Outstanding time by Volko. I didn't know he had that type of speed endurance. This guy has the complete package!

Lemaitre opened up his indoor season winning the 60 meters today in a time of 6.62!

Down In Australia the men’s 100m was won by Rohan Browning (NSW) in a time of 10.25 (-0.2)

Michael Tumi back on the track with a 6.67 60m in Italy.
Kyle De Escofet with the same time in France. He's 21 yrs old.
Zdenek Stromsik with a 6.66 time in the Czech Republic. Suddenly the Czechs have some sprinters!

Do you remember Kate Hall, high school record holder in the LJ?
She's also doing well in the sprints.
"Junior Kate Hall won another meet this year in the women’s 60-meter. She matched her personal best time of 7.28. Her time is in the top three marks of the nation."

Browning's winning time of 10.19 in the men's 100m shattered his PB and was just 0.04 outside the Commonwealth Games A qualifying mark.

"I'm stoked," said the 20-year-old.

"It felt really smooth. I went into this race with good mental clarity; I felt more confident than I've ever been in my shape.

"Me and (coach Andrew Murphy) have been working really hard - we've had a few hard seasons with injury.

"I came back from London then I went to Taiwan (World University Games).

"I bombed hard at the end of what was a pretty tumultuous season, and I came back with a lot of resolve to tick all of the boxes and make sure that I really made the most of this season leading into the Commonwealth Games."

Browning is aiming to do the 100m-200m double at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in April.

looks like Kilty and co. will have it tough indoors this year - Christian Coleman just reduced Greene's WR to 6.37 in his opening meet.

Actually: probably won't be ratified - no electronic starting blocks used and no on site drug testing

I looked up the guys stats and he isn't very big. 5'8 and 159 lbs. Seems like a very similar build to Julien Reus and Bingtian Su of China. I don't know track and field as well as some others here. Isn't it extremely rare to open with a time that fast?

stronger with low center of gravity sprinter benefit in shorter distance due to quicker turnover and starts. Coleman is fast but also very strong. He could run a 9.8 right now outdoors. But his size limit would never bring him close to Bolts records.

Here's hoping Jack Hale gets in a good race today and gets the Commonwealth Games 100m qualifying time. I did not know he was a 7.66m LJ and 1.91 HJ at 15 years old.... Multi talented! This kid just looks fast even in pictures.

I'm looking forward to see what Tortu can do this year. . . .
I also want to see if Bruno Hortelano of Spain comes backs in 2018. He ran 10.06 and 20.12 in 2016, but was in a car accident and missed all of 2017.

Bruno Hortelano is on his way back to competing.
Here's an article about him. It points out that as the European Champion in 2016 he beat Guliyev, who won the World Championship.

good-day WL - this is only the ACT state (and it's technically territory, not a state) champs but lots of C'wealth hopefuls will be here since wind conditions are usually good and it's at 2000 ft elevation. It's also only 3 hrs by car from Sydney.
The prelim 100s were on today - there are 13 seeded sprinters (sub 10.60e I think) not yet seen today who get a bye into the semis.
I don't know if the semis are on today - it's going on 10.30 pm here now and there's no word of results for them

an easy 10.36 semi then saw Joshua Clarke withdraw from the final - are his injuries still coming back to haunt him?
He's the vital 4th leg of our relay since he's equal with these other three..... we need 4 fit 10.20 guys to make some sort of show in the Commonwealths

17 year old Riley Day won the women's 100 in a new PB 11.52.
I don't think she'll knock a quarter of a second off that in the next month to qualify but she keeps getting better and she's very smooth and calm as she runs
Here's a (poor) video of the men: Browning 10.225, Hale and Williams both 10.228

But you can bet Reus's hair looked immaculate

At Berlin indoor meet.

China’s Su Bingtian showed that he will be ready for the World Indoor Championships as well. He took the 60m in 6.55, comfortably ahead of Italy's Filippo Tortu who clocked a lifetime best 6.62.

Some miscellaneous news - Kilty opened with a 6.63 in France this weekend.
Devin Quinn who was a HS sprint star, is now running for Illinois. He ran a 6.72 in Illinois.
John Teeters ran a 6.69 in a heat in Houston a few weeks ago. I'm just glad he's still running.

I glad all of these guys are still running. Especially Teeters and Kilty.

To be fair jacknyc, I'm also glad Lemaitre and Reus are still hungry to compete. They both
have run 6.62 and 6.61 this season. They could have given up the sport a long time ago. They
didn't and I'm very happy they still compete. Imagine if Ramil Guliyev had given up before last
season where he went on to win the 200 meters gold medal at the world champs.

All I'm saying is despite many frustrations with both of these guys(Lemaitre, Reus), be glad that we
still get to witness two of the better sprinters of the last decade or so. Especially with Christophe.
Julian Reus though is still the best 100 meter sprinter in German History as far as times go. He holds
all of the records over 60 meters and 100 meters. So he also deserves some respect.

I'm hoping a lot of these guys shock us this year like Guliyev did last. Here is to the older guys who
still yearn to be the best.

After that I love all of the young talent coming up. Exciting times indeed guys! Gonna be a great season!
