Mississippi State has started 1, 2, 2, 3, 5, 5, 2, 2 and 2, 2, 3, 1, 1,3, and 3 whites. This year it stays consistent at 3.

I had hopes that Mike Leach might lighten up this roster, at least by SEC standards. He played a lot of white WRs at WSU and Texas Tech, so I thought that might continue here. Instead, it looks like he will just stockpile white stars at QB, and add some white OL. By virtue of that, I expect this team to start 3-4 whites for the foreseeable future, all at QB and OL. Right now, none of them have been able to break through the veteran OL.

QB Will Rogers might be the most underrated in the country. He will continue to put up huge numbers in Leach's offense, and solidify an NFL future. WR Austin Williams returns yet again as a starter. With 50 career games 26 starts, he knows this program inside and out.

On defense, Jett Johnson should take over at one of the LB spots. Sixth year senior walk on LB Sherman Timbs played a lot last year, and should rotate at both LB and DE. Junior DE Jack Harris will also be a crucial back up, and should play a lot. Unfortunately, there is not any white defenders to anticipate down the line, so after this year and next, this group might be the final one for a while. Scholarship DB Landon Guidry transferred out after an injury-ladden career.

The roster is loaded with large white WRs including Williams (6'3" 205) but the remainder are walk-ons. I had high hopes last year for 6'5" 240 WR Brad Cumbest who ended up opting for the MLB instead. The walk-on WRs are Jace Dean (6'4" 205), Braden Coffey (6'4" 200), Andrew Berquist (6'2' 200) and Nick Lauderdale (6'3" 210). It doesn't seem like any are likely to play meaningful snaps this year, but it's hard to believe Leach could resist keeping this size of the field. Maybe one will emerge.

Offense -
QB - Will Rogers
WR - Austin Williams

Defense -
LB - Jett Johnson

Notable back ups include QBs Sawyer Robertson (4 star HS recruit), Chance Loveritch (South Alabama transfer), Daniel Greek, and Braedyn Locke (4 star HS recruit), C Steven Losoya (transfer from MTSU), RG Cole Smith (15 career starts, could sneak back in the line up), DE Jack Harris, and LB Sherman Timbs.
