The American Israel Public Affairs Committee.

The website of the lobbyinggroup thatpretty much controls the US Congress, who pushed hard for war with Iraq and are now doing the same with Iran. The annual AIPAC Policy conference was this past weekend, on the website you can listen to speeches by politicians from both sides of the aisle pledge theirsteadfast supportfor Israel.

Obama, the boy wonder, the man with the plan for the "new direction" for America, shows his true colors as he grovels to the real wielders of power. He has fawning praise for the US-Israel "relationship" and tough talk for Iran, calling them a "threat." He's typical though, everyone in Washington who wants to get anywhere politically knows that moving up on the ladder means getting the seal of approval from Tel-Aviv and their agents at AIPAC.

Thanks for the info, Roundabout. Depressing but not surprising.

The current code word for war, even Nuclear War, against Iran is the mantra: "All options are on the table, I repeat, all options."

See Sen. John Edwards for more of this toadyism to AIPAC.

We don't have an independent country anymore. The turning point was the Johnson administration and its unwillingness to defend the USS Liberty against the Israelis. Elements of the sixth fleet were all for immediate retaliation.

God, how I would have loved to have seen a squadron of Navy Phantoms make a smoking ruin of the Israeli Jets and gunboats who bombed and strafed our boys.

That's putting it mildly.

Recently, AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee) had its annual confab in Washington, D.C. The Jewish Telegraph Agency (JTA) reported that it drew the leaders of both parties, Democrat and Republican to genuflect at the altar of Israel.

No other lobby on Capitol Hill is as powerful as AIPAC; no other lobby could come close to its bipartisan power. Here is quote from the JTA article:

The March 12 gala dinner drew half the U.S. Senate and more than half the House. It featured addresses by Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.), the Senate majority leader, and Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), its minority leader.

The next morning, Pelosi (speaker of the House) and Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio), the House minority leader, headlined the traditional Tuesday-morning sendoff to the Capitol for a day of lobbying.

Make no mistake; AIPAC is a lobby for a foreign country, for the interests of a foreign country. The JTA pointed out that the Israeli Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert, spoke by satellite to the conference and that his main point was that to quote JTA,

"The equation promoted by those who support continuing the war is simple: Israel's security requires a continued U.S. presence in Iraq, and questioning President Bush's policy is tantamount to undermining Israel and the United States."
