I just wanted to start a thread for this exceptionally talented freshmen running back for Iowa. He was unstopable in high school and he had over 100 yards in his first college game today against rival Iowa State. He is going to be talked about alot over the next 4 years. What a stud. He trains as hard as anyone in the country and the results show up on game day. Here is a link to him training.

He runs a low 4.4 and has a 36 inch vertical. That is not bad at all.

I was actually already more impressed by Wegher's style- just in this first game- than McGuffie's. As far as who has better lateral agility- it's a push- they're both way on the end of the bell curve "freaks". But Wegher doesn't run as upright and knocks the defenders back better with his leg drive than Sam. Wegher really finished runs today. Also, he didn't hesitate at all. Even with some penetration into the backfield, BW would pull out his original ankle breaking juke or two and then as soon as he saw a crack he'd explode toward the hole. His reaction to a seam opening up was ridiculously good and he had no trouble shifting his momentum or even profile to slip through it. His ability to hit the seam was better than Sam's. Like Sam- in the second level while going full tilt he can shift in another direction on a dime.

I think within a couple games BW will be named the starter. Although he might not be the one man show for Iowa this season, he is too good to keep from getting the the majority of carries if Iowa wants a chance to win a NC. I know this was only his first action and he may yet have have some growing pains, but boy was I impressed today!

    Here's a very good article:

Wegher Bursts onto Scene in Big Game

Ferentz said that Wegher has moved past Week 1 starter Paki O'Meara on the depth chart with Saturday's outing.

After watching Wegher, O'Meara and Adam Robinson the last two weeks, it's obvious who is the most gifted runner. Wegher does things you can't teach but just come naturally for the good ones. He showed great vision, strength and burst against Iowa State.

Wegher displayed some incredible athletic ability with a one-handed grab on a ball thrown over his head. His leap over the pile for a touchdown from a yard out was impressive.

Don, great article. Even the announcer was raving about Brandon's agility. He said he's got a ton of "wiggle". Yet caste wacko Scouts INC. said precisely this about Brandon in their write-up:

"Can be a bit straight-lined. Lacks great lateral quickness and the suddenness to make multiple defenders miss in the open field. Hasn't shown a great feel for the cutback lane or much wiggle"

O.K Tom Luginbill, I guess it's about that time for your yearly donation to the United Negro College Fund. [IMG]

I didn't get to see Brandon or that game at all. Hopefully that will change soon though. Its nice to have several white starting RBs that we can see each Saturday. Thats a big change from 2004.

Exactly how many running backs can make multiple defenders miss? The only ones i can think of is adrian peterson and barry sanders....and sam mcguffie (notre dame game anyone?). Mcguffie moved so quick that game he was literally bouncing off his own blockersEdited by: Taco

Not many. As much as I like Brandon Wegher it seems like people are forgetting about McGuffie since he wont be playing this year. Brandon looks really good from what little I have seen from him. I am at school and haven't had a chance to watch the whole game but i have it recorded. I am glad he is in a better situation than McGuffie was at with Michigan, McGuffie's oline was still gelling together and he seemed hesitant at first but improved.

They both are great and I really can't put one above the other, except Wegher is a little bigger. Both have potential to be better than most runningbacks starting in division 1.

Next year with Sharp and Gerhart graduating we will still have McGuffie and Wegher, two freakish athletes and runningbacks with great potential. I know I am forgetting a few at the moment but these are the two backs that come to mind.Edited by: dwid

There's a great article linked by Draftdaddy about how many recruiters "doubted" Wegher would make a good college tailback, despite all the evidence in their faces. Looks like someone (maybe a CF poster?) explained the true reason for this in the comments.

Wegher has had a good half when he has touched the ball. He is the number two back unfortunelately so he will only get half the opportunities. This kid has it all though. At least he is playing more than most freshman Brandon has a great career ahead of him.

I got some good news to report. After originally ranking Brandon Wegher somewhere in the 60s for 2013 RBs (they're influenced by Rivals too much), NFLdraftscout has moved BW from there, to 43rd, and now to the 19th best RB for 2013.

This is great news guys. Also, they even have Wegher ahead of backfield mate Adam Robinson (as they should). Wegher has better measurables than Robinson and is better at making guys miss. BW has outperformed Robinson in two of the three games they've both played so far as far as yards per carry as well. [IMG]

Wegher outperformed starter Adam Robinson today. Wegher would have had an even better day if his 16 yard run wasn't called back on a hold, but he did have a 19 yard run. Wegher now leads the team in yards per carry.

Has anyone seen the promo clip for the Iowa-Michigan game? These clips tend to over represent the the highlights made by blacks, but in this one they do show a nice clip of Wegher flying into the endzone! I hope he gets a good amount of carries in what should be a fun game to watch.

Wegher flying into the endzone has become his trademark this season! I'm watching as many Iowa games as humanly possible, and I've seen him get some serious air into the endzone a few times!

Wegher had a decent game against Michigan. The other backs ran more and had more yards but Wegher did okay when he did play. He had a leap into the end zone for a TD. He should see more time over the next couple of years.

Wegher will be the starter saturday as Adam Robinson has a badly sprained ankle. We need to support our white brother and hope that he rushes for over 150 yards so that he can really take many bricks out of the caste wall facing so many of our gifted athletes. One more point all of us who can should watch the game is noon on ESPN.

If Iowa finishes the regular season undefeated in the Big Ten and gets to a BCS game then that could serve as a huge platform for Wegher.

I just read a report that Robinson is likely out for the rest of the regular season and so Wegher will get his opportunity to shine for the next few games including the big one coming up in Columbus(Buckeyes)in about three weeks or so.
