Though he had what could be consider a disappointing 2012 season, Indianapolis Colts tight end Coby Fleener will have a breakout 2013 after getting more familiar with the game speed of the NFL. and he will have another familiar face on the sidelines in new offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton.

Hamilton was at the Stanford University Cardinal offensive coordinator so it will be beneficial to Fleener and also quarterback Andrew Luck.

Fleener is 6′ 6″ 250 lbs, with large bear claw like hands. Despite this, in nine starts this past season he only had 26 catches for 281 yards and two touchdown receptions. However with Hamilton calling the offense, that number could shoot up like old faithful in Yellowstone National Park to maybe double digit touchdowns with 800 yards receiving and 70 catches.

With Fleener catching a lot more balls, Andrew Luck’s completion percentage should break 60 percent at least. Having Fleener become a legit catching threat and have defenses become forced to prepare for him will be difficult because of the mismatches caused by Fleerer’s size and speed. Linebackers won’t be able to keep up with him, and DBs will be pulled out of coverage.

What else will help Fleener in 2013 is more and more opposing team’s defenses will focus first on the other tight end that broke out this year in Dwayne Allen as he had 45 catches, 521 receiving yards and three touchdown. Frankly with all these improvements in 2013 including becoming more experienced, the sky is the limit for Coby Fleener and nothing will stop him.

Now is his chance to lockup the #1 spot moving forward. His competition is having season ending surgery.

they keep putting him down saying they will struggle because he can't block. When is the last time we had a White te that couldnt block? he is just used more as a hybrid te/wr because he is such a mismatch, why waste him blocking all of the time.

    From weenieworld:

Coby Fleener caught four passes for 77 yards and one touchdown in the Colts' Week 9 win over the Giants.

Fleener drew a team-high 11 targets. He entered the game with just 31 targets across the first eight games, so obviously we don't advise chasing this. While Fleener caught a 32-yard touchdown after making a juggling catch on the previous play, we still saw much of the Fleener we've come to know. He had a ball bounce off his head in the end zone and had another one whizz by him when he failed to adjust to it in the air. He's not a good football player. Nov 4 - 12:56 AM

Compared to the latest on Dwayne Allen:
Dwayne Allen caught four passes for 48 yards and one touchdown in the Colts' Week 9 win over the Giants.
Allen, as always, made the most of his five targets. A tremendous all-around football player, Allen now has seven touchdowns heading into the Colts' Week 10 bye. His two-yard touchdown Monday night was as easy as they come. On play-action, Andrew Luck hit a wide-open Allen standing in the end zone. He's an every-week TE1 thanks to his scoring potential in the Indy offense.

So I guess Fleener who has very similar stats to Allen sucks and Allen is tremendous. Fleener is 3 inches taller and much faster Allen who timed a 4.95 at the combine while Fleener timed a 4.46

Fleener can't catch or block - then why did Toby Gerhart (who also can't run) do so well with Fleener blocking and catching at Stanford?

The athletic combination of Fleener and Josh Hill (who could be a Travis Kelce-like talent) should be a great duo to watch in 2016. Finally, I might be able to root for "Zulu" Drew Brees again! :D

I'll be surprised if Fleener doesn't have a big year, especially with Brandin Cooks now with the Patriots. This could be the year he joins Gronkowski, Witten, Olsen and Barnidge as White tight ends who have gone over one thousand receiving yards in recent years after a 20 year drought when there were none.

Coby Fleener needed a year to learn Saints' offense
New Orleans Saints tight end Coby Fleener expects to be "more effective" now that he's had a year to learn the offense.

    WHAT IT MEANS:
Fleener still managed 50 catches last season in his first taste of the New Orleans offense, but he didn't live up to the expectations of a five-year, $36 million contract. The 28-year-old faced a steep learning curve in his first year with the Saints. "I think anytime you’re trying to learn a new offense, trying to learn a language... going through it for a year really helps," he said.

Fleener came in 13th in Reception Net Expected Points per target among the 32 tight ends to see at least 50 targets in 2016.

I was surprised the Saints did not split Coby out wide last year in similar fashion as they had with Jimmy Graham. Maybe this year!
