Found this on a T&F forum...

Report from the meet says that Combest injured his leg.
"Combest placed third in his 60 heat Friday in 7.27 seconds to rank 26th
out of 41 entrants. He ran well through 40 meters before pulling up. "

Never mind, let's hope it's a minor injury and that a little taste of
competition has him enthused again

It depends on his mindset. Is he weekend warrior or does he still see himself as a truly elite athlete. Another former elite junior Obea Moore who was a black version of Combest in the 400 has launched a few comebacks and his never gotten anything better than club level times. Some guys there time in the sun was at 18. I think it's especially true for guys that compete clean and have had injuries.

Casey Combest continued his comeback yesterday winning a 55 meter race yesterday in Kentucky.
His time was 6.27.
I think that is a pretty good time, but the 55 meters is not run too often...

I think its around same level as 6.71 60 meters.
(maurice greene from 50 to 60 meters in 0.83. 0.83/2 is 0.415 6.39-0.415=5.975 and than 6.39/5.975*6.27=6.705)LOL

Casey finished 1st in his heat, but 6th overall today at a meet in Indiana.
His time was 6.97, which is not that great.
But honestly, we can't expect too much from a guy who has had a 7 year (or more?) layoff.

I think his comeback is officially over. He just ran his first 100m of the season, and clocked an 11.77. Elite high school girls would destroy him.

I doubt he's gonna want to continue embarrassing himself.

I hope that was due to a injury, because that's pretty pathetic. what meet was it?

This comeback looks similar to a former boxing champion who comes back and can no longer take a punch. 11.77 is slower than what Ben Johnson ran when he was racing horses and drag racers....

He missed his chance. Casey got in with the wrong crowd and basically just walked away from track at an early age. He could have possibly been special. It just goes to show that kids need to be careful with the friends that they associate with. He took way too many years off to realistically think that he could regain his form of his high school days. I wish him well in the future. At least he still has the all time US High School Record in the 60 meters and it could remain for a long, long time!

Well the fastest 10 times or so in the country for high school girls are usually in the 11.3 range. I think the record for H.S girls is 11.11 by Angela Williams.

11.77 is laughable for a former H.S record setting man. I would think he must have tweaked a muscle or something to run that slow even if he isn't in good running shape.

Like I mentioned my cousin who I'm close with's best friend's girlfriend has run an 11.9 and she is a 5'3 19 year old girl! And BTW she's a hot white Italian girl to boot not a black girl. It looks like she would give Casey a legitimate run for his money if in fact Casey is running consistently in the 11.8 range.

I would hope Casey hasn't really slowed down that much. He'd have to be "way out of running shape", but more likely tweaked a muscle.

I haven't run a 11.7 since junior high, but I'm pretty sure at 15 years later I could step out on the track and run around that. he had to have gotten hurt. either way you can put a fork in him, he's done.

Does anybody have further info about the race, or even know what meet this is from?
He ran some decent times indoors this season, so I can't imagine he would be so slow unless he was injured.
But even if he is injured, I guess his comeback is done for now.

His times during his return weren't really that good. That 6.27 55m was result of faulty timing. There were 4 personal bests in the simgle race. His 60m times during the indoor season were 6.97, 7.02, 7.07, and 7.27. The double false-started every other time. If he was that slow in the 60m after training for 8 months, I knew he wasn't gonna do anything in the 100m.

He's been training for about a year now, andhis muscle memory never kicked in. I knew he'drun in the 11's, but 11.77 is disappointing.

There has to be something behind that time, as 11.77 is mediocre for a masters sprinter(in the 35 to 39 age range). For perspective my friend that I told Minimus about did a 10.5W at the Canadian Championships in the B final and he wasn't within sniffing distance of making the Canadian team.

Casey is running indoors again. He had his first race yesterday in Chicago and he ran a 6.53 in the 55 meters to advance to the finals. I haven't been able to find out what time he ran there but this is a very good time for his first race of the year. Here is a link to the ESPN the Magazine article about him with pictures and videos of Casey in training. Good luck to him in his comeback.

This should shed some light on his poor 11.77 timing: Combest planned to qualify at a meet in May at the University of Louisville. To make the cut, he'd need to run a 10.07 or betterâ€â€￾.07 seconds faster than his personal best. He was clean out of the blocks and by the 40-yard mark, he had the lead. But the cheers of more than 30 of Combest's friends and family turned to a collective gasp as he faltered and pulled his left hamstring, hobbling in at 11.77.

This is a great quote: The Jamaican-born Graham had been searching for a white athlete to mold into a world-class sprinter. "I've always wanted to break the stereotype that a white man can't sprint as fast as a black man," says Graham. "I wanted to show the world that that's just a bunch of crap." The white guy from Henderson was the perfect candidate and Graham offered to coach him for free.

I'm a little surprised ESPN would printthis article. Maybe Casey gets apass from MSM punditsbecause of his ghetto driven past. All that aside, best of luck to him!

Regardless of what happens this season, you have to really wonder what could have been if he never went down the wrong path. He wasted the last decade of his life. Those are his prime years. I give him credit for at least attempting a comeback. He is a tough kid and he is putting his body through hell to try and get back to where he needs to be. His dad must of been a good sprinter as Casey has great genetics. It's funny though that he is not built like any sprinter that I have ever seen and yet he is the fastest 60 meters high school kid of all time! Good luck to Casey Combest. Do it for your family. That is a great quote from Graham. What exactly is "a lifetime ban" in track? Would an athlete have his eligibility to compete denied if he were affiliated with Graham, now? Do they differentiate between being the officially recognized coach of a team and giving private, "non-professional" instruction. I can't imagine they can regulate informal coaching that may be going on.

Charlie Francis can never be an official coach for any athlete. But when the druggie first family of track(Jones and Montgomery)trained in Toronto for a few months. Francis was an "adviser" to the dynamic duo. That's what Graham will be from now on.

Hopefully, he'll still be advising Casey and other white athletes then.
