Since 2005, Utah has started 11, 11, 11, 8, 8, 11, 11, 11, 6, 5, 6, and 5 white players. In 2018 they project to remain at 5. Like with BYU and Oregon State, Utah has become a dumping ground for poly players, with four of them starting on the offensive line and several on defense, but they do have several freshmen white players of defense to cheer for and a starting WR.
WR Britain Covey will start as the WR-X after having 43 catches for 519 yards and 4 TDs in 2015, plus 21 punt returns for 246 yards and a TD, after being forced on a two-year LDS Church mission. Two other white WRs on the roster in former-walk on SR Jameson Field (played in 13 games in 2017 on special teams and 8 on offense, should get some snaps in 2018) and RS FR Dylan Slavens, who was also a walk-on at DB before being moved to WR. JR Joey Wood is on the roster at running back, also a walk-on, after having 265 carries for 1,964 yards and 28 TDs as a high school JR then 173 carries for 967 yards and 13 TDs as a SR.
Chase Hansen, after not being good enough at safety apparently (honourable mention All-PAC-12 at safety as a sophomore), will return as the starting MLB. Another white player forced to go on a church mission while with a Utah team, one last season to make an impact at college level. Cody Barton is the other defensive starter after having 45 tackles, 4 sacks, and 3 fumble recoveries as a JR.
FR Jackson Cravens at DT may be one to watch, looks the part at 6’3 303lbs and is Jordan Cameron’s (2013 pro bowl tight end with the Browns) cousin. Three white defensive ends to watch in SO Nick Heninger, FR Blake Kuithe, and FR Jaxson McBride. Three freshman defensive backs on the roster in Stone Azarcon (walk on), Quinn Fabrizio (may be moved to LB), and RJ Hubert (high school receiver who was Nevada D-1A MVP in 2014, 50 career TDs with 23 receiving, 15 rushing, and 12 returning).
Offense
WR: Britain Covey (SO)
TE: Jake Jackson (JR)
LT: Jackson Barton (SR)
Defense
MLB: Chase Hansen (SR)
“Rover” LB: Cody Barton (SR)
Back-ups listed on the two-deep are QB Jack Tuttle and C Johnny Capra.
