Memphis announced that it has paused all practices following a COVID-19 outbreak in the program.
Evan Barnes and Mark Giannotto of the Memphis Commercial Appeal are reporting that "at least 20 people" in the program have outright tested positive, with another 20-plus more in isolation due to contact tracing. Barnes and Giannotto are hearing that the majority of these cases cropped up on the defensive side of things. As to just what might have apparently caused this outbreak, two words: party bus. Barnes and Giannotto are reporting that some Memphis players decided to live it up following the team's win over Arkansas State to open the season last weekend. Whether Memphis will be able to play against Houston next Friday will be determined over the coming days. The beginning to the college football season has gone off quite well thus far, but stories like this give cause for pause. The goal isn't just to play a few games, after all, it's to get a whole season in the books. And that will become increasingly difficult if further incidents like this start cropping up.

I’m sorry, it’s all ********. My nephew plays NAIA football. One of his roommates tested positive. Subsequently my nephew tested positive and received a 10 day quarantine. He had a low grade fever for a day or two. No other symptoms. This virus has little to no effect on college athletes. Actually, if they were allowed to work out and live their lives through the Summer, they would all have already been exposed and immune by now. If there was no Covid testing, none of these kids would even know they were exposed.
