"for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he that believes that Jesus is the son of God."
    I John 5: 4-5

As most of you know about me, I am a man of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and getting cancer on my birthday of this year did nothing to change that, it only drew me that much closer to my Lord and Savior.

With that said, in early January of this year I was on a business trip to Memphis and was feeling great. I had always kept myself in relatively good shape at 5'11, 212 lbs. Didn't smoke or drink. I had not only kept my regiment of weight training, benching close to 400 lbs. at almost 50 years of age and able to do 30-40 pull-ups. Two days after returning from my trip, I looked in the mirror to shave and a golf-ball sized knot appeared on the side of my throat. Didn't think much of it at first, just thought it was a swollen lymph node, which everyone was saying it's no big deal. Go to the doctor, get some antibiotics and it will go away, which is what I did. I took antibiotics for 10 days and nothing changed. I didn't wait for the two weeks of taking the antibiotics passed. I immediately went to an ENT doctor in my home town. The ENT doctor did three tests. She inserted a scope/camera down through my nose and throat and saw what she thought was cancer caked on the back of my tongue. Then I was sent to do a CT scan of my head and neck, then it was back to ENT to get a biopsy on the knot on my throat, where she took a needle and stuck it in my swollen lymph node and drew out what turned out to be cancer cells. The results came in a few days later and it was cancer. I just tipped over into stage 4 only because of the size of my lymph node. there was also a tumor way back of my tongue. I never knew. I felt no symptoms: No sore throat, no problems swallowing nothing! The tumor could have been there for a year and I never knew.

The good news was that this type of throat cancer was very curable. The bad news was that the treatment of this type of cancer is the most brutal of all! It involved possibly surgery and radiation or radiation and chemotherapy.

I was advised by my ENT doctor to seek further treatment at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, N.C. I first met with a surgeon who wanted to try a state of the art surgery with a robot to remove the tumor, however, my tumor, along with the structure of the inside of my mouth only gave me a 50/50 chance to remove it with the robot. If while on the table, the surgeon couldn't get to the tumor, he would have to cut into the side of my neck, which could cause problems the movement of my head and neck post surgery along with maybe having to cut into some of my tongue, possibly leading to speech problems post surgery. So, I opted for radiation and chemotherapy treatment. I was told both treatments were equally effective.

So then over the next several weeks I met with my radiation oncologist, a hematology/chemo oncologist, speech pathologist, and nutritionist! I also met with a Dentist and had to have 4 teeth removed and had general surgery to insert a feeding tube, because I would not be able to eat for a couple of months! I also had to have a special mold made to my head and neck, because it was very important for me to not move during my radiation treatment. You're basically clamped down to a table while a laser burns your throat while killing the cancer. After all of this, I was ready for treatment. I won't go into all of the detail of what radiation/chemotherapy does to you, but it wasn't pleasant. The most difficult thing I've ever been through in my entire life. I will tell you that it took 7 weeks. Radiation was 5 days a week and chemotherapy was once per week. The last 2 weeks were the worst and the 2 weeks following treat were just as bad! I lost 50 lbs. and was in a lot pain and that's about all I'll say. LOTS of side effects!

I had to wait 3 months after my last treatment to through another PET scan to determine that I was cancer free which I am now thankful to say, that I am indeed cancer free! I had another check up yesterday and because I do not smoke, I do not have to have anymore scans and there's a 98% chance of the cancer never coming back.

I have learned many things about cancer over the last 6 months. The first thing I would tell y'all, if you see or feel something that's just not normal on your body, don't hesitate to see a doctor. The sooner you get checked the better. It could save your life. Cancer, although concerning is not as scary as it once was. Cancer patients are being cured at record paces if detected early. You don't have to be a smoker or drinker to get throat cancer.

Most cases of throat cancer among non-smokers is caused by the HPV-virus. My doctors told me they are seeing more and more of this kind of cancer caused by HPV. I have two friends who had the exact same cancer I had.

The last thing I'll say is that I thank God/Jesus Christ that he gave the doctors the ability to cure my cancer. My radiation oncologist is a christian and very thankful for that. I had a great support group, including first: my wife, my parents, and my church.

Thank you Don and CF for allowing me to post this! If anyone has questions, please post them and I'll try to answer the best way I can. I would like to help in any way I can.

Have a friend that went through that as well. Your story is almost identical to his. I'm glad it ended well for you, like it did him.

You will have some long-lasting side effects that you will probably carry with you for the rest of your life; fatigue being one of them as well as occasional sharp neurological pains, especially if trying to jog or other cardiovascular exertion, and numbness on your tongue and throat...at least that's what he was telling me after three years of being cancer-free.

When I went to a health store to pick up some things for him, the female cashier said her husband was just diagnosed with the same HPV throat/neck cancer. Iron Maiden's 2015 tour was delayed because their lead singer, Bruce Dickinson, was recovering from the same HPV cancer. He quoted his doctor saying that it's becoming an epidemic among men (and even many women now). Be safe out there.

