Since 2006, Southern Miss has had 5, 8, 5, 5, 2, 6, 6, 4, 4, 7, 6 and 6 white starters. They are projected to start at least 2 in 2018 - 3 if QB Jack Abraham wins the QB competition.

Another team not to go out of your way to watch.

Players to look out for are WR Reid Rials, WR Sam Smith, WR Barret Barham, OL Wyatt Richthofen, OL Hayden Sturdevant, LB Paxton Schrimsher.

One black quarterback transferred to Tulane. The other was suspended.

Southern Miss redshirt senior QB Kwadra Griggs has been suspended indefinitely.

Per the program, Griggs has been hit with the indefinite suspension due to a "student conduct matter." That's all the information we have to go on at this early juncture. It's not yet known if this suspension could stretch into the regular season. During the past campaign, Griggs started seven games while throwing for 1,879 yards with a 16/2 TD/INT ratio. He was kept under wraps in the spring while recovering from Achilles surgery. With Keon Howard transferring to Tulane earlier this month, the Golden Eagles suddenly find themselves in a dire spot at quarterback. JUCO transfer Jack Abraham looks to be the most reasonable remaining option on roster. Beyond Abraham, we're talking guys like a redshirt freshman in Marcello Rodriguez and a true freshman (coming off an ACL tear) in Tate Whatley.
