This guy should have won the mcdonalds high school dunk contest, but he came in second place. His final dunk was an in between the legs reverse, and the black guy that won, just did a windmill off the bounce and got a perfect score

He is the talk of the town both in California and out here in Arizona where he will be playing next year.Lute Olson has already said that there is a possibility that Chase could end up being the best player he has ever coached. This kid is a freakish athlete with incredible talent.Picture Henry Bekkering with the game to go with it.He will be a starter as a freshman at the U of A and that is no small task. The U of A Wildcats put more people in the NBA than any other school. He will be a star for years to come!

The Dunk Contest was a total rip off.The other kids missed dunks and no one attempted any even remotely close to what Chase was doing. He is a incredible Volleball Player to but the money is in basketball. This kid will be in the NBA within two years. His athleticism is stunning!Way to go Chase. He also won the Co MVP for the All Star Game.

Yeah I heard he's even more highly rated as a volleyball player than basketball and thats pretty darn good considering how highly rated hs is at bball. Chase looked like the real deal during last nights McDonalds All American game and will be a star with the Wildcats.

He had two great dunks, but he should've been a little more creative with his final dunk. It was just okay. What I liked the most was that everybody was rooting for him, big time. Obviously he was the "hometown kid," but the announcers were gushing over him, too. It's so refreshing to see positive feeling toward a white player.

here's the direct link to the thread. it's worth the wait. i especially like his passing ability.

http://forum.goazcats.com/showthread.php?t=47277

and here's what nbadraft.net had tp say about him:

Chase Budinger: 11 pts, 5-8 fg, 1-4 3pt, 3 rebs, 3 stls, 4 asts and 1 to (21 min.)

Finishing in second place with 58 to Gerald Henderson's perfect 60, Budinger got robbed on the dunk contest which was sort of ironic considering this was his hometown and he had the crowd behind him.

His final dunk through the legs was way more impressive than Gerald Henderson's windmill (which had scored a perfect 60 moments earlier), however his showmanship and body language, particularly after the second attempt and make, was not as spectacular as the dunks themselves which is sort of reflective of his unassuming personality.

Budinger is actually a higher rated volleyball player than basketball player and hopes to play for the US Olympic team.

The biggest improvement in his game has been his perimeter shooting. He has put in a lot of work in the gym and it's showing with his ability to hit shots in games and also create for himself.

Budinger shows tremendous reflexes, stealing one outlet pass from point blank range, and feeding a teammate inside for a lay in. He attributes volleyball as making him a quicker and better basketball player.

He also made a drive around Oden on a break shielding the ball with his body and making a smooth lay in in the first half. In the second half he had a great rebound in traffic and led the break finding a wide open Durant with a beautiful no look pass for a lay in.

Chase had a tremendous game with great stats across the board, but Durant deserved it, so sharing the MVP award was likely due to his dunk contest snub. Budinger should be an instant star at Arizona.

Does anyone else think this kid has an excellent shot for freshman of the year next season. I mean seeing as how he played so well in the McDonalds AA game and his athletic ability there is no reason other than 7 footer Greg Oden why he can't be.

They have a descent article in Slam Magazine about Chase. They compare him to guys like T-Mac,Nowitzki and a few others. It talks about how he was good enough to go to UCLA and play both sports but he chose to go to the U of A and focus on basketball. With his size, speed, shooting ability, passing, and incredible hops, this kid could change the way people see the game.He is a total stud.He has a 40 inch vertical and will take it to the rim on anyone. He backs that up with incredible shooting.I can't wait to see him playing for the Wildcats!

Let's be real Budinger has a looong way to go to become a complete
basketball player. Right now he's a helluva a lot closer to Darren Han*******
than he is LeBron James.

First off,I didn't say he was Lebron James or anyone even close yet but he has the potential to be a star player on any team.He averaged over 33 points a game in high school in Cali. That is pretty special in my book.Coach Lute Olsen of the U of A Wildcats has went on record saying that this kid could be the best player to ever wear a Wildcats Uniform!Think of the compliment a hall of fame coach is paying this kid.He will start right away and will be the best player on the court immediatley. They say he will make Hassan Adams look horrible compared to how good Chase is.I can't wait to see this kid lead the Cats to a Final Four in the next few years.

Here is a great interview with Chase. They even ask him if he might go to the NBA after one season. There are two pics of him with one of them being him in the Dunk Contest. It's a really cool pic and shows just how high he gets. Can we say even higher than Brent Barry and that is saying something.I can't wait for the season.