Good to hear from you Carolina Speed.

Clean living is no guarantee but it helps and your lack of bad habits I think contributed to your resiliency in this situation.

That and your faith in God.

    Carolina Speed, welcome back!

I had a feeling something must have come up since you weren't posting in the mlb section anymore. ;)

Glad you are well and got through it like a champ.

If you, or anyone is interested, look into apricot seeds. I have heard it is very potent in preventing any form of cancer in the body. The medical field and Big Pharma will claim its toxic, but we know they run a business. Can't really trust what they say these days.
I have not taken any, but I am considering it.

I was wondering where you have been. I know you are a HUGE Mike Trout fan. PS: As you probably know he has had a couple of good games in a row but he has been a bit patchy all year despite the nice stats-( does not help that his team really sucks)-he really needs a good run to get people to stop talking about Mookie Betts(ughh) and Altuve.. Anyway welcome back Carolina and best of luck.

Thank you Shadowlight and to everyone here who has wished me well. Yes PHillisFan, I have missed posting on the mlb thread, but I've kept up with the vast amount of talent that's out there and coming up. If someone hasn't already, I will soon list all that talent! Our future in the MLB looks bright!

I can vouch for the natural effects of B17 in fighting cancer. I developed a lump on the back of my neck, and didn't do anything about it. I started eating apricot seeds (apricotpower.com) and it changed the lump into a benign "fatty" tumor. The doctor was amazed. I now eat a few a day, roughly the equivalent of what our cancer-free ancestors would have eaten in their natural diets before mass-processing of foods became vogue. Big pharma and it's payroll lackeys have tried to muddy the water about the chemical process involved, but it just plain works. It's tough for them to ban them, since they are in the pit of every apricot at the supermarket. Bitter almonds are an even better source, but they WERE banned. Really. In the "free" US of A, they banned a TREE.

Glad to have you back for baseball as well. It was a pretty quiet season in the MLB section but there is so much young white talent in the game. I think it partly has to do with white athletes realizing that they have a better chance to make it in baseball rather than football. Alot of great athletes are currently playing in the MLB.

Wow! What an inspiration you are Carolina Speed! Sorry you went thru that...Thanks for sharing your testimony! We have an Anchor! Very impressive you were benching close to 400lbs at age 50!

Mike Trout could easily be 1,000 yard rusher in the NFL if they allow him to....

    Hi again CS!

As I stated earlier in the thread it's great to have you back and cancer-free!

I am glad the way you put things in perspective. Ultimately you gave credit to God, as He used human instruments and the wisdom, skill and technologies He enabled them to use for yours and others benefit. I have never liked those repulsive T-shirts that say "F*ck Cancer". I think that is so disrespectful in many ways. Now, to be sure, I admire a fighting spirit but the open vulgarity shows a disdain for God and quite frankly for people who see it, especially children seeing that nonsense. God chooses to work in mysterious ways and I don't have all the answers but I'm glad you found solace, encouragement and healing from Him and His people and others on your difficult path. Glad you're back, bro.

God bless you. So glad you're back. This is one perilous planet. If one thing don't get you another thing will! Careful of those apricot seeds, fellers. Don't overdo it. Fruit seeds contain cyanide, including common seeds like those in an apple. Don't eat apple seeds. It can kill you. I used to eat them but I'm an idiot and they did make me sick. i didn't know any better at the time. i thought birds eat them so they must be good for people too. Uh no. I thought they tasted nice, a little like marzipan. That's the taste of cyanide. The bitter almonds that were banned had a lot of cyanide. They say eating one bag of it could kill you. I've tried apricot seeds too. Taste a little like marzipan. I'm not saying apricot seeds don't have anti cancer effects. i think the jury is still out on that, just don't overdo it - like me - i overdo everything.

I've heard about common baking soda, sodium bicarbonate, for skin and other cancers, and avocado for skin cancer. Oil of oregano is great stuff. Once I saw two of my toe nails had turned chalk white. I looked it up and it said I had toe nail fungus and you need to go to the doctor and take a long course of medicine and even then it was very hard to get rid of. I looked further for non medical cures and I saw someone who said you can get rid of toenail fungus in one day by applying oil of oregano, so I did and it did. I've found other pretty amazing cures online too. Unfortunately not everything can be cured so easily.

I've used the egg plant cure (for skin cancer) on a couple of very suspicious spots. I'm sure one was definitely cancerous. The lesions healed and so far, so good.

Good info, FD. I truly believe there are a lot good things out there that can help prevent Cancer. Although, it would be foolish to say any method is 100% guaranteed.
Like you said, Big Pharm only cares about making a fortune and making sure they shoot down any research that does not benefit them.
I think the key words to look for are Anti-Inflammatory. Anything seen as Anti-Inflammatory should be part of one's diet such as Tumeric.

Do you just rub the eggplant on? I've successfully used baking soda on suspicious bumps.
