch videos of himself and be informed that he is a very tall and needs to take advantage of that and learn to fight tall. I would teach him to fight like light heavyweight Sergey Kovalev. If he could fight like Kovalev, as Wladimir can, he could be untouchable. The persisting problem is he has no trainer who will teach him and discipline him -he won't even talk to me.

How do you know the ear drum injury wasn't the case? The goal here is to support white athletes and we should give Price the benefit of the doubt for now.

That's a pretty radical thing to lie about.

But -

"'That right hook hit him flush on the ear and you could tell the ear-drum had been perforated because water came spurting out."

"Water came spurting out"!? That sounds horrible. I never heard of such a thing before, did you? What water is there inside the ear that could come spurting out? According to the Mayo Clinic website the symptoms of a perforated/ruptured eardrum include "Clear, pus-filled or bloody drainage from your ear". Drainage, not spurting. Perhaps he (or the reporter) just used the wrong words.

But again - Price seemed fine in his post fight interview. No mention of an ear problem, nor did he seem in distress from ear fluid, ear pain, etc. So I don't know.

Also I don't disagree with you about the jab, etc., except he's not going to have a jab like Wladimir. Nobody is.

Are you in the business?

Can't fault Frank Baloney for trying to salvage his investment. But this fight takes me back (unfortunately) to the Duane Bobick 72 second or whatever it was debacle against Ken Norton. After the fight Bobick said he caught a freak shot to his throat that pretty much paralyzed him. I wanted to believe that explained his piss poor performance, but it was only a harbinger of flops to come. He just didn't have it, as Price likely doesn't either. Not that I don't want him to keep trying, and I'd be happy to have him prove me wrong.

By the way, it seems that an uppercut right off a nifty Thompson move before the slappy right upside the head is what may have really been the culprit.

If I'm training Price I tape his right hand to his right shoulder and show him tapes of Vlad using his jab and have him work on his left hand alone for the next three months. His right hand is a beaut, but it needs a partner.

Bobick had solid skills. His problem was his jaw. It was more fragule that Tommy Morrisions. Once a 200 lbs tapped his jaw with a good shot, it was over.

I train amateur boxers, and some MMA guys that make nothing but put too much of their time into that sport (fighting for $100.00 a round doesn't pay for coffee).

Whatever Tommy was, he should have been smarter with his money. He ended up like scrap metal. The only reason anyone should be fighting at all is for the money. It is prize fighting after all. If I had a world beater under contract with me, I would fight for the most money and let the "champions" have their belts. I would fight the belt holders outside of their belts at these mythical "catchweights" and privately sanction the fights.

Too true - and then when they get hurt - when, not if, because who doesn't eventually get hurt to one extent or another in rough sports like these? - no insurance, no $100, no nothing.

The Thompson rematch is very important for Price's career.Price has all the firepower in the world, probably no other heavies outside the Klitschkos hit harder but to say his chin is weak is an understatement.Thompson is a very cunning experienced fighter,in the first fight Price hurt Thompson slightly in the second round but Thompson was peering through his guard waiting for his opportunity.Price can win this rematch if he gets behind his jab and boxes a smart tactical fight. It will be interesting to see what happens and it wont be easy for Price.

Tony Thompson looks terrible. I always say, he looks like a typical old black crackhead. Price needs to redeem himself.
