In the European Under 18 Champs Ewo Swoboda was the fastest girl in Europe. It was also a clean sweep by the europeans.

Swoboda runs an excellent race to win the Women's 100m, with Mayer & Sivkova taking silver & bronze


In the boys 100 a kid from Sweden took the bronze. Nice to see a swedish sprinter have success on such a big stage.

European-athletics has been doing nice highlight pages of the junior championships, including videos of all the races. The most recent one has skinny 17-yr-old Benjamin Lobo Vedel winning the 400 over a lot of 19-yr-olds. He should have a future. 2nd place was a Norwegian decathlete.

The women's 200 is also very worth watching. Germany's Luckenkemper wins with a Prandini-esque margin. She could be the next Dafne Schippers.

Britain's Tommy Ramdhan won the 200.

Actually, it looks like it was a clean sweep of every event held yesterday.

What an epic performance by Julian Reus. He wasn't able to compete till a little less than a month ago so he is far from being in his peak fitness shape yet. A 10.09 and 10.12 into a negative wind on the 2nd race is excellent in my opinion.

Don't forget we also so the 200 man Robert Herring who showed such good early form as a teenager years ago return to the podium. Didn't think I would ever see that. He took the bronze in the 100. He ran 10.27 and 10.32. Not great times but for him these are fantastic times as this is not his specialty. I hope he can put up some faster times over 200 meters tommorow. Congrats to him on fighting through some awful years but never giving up.

Lastly I have to congratulate the beautiful Verena Sailer. All she did was win her 8th national title. She has also been injured most of the summer so this one
must be very special.

Sometimes I can't help but think how fast Reus and Sailers kids would be if they ever dated or got married. :becky: Congrats to both of these legends.

Dafnes Schippers won today a Diamond League Race in London in an eye popping 10.92. That is so damn fast. This lady is as good as anyone on the planet. She will run in the 10.80's and eventually I see her getting into the high 10.70's. Amazing sprinter!:lock1:


Here is the video of the new Danish National Record in the 100! She had a horrible start. Probably the worst of her career and with
no wind help in bad conditons ran down many of the worlds elite sprinters. Incredible. You have to watch it a few times to really appreciate how incredible Schipper is!

I'm eager to see Guliyev...Lemaitre's pimple on his ass has already been announced by his jackass coach, and may not run in this meet. The Greek guy I think is just a flash in the pan.

I'm very interested to see Lemaitre, Tsakonas, and Guliyev go head to head.
They're all question marks at this point:

Lemaitre is recently injured, and usually disappoints, but every once in awhile shows flashes of his old self. So not sure what to expect from him.
Tsakonas looked very good early in the season, but not so good recently. So hard to say what to expect from him.
Guliyev is always an enigma. Talented, but rarely runs. When he does, sometimes he's quite good, and sometimes he's just mediocre or worse.

I hope they all bring their A games, but it wouldn't be surprising if they all bring their B or C games either.

The Swede Johan Wissman was a very solid 200m guy years ago. I think he won gold or silver in the European Championships. But at this point, he's an after thought. Just in the race for the hometown crowd.

Vicaut will not run of 200M before July 31st, his trainer told me that he prefers not to take risk, he hopes that the French federation will allow Jimmy to run to the world championship even if he did not make qualifying time

I don't know why he would bother to run the 200m at the WC. It is not his event. He won't make the final.
Perhaps in the future, if he decides to run the event more frequently, then perhaps he can improve to be much better. But for now, it seems he should focus on the 100m.

It's in reference to Lemaitre. As he seems to be ascending while Lemaitre is at best in neutral if not in slight decline.

Yes, but Jimmy is also French and half White (White Father), but most importantly he is mentioned here because Vicaut is an example of a Athlete that is well trained by a coach who knows what he is doing, where Lemaitre (who has more natural talent imo) is trained by a clueless tool. You will know the legend of Master Carraz

Tom Gamble ran a new p.b. of 10.25 in the 100 meters. He is 23 years of age and has broken his p.b. twice this year. Here is a quick article from earlier this year.

Ramil Guliyev is quietly having a very nice summer. He ran a 10.08 today. Nice to see him getting close to peak condition with around 3 weeks to go until the World Championships of Track & Field.

I've often thought that he could have been so much faster with better coaching and a better environment. I applaud him however for sticking with athletics through the good & bad times. It would be so nice to see Ramil go sub 10 or sub 20 to reward him for all of his hard work. Maybe he can still get there.

Would rather see him train under Carraz than some Turks. Maybe training and competing with Lemaitre would push both of them to run faster times. Instead of Lemaitre training with 10.5 and 21.0 partners. And Guliyev must have training partners who cant break 11 or 22 (males). Who knows, I know nothing of sprint :grin:

I can't believe no one has mentioned the enormous doping scandal that erupted a few days ago. As most of us have suspected all along, the Kenyans are dopers, pure and simple. A German documentary has hidden camera video of Kenyan runners lining up for injections. It's also got Kenyan doctors bragging about all of the runners they supply with drugs.

The unfortunate thing is that the IAAF will simply sit on this and do nothing, and the Kenyans will continue cheating as they always have.

For those of you who only watch the sprints, by the way, I can tell you that it's because of the Kenyans. You would be watching the middle distance races and loving them--the strategy and tactics, the bursts of speed, the photo finishes--if it weren't for the fact that in most races, it's just 10 or 12 Kenyans (some running as mercenaries for Qatar and other countries). If the IAAF ever brought the hammer down on Kenya and Ethiopia, this sport would be entirely different.