Chase has been named as one of 6 impact players for this upcoming season by ESPN's Andy Katz. he's the only white guy on the list, though.
Why he will make news: Budinger has a look about him that will draw attention. He has the curly hair -- tightly cropped now but with the potential to mushroom out -- a goatee (at least early in the season) and a game that is all over the court.

Budinger could be one of the top freshmen ever to play at Arizona. He is being talked about as one of the "special" recruits for Lute Olson. He's a scorer and will get plenty of chances on a roster that is youthful and wants to get up and down. He's not Adam Morrison, but he'll certainly draw the attention of folks who want to watch a player who is so active on the court.

How he will make an impact: Budinger will be a major factor on a potential Final Four team. He can score on a team that will need a small forward who can be a mismatch for opposing teams. Budinger, paired with Jawann McClellan, Ivan Radenovic and Mustafa Shakur, gives the Wildcats a potential go-to player. He won't be the first option, but he could easily have nights where he is the featured hot hand. His defense will come around, but he's on the floor to score and make plays on the offensive end.

Headline games: This is Arizona, remember? Olson doesn't shy away from putting his players on a national stage. Budinger and the rest of his mates go to Virginia to open the Cavs' new building, and games against New Mexico State, UNLV, Illinois in Phoenix, Louisville in the Jimmy V Classic in New York, at San Diego State, Houston, Memphis and North Carolina, let alone Pac-10 games against UCLA and Washington, should give Budinger plenty of opportunities to make headlines.

Doug Gottlieb's take: While many saw Adam Morrison as the next Larry Bird, let's be honest: Bird had several inches and a bit more game than Ammo. Nonetheless, if those comparisons can stick with a player his entire career, then here is one: Budinger is the next Tom Chambers. With high-flying springs from his volleyball background and an innate basketball IQ, there are many in Tucson who believe Lute Olson may hang around awhile to see if Budinger can lead his Cats back to the Final Four.

and some aerial phots of Chase...

Doug Gottlieb, the Jewelry stealing punk (booted from Notre Dame) -- of
all the high-flying athletes in NBA history, you compare Chase to Tom
Chambers. Closed-minded clown.

Chase won the University of Arizona Midnight Madness Slam Dunk Contest. This kid is going to light it up this year.

Hey GreatLakeState. Why don't you like Tom Chambers.I'm not comparing Chase to him but that would be a pretty good compliment if you ask me.Chambers was the man for the Suns averaging 25 points a game in his first year and over 27 points a game in his second year.Tom Chambers was a high flyer who could dunk and score with the best of them.Did you hate Chambers for some reason?
I'm just curious.

I don't have anything against Tom Chanbers. He was a very talented
player, rare athlete for 6-10. I just find it odd that Gottlieb had to pick
another white guy to compare Budinger to. Why not Dominque Wilkins?
Or Julius Erving? Or James Worthy?

Totalally agree GLS. Doug did a poor job of just picking a white guy to compare to another white guy. Chambers was a great player so its definitly a complement to get compared to him. However if you look at the playing styles of Chase and Tom you realize that about the only thing they have in common is their skin color.

Chase had 24 points and 9 rebounds in his most recent game.Coach Olson praised him for being all over the floor and doing a little bit of everything. He also said that Chase could average around 15 rebounds a game if he concentrated on that more as he is one of the quickest jumpers that he has ever seen.He just explodes off the floor. This kid is going to really be special.

The Wildcats won again tonight against Memphis. They are ranked 9th in the nation and moving up very quickly.Chase had 18 points in the win.He is so smooth that he makes it look effortless. It's nice to see this kids game from above the rim.

Chase had an awesome second half, scoring 16 points in rallying Arizona. Radenovic also played well and Arizona is going to be a tough team to beat come tournament time.

Budinger scored 30 points today to go with 10 rebounds in a huge victory for the Wildcats. He is just getting better all of the time.I want to see him showcase his skills in the tournament.U of A needs to win 3 of their final 5 games to extend their March Madness Streak to 23 years in a row!

Just curious are Greg Oden and Kevin Durant significantly outperforming Chase? Because SI did articles on Oden and Durant "The Year of the Freshman" and left out Chase. Also Nbadraft.net only has Chase as the 8th pick. I don't really follow much until March Madness. Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins
