Here is a unique phenomenon, a 4-star CasteRivals Dual Threat QB who is -gasp- white! I feel late to the party on this guy, who leads perennial Kansas power Gardner-Edgerton High School football. He is committed to the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He is leading his virtually all-white team (I did notice 1 sumo on defense, doubtless highly recruited)into an important state semi-final matchup this weekend. Here is a short highlight clip: [TUBE]wMpPbXkMUYE[/TUBE]
A white guy named Bubba! Hey there are two great white RBs named Tre and Nile! If these guys took tanning pills or stained their skin black, I'm sure whiterivals would 100% believe they were black and be fawning over them even more!
May end up in baseball (outfielder) after all is said and done from what I hear. Will play both sports at nebraska
maybe we will see two white dual threat quarterbacks lead Nebraska to big games like Frost/Crouch. Nebraska is looking like the team to watch for the following years. Too bad they didn't offer Knapp.
A "Starling" performance by Bubba last week: Nebraska-bound quarterback Bubba Starling of Gardner (Kan.) Gardner-Edgerton had 31 carries for a school-record 396 yards and five touchdowns in a state semifinal loss last weekend. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwP9rQcfbgA
He was injured in the middle of the 4th quarter of the game (no word yet on the severity) or he would have gone over 400 easy, and Gardner-Edgerton probably would have won the game.
Excellent article, with an embedded video, documenting the difficult decision that Bubba has ahead of him choosing between the millions in baseball money or the allure of being QB for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. A rare instance where ESPN deserves a pat on the back. ESPN Bubba Starling
Ouuch...Bubba Starling was picked 5th overall by the local KC Royals...now what?? Is it fair to make Matt Jones comparisons...this dude is a freakish athlete! Great instincts! A little lighter than Jones coming out of HS. It almost seems recently athlete's have a Plan B just in case football doesn't pan out. Thankfully baseball hasn't stolen players likeJake Locker, Eric Decker, Toby Gerhart, Riley Cooper....wish Jeff Samardzija had stayed with football.
Being picked by the Royals isn't necessarily a bad thing for those of us who want to see Bubba continue on the gridiron. After all, who wants to play for the Royals?? Even us local folks look at them as a laughingstock. Methinks Mr. Starling will be donning Nebraska red this year.
He would be an idiot to turn down a 5-6 mio offer to go to college. The Royals are a bad MLB team but they have the best farm team by far. Wouldn't surprise me if they make the playoffs in the next 2-3 years.
Just a quick Bubba update. His baseball career has not gone as well as planned, he's currently toiling away on the Royal's class A farm team in Lexington, KY, and averages a strikeout every 3 at-bats. A writer for the Cornhuskers has a nice update article on Starling. In his opinion, Bubba will be back on the gridiron next year, although probably not with Nebraska:
