Hello Gents,

Here is an interesting slant to add weight to our argument.

It would take a while but a way to prove the existence of the caste system to the non-believer is to get the % of White WR's who fit into the category of Cinderella Story and made it all the way to the NFL.

For example, the Cinderella Story could be a Walk-on in college, Free Agent in NFL or small school success story making it in the pros(i.e. no large school would offer the receiver a scholarship)

If we then take this as a % of Whites WR's that are on NFL rosters then we get the Cinderella %. This would be a good way to explain to the caste deniers that the caste system exists.

Lets all use our knowledge to document the current Cinderella Stories that are alive in NFL. I will start it off

Kevin Curtis-Walk on Utah State

Wes Welker-Free Agent from Texas Tech

Mike Furrey-Walk on Ohio State who got playing time as FRESHMAN but no scholarship and had to move to Northern Iowa and then spent time at Safety at Rams before succeeding on the Lions

Drew Bennett-Free Agent for Titans

David Kircus-unhearalded out of Grand Valley State and cut and spent a year in subway despite avg 20 yrds catch rookie year and then cut!

Help me out here but just WR's and on active roster for this study..

Drew Bennett walked-on to UCLA.

Kevin Kasper walked-on to Iowa before becoming their all-time best receiver and setting 3 speed records at the NFL combine.

Chris Horn played at Rocky Mountain College before dominating the Arena League and playing in the NFL. it doesn't get much smaller than that.

Sean Morey is still in the League as a wide receiever. He played at Brown in the Ivy League.

Jeremy Bloom walked-on at Colorado, i believe.

and Mike Hass walked-on at Oregon State, as well.

Tom Crowder, now out of football, was a walk-on at the University of Arkansas where he was the fastest player on the team. he signed a free-agent contract with the Cowboys where he spent 2 years on their practice squad before going to NFLEurope and playing well. he was the fastest player on the Cowboys' roster, but he might not be high-profile enough to enter into your figures.

also, Brock Forsey walked-on at Boise State before setting all their records, but of course he's a tailback. Edited by: Jimmy Chitwood

man, if you're wanting to keep it to guys who are on the active 53-man roster, the list is gonna be real short... in fact, i just went to NFL.com to confirm who was on the official two-deep, and we've already got 'em all. unbelievable!

did CSU's David Anderson get drafted?

Yes, David Anderson is a 7th rounder and is on active and we can't say Cinderella as he went to Colorado State so he will have to go with Stokely/Jones etc

I will do the % tomorrow is someone else here is bored, but it looks like around 60% Cinderella Story, unbelievable..

Well, I'm trying to put together some of my own research for an English paper on the topic of the caste system in football. I actually went through and put together the numbers the best I could. Listed on NFL.com are approximately 250 wide receivers total. I found all the white players on that list and some that were missed (I included practice squad guys and people who were cut recently, as many as I could remember anyway). Out of the aprrox. 27 white wide receivers I could find in the NFL I found that 12 (44%) were college walk-ons. Pretty insane huh? I'd bet DB produces similar numbers.

What were the other 15? From small colleges?Did you findany white receivers who received a scholarship to a major I-A program?

1A Scholarships (I couldn't find any mention of these guys being walk-ons): David Anderson, Tim Dwight, Jeremy Bloom, Matt Jones, Joe Jurevicius, Chase Lyman, John Standeford, Brandon Stokley, Kevin Walter, and Wes Welker (he got the last scholarship available after another player backed out at the last minute). So 10 out of 27 received 1A scholarships. It's funny to me that big time football states like Texas and Florida have only 1 white WR in the NFL between them (Welker).

I'm sure Jones got his scholarship to play QB. Kevin Walter's from a small program, same with Stokley (his father was the head coach). So maybe 7 out of 27 got I-A scholarships, though some of them may also have been walk-ons.

I'm almost sure Jones did get a scholarship for QB at UA, but my brain is so out of it tonight, I can't remember from the conversation I had with Jimmy Chitwood about this very topic just a couple of hours ago.

I'm glad I have a break this week. I know he finished high school at a school that let him play QB. Anyway, ask him to be sure.

So maybe six white wide receivers have gotten scholarships from major I-A programs over the past decade or so, maybesome more than that who didn't amount to anything in college. We're probably talking about an average ofroughly two white wide receivers in the entire country getting a scholarship from a big school each year compared to how many blacks -- several hundred?

yep, Jones was signed to play QB at Arkansas. Stokley played at a directional school in Louisiana, but it was Div IA, although barely. it seems like Bloom walked on to the team at Colorado as well... but i'm not sure.
