BYU jr. CB Nate Soelberg placed third behind two other white guys(John Woods, Drew Moreno) in Mountain West indoor T&F Champs for 60 meter dash.. No one can claim the guy lacks speed to play in the NFL. He might be the fastest player in college football or at least in the hunt. Funny when watching BYU games don't recall anouncers ever mentioning his speed. Does ESPN have a law in place that says never under any circumstances refer to a white guy as being fast?

Actually Nate placed second behind Woods with 6.86 time.. Moreno came in fourth behind a white frosh from Air Force ,Travis Picou. Top four guys were white. Lets celebrate.

We need to post that in the track section.I have known
about Nate for a long time.I should have posted it.Do
you remember Luke Staleys brother? He played cb for BYU
at the same time Luke was running back. You talk about
an athletic family.Nate Soelberg should insist that he
stays at cb when he jumps to the nfl.The only other
switch he should ever consider would be to be another
wide receiver in the same mold as K.Curtis of the Rams.
I personally would rather see him be the next Sehorn.

I can't wait to see Nate play for BYU this fall. It will be fun. I'll try to keep track of him once I'm out there.

I would love to see Soelberg get to play at the wide
receiver position sometimes. He would have a better
chance of getting drafted in a year and making a
impact. This kid has world class speed.

The problem with Soelberg wasn't his speed it was his size. They said hewasn't big enough to press the bigger guys. I think he could eventually develope into a pretty good corner eventually though, he just needs time.

Watching Nate run track has been fun.He really can flat
out fly.Byu is crazy to not let this kid touch the ball
on offense.Soelberg is a really exciting corner and
with his ability,he should be All Mountain West this
year.Go Cougars.

I can't wait to see BYU open their home season. By the way, they are using old style uniforms this year. Same dark blue and white, but in the pre-1999 style. Just thought I'd give you a heads up.

Nate had a tough Senior season, but proved himself up to the task of being a good Division 1A college cornerback. I just found out he was put on the 2005 All-Mayday Team. Here's the article.

Soelberg Named to All-Mayday Team
by Kyle Chilton, BYU Athletic Communications

PROVO, Utah (Jan. 9, 2006) -- BYU cornerback Nate Soelberg was named to the ESPN All-Mayday team for his demonstration of toughness throughout the 2005 season. Members of the All-Mayday Team were selected based on mental and physical toughness, determination and high pain tolerance.

ESPN college football sportscaster Marc May selected the All-Mayday Team. May is a former All-America offensive tackle and Outland Trophy recipient at the University of Pittsburgh, a College Football Hall of Famer and NFL veteran. ESPN researcher Brett Edgerton said the All-Mayday Team represents "...the toughest of the tough."

Soelberg, a senior from West Valley City, Utah, suffered a broken wrist against Boston College in the first game of the season. He started the next five games with a cast on his arm and was one of the team's top tacklers before suffering a compound fracture in his other arm against Colorado State, forcing him to miss the rest of the regular season.

Soelberg was able to recuperate and play in the Pioneer PureVision Las Vegas Bowl against California on Dec. 22, 2005. For the season, he recorded 35 tackles, including 2.0 for a combined loss of five yards.

While Soelberg has exhausted his football eligibility, he is preparing for the track season where he will compete in the 100 meters and 60 meters.

Good question, backrow. I would say they are slim, since he was hurt most of the year. He won't get a shot at CB, I can tell you that. Maybe a tryout at safety, KR, or WR. If he had been healthy all year, he might have a better shot.

I suspect he either plays CB in the NFL or doesn't make it. I don't see him playing safety. He just does not grade out at other positions. He is a supremely sleek athlete and has great speed and fluidity. Hope he gets invited to the combine. Might be fastest gut there if fully recovered from injury.
