2017 Clemson Tigers

Since 2006, Clemson has started 7, 5, 5, 5, 2, 4, 3, 5, 5, 3, and 6 whites. This year, the defending national champions start anywhere from 5 to 7 this year.

Although this is till an inexcusably small amount, I must give credit to Dabo Swinney for at least assembling several white defensive scholarship players over the last few recruiting cycles. 6'3" SS Tanner Muse is a total stud who will definitely be playing on Sundays one day. WR Hunter Renfrow, the infamous hero of the national title game, returns as a starter on offense. Unfortunately, Swinney loves his black quarterbacks and currently one is slated to start over freshman QB Hunter Johnson. Hopefully Johnson is able to secure the starting job some point this year, as Clemson's presence of white players at the skill positions would make this one of the teams to pull for in the coal black ACC, especially if they had a white QB at the helm.

RT - Sean Pollard - in a battle for position

Defense -
LB - Chad Smith - in a battle for position
SS - Tanner Muse

Back ups include QB Hunter Johnson, TE Cannon Smith, C Gage Cervenka, RG Maverick Morris, and LB James Skalski. There are a number of white walk on WRs and DBs on the roster, hopefully one is able to make a breakthrough like Renfrow did.

Fago sweeney names the black quarterback as the starter. I remember when Watson came in as a freshman and their starting QB was white - the media and dwfs clamored for watson. I wonder if the same situation will occur with Hunter Johnson taking over for the black quarterback. My guess is no and even if/when the black quarterback struggles they will say he is the best option for the team.

Observations from FBS football...

2015: Several black quarterbacks had season-ending injuries, a few right out of the gate in the first couple games.

2016: black quarterbacks stayed rather healthy. Healthier than usual indeed.

2017: In my estimation, there can only be an increase in black quarterback injuries this season. Poor performance can get some replaced also.

Being from the South East ....It really is eye opening what Clemson is doing bucking trends on defense! And this had been one of the Main schools over the past several decades that made the White player on Defense go the way of the dinosaur (like In-State rival So.Carolina)as much as any team.....

After leader LB- Ben Boulware left last season for the NFL...(rookie /49ers Practice Squad) ....It has been well stated here Strong Safety (Soph.) Tanner Muse is a big time athlete & game changing difference maker...thankfully has stayed away from baseball! He is currently the only white starter on defense (i think)....

However many more young athletes are emerging that played this past Saturday on 2 Deep...can't ever remember seeing 4 white players on field at same time on Defense.

Off the top-of-my-head, Iowa, Michigan State and Northwestern. I would guess Army, too. Maybe Kansas State and Wisconsin, too. Wyoming looked Whiter on defense than I thought they would, but not sure there were five. Not sure about Boise State. Stanford didn't play.
