Looks like the Saints will finally have a player to root for other than the great Drew Brees in tight end Sean Hill, who Sean Payton has been raving about:

Saints coach Sean Payton emphasized his "love" for third-year TE Josh Hill on Wednesday. "This Josh Hill is another player that I love. I love," Payton said. "When you look at his runs, jumps, height, weight, speed, you look at his measurables — and he didn’t go to the Combine, thank God." Payton went on to say he believed Hill would be perceived much differently around the league had he not been an undrafted free agent. Hill is the kind of player whose fantasy hype train could spiral out of control, but he's definitely a candidate for a major step forward in 2015.

Hill wasn't invited to the Combine despite having great athleticism and solid production at Idaho State.

It's nice to see Payton being so high on Hill, but it also has to be taken with many grains of salt. After starting a "snow patrol" at linebacker in his first season as head coach, he methodically stripped the Saints defense of White players. And Payton also has adamantly refused to give any White receivers a chance despite signing the likes of Mike Hass, Chase Lyman, Aaron Hosack and other gifted athletes. Jimmy Graham was traded for Max Unger, giving the team 2 Whites on the o-line for the first time in a long time and opening up a spot at TE for Hill, so we'll have to wait and see if the Saints do actually end up with less of a hard-core Caste look this year.

I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the positive sentiments expressed toward Josh Hill on one Saints forum. Most everyone there believes in Hill. And all indications are that if the Saints were to drafts O-lineman Brandon Scherf, the who dat fans would embrace the move. Some of those folks may be sobering up.

Can Josh Hill Effectively Fill the Saints' Tight End Void?

We talked a little bit about Josh Hill after last season. NFL.com has him ranked on their “Making a Leapâ€￾ list for 2015.

Long-time flop Ben Watson's had just one season in his career with at least 50 catches but he still has the "upside" to surpass the much younger, far more athletic Josh Hill:

Drew Brees stated "adamantly" Wednesday that Ben Watson is the Saints' starting tight end. Josh Hill will be a sub-package tight end who enters in 12 personnel. The Saints are primarily a three-receiver ("11") team, and have been working with Watson in those formations with Brandon Coleman, Brandin Cooks, and Marques Colston at wideout. Hill is going to have a tough time carving out meaningful fantasy value as a rotational player. Watson turns 35 later this year.

LB Michael Mauti was picked up by the Saints (his Dad Rich was a WR for the Saints) after being released by the Vikings...

Not sure what's going to happen with DB Vinnie Sunseri...he was going to make the team but tore his ACL a few weeks ago(not sure if that's the same knee he blew out in college?)...he also broke his arm last November.

Rookie pass rushing specialist Davis Tull has impressed with his explosiveness in the pre-season after finally healing from a torn-labrum(was still drafted in 5th Round)...look for him to make some plays if given the opportunity...

Max Unger is one of the best Centers in the NFL!

Davis Tull is an athletic freak. If he can get healthy he could develop into a pretty good starter.
