You guys have to go check out his site.It is one of the best sites I have seen in a while. There are alot of pictures and a great video of some of his best runs. This guy jumps like a high hurdler. It's incredible and his speed is amazing. You can also ask him questions which he will try to answer as many as he can.Encourage him to stay at running back when he goes to the draft guys. Here is the site.

Brian will probably be one of the only Heisman Hopeful Running Backs ever who will share equal time at best with the other back.If Rutgers really wants Leonard to have a legit chance at the award, play the kid the majority of the time.Just passing to him does not make up for him getting limited chances to run the ball. This kid can do it all.Give him the ball on the ground and in the air.Good luck to a very classy football player.

he has virtually no chance of winning the heisman but i'm very hopeful he can be considered as a tailback or at least find an early Alstott-like role somewhere.

From article from last fall:

"He's a very, very underrated player," said Pitt linebacker H.B. Blades, who
watched Leonard roll up 130 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns in a
37-29 Rutgers victory last Friday. "He's the best running back I've played
against since I've been in college."

Whoa. Better than Kevin Jones, Julius Jones, Walter Reyes and Darius
Walker?

Blades didn't flinch.

"That combination of power and speed is amazing," he said. "Some of the
runs he makes in the open field, he can cut like a tailback. He jumps over
safeties when they try and cut him, but then he runs over linebackers and
defensive linemen. His combination of power and speed just makes him
the best at what he does."

Brian Leonard has been playing a good game agenst UNC. The best thing is the anouncers have been talking about how great Brian is and have not yet used any key words like "sneakey speed"

Yet they still will only give him the ball 5 to 10 carries at the most while the other running back gets 20 plus carries.I thought they wanted him to try and win the Heisman. What a joke.He should be the number one running back but even Rutgers will not allow it.

Yeah Raymell Rice had a 200 yard game and 3 TDs, so you can forget about Leonard having a good year now that this buffoon is getting the ball. He didn't even break 50 total yards for the day. Its almost as Brian is being groomed to be a blocker for the NFL.

What doesnt make sense to me is why Rutgers would start a Heisman promo but not make him the featured back. Hopefully Leonard will get more carries...

Why do I get the feeling they don't want to offend the black RB by giving Leonard all the carries, so they give them to the black instead...

It's the same mentality as when Syracuse recruited record-setting tailback Rob Konrad by offering him Jim Brown's hallowed #44, which had only been worn by Brown and two other great black tailbacks at that school, and thenused him as afullback who didn't get nearly as many carries as several black scatbacks. Not a single head coach at a major program in the United States will use a white as the featured runner except for Sonny Lubick at Colorado State.

There are two reasons for this. Either the coaches think it is morally wrong to feature a white runner, or they think that they can't win with a white runner, which would cost them their jobs. Which do you think is the answer?

It used to be thought that a "big back" who had good speed is better than the "scatback," who even if faster will have less durability. This theory holds that a big back will keep the chains moving even if the QB is having an off day. In other words, the big back (such as Konrad or Leonard) will always enable you to sustain something. Even better, they can run the clock down when you are ahead.

you are right, historian.

look at the game between Idaho and Michigan State today. Jayson Bird's running was the only thing that kept it respectable. this kind of decision making by the coaches doesn't make any sense...

have any of you guys ever studied groupthink? jeez!

Groupthink is part of it too as football is the strongest copycat sport. Another word for it is cowardice, as the taboo against whites at running back has been in place for so long now that coaches don't have the guts to challenge it.

Leonard's treatment today comes as no shock to me as I stated previously on this site.

nj816 said:
Last year Ray Rice had more carries than Leonard and you can expect the disparity to increase this year, especially with Schiano at the helm.

Leonard will assume a more "prominent" role as the lead blocker in many sets for Rice. We will hear about how unselfish a player he is and how he compares favorably to Rob Konrad. Thus setting him up for a glamorous NFL career where he will probably have a total of 15 rushing attempts over a four year period.

Keep in mind that Schiano has a doctorate in caste football etiquette, having been schooled at the "U",University of Miami for us krackers. He will see to it that Leonard's proper place has been establised by the 2007 NFL draft.

Watching him he reminds of Riggins who was a more athletic back than Alstott. I'm just not sure if any coach will give him a real role as runner at the next level. It seems at the college level if you are the off the pace back at the next level you are hardly ever used. Goodspeed and Edwards played roles a shade less prominent than Alstott's role in Tampa. In the pros they have been virtually never used beyond blocking(Even though Edwards was used a bit by New England).

I watched much of the Rutgers game yesterday and nj186 is right on the money about Leonard. The next time Rutgers plays I am going to record how many times the announcer says the word "unselfish" when talking about Leonard. This appears to be the word to use when describing a white player who should be running the football, but instead is playing the role of Moose Johnson. I dont know how many carries Leonard had yesterday, but when I watched I seen him carry the ball one time, and at least 5 times I seen him lead blocking and hitting the linebacker for Rice.

Leonhard's chance to be a featured back ended when he said he would be glad to block for someone else. Coaches want big ego guys to carry the load. A guy who is a team player is not selfish enough for a lead role.

Coaches will always say they want team players and they do want some, but what they really want are guys that have the balls to take charge. It's like women saying they want nice guys and then going for jerks. The alpha male syndrome.

It's why Terrell Owens is still around and why so many black retreads get recycled around, they are big ego backs that can carry the starting role. Block for somebody? Get real! That's for losers.

Leonhard is preparing for his only shot at a pro career, blocking for the alpha male.

hopefully tomorrow he can get more than a token carry here and there... Rice is good, gotta give him that, but there's one problem: Leonard is even better!

so far only one catch for 6 yards, 3 yards short of a touchdown... nice TD by senior TE (6'6, 260) Clark Harris... i will be pretty upset if Leonard doesn't see more of a ball in next 3 quarters...

Leonard has 3 catches for 24 yards but his three runs availed to zero yards while Rice was doing pretty well (13-67, 1TD)until he got the ball on 2nd and goal and fumbled it... hopefully Leonard will still get somne carries and break off a big one or two!Edited by: backrow
