We've already had some great performances this weekend. The Michigan-Arizona game was great already today, and now our white athletes are playing very well in the Indiana-Notre Dame game. Will Sheehey is having a great game so far in the first half for the Hooisers, and at the same time, Garrick Sherman and Tom Knight are playing well for the Irish as well.
I'll have the stats for these two games later, unless somebody beats me to them.
Wisconsin also demolished their cupcake team today, 86-61 as well. Ben Brust lead the Badgers with 20 points, and he also pulled down 6 boards.
Also, Northern Iowa and their three white starters (and a ton of white subs) beat all-black VCU today as well, 77-68!!

Here are the recaps this weekend from some of the games I mentioned, and others of interest.
Indiana and Notre Dame was a very fun game to watch; Indiana played with 2-3 whites a lot of the game, and Notre Dame usually had 2-3 whites on the floor as well. Our guys played great in a close win by the Fighting Irish. Garrick Sherman had a nice game, with 16 points, 6 boards, and 4 blocks. Pat Connaughton was also playing well, with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Meanwhile, for the Hoosiers, Will Sheehey finally had his breakout game this year, leading Indiana with 22 points, and he also snagged 5 rebounds. Hopefully, this will continue for Sheehey, who is the only white contributor from last year's team to return. Luke Fischer and Austin Etherington also played double digit minutes for Indiana.
Princeton overcame a double digit 2nd half deficit to beat Penn. State in overtime! Will Barrett lead the Tigers (who had 5 players in double digits!) with 24 points. TJ Bray only had 11 points, but he dished out an amazing 13 assists while grabbing 6 rebounds!!
What a great game between Michigan, who often had 3 whites on the court at once, and Arizona, who was also using their three whites a lot. Kaleb Tarczewski again had a nice game, with 14 points and 9 rebounds. For Michigan, Nike Stauskas played well, with 14 points and 6 boards. Spike Albrecht played a nice game, so much so, he played 25 minutes and sent the real athlete in the starting lineup to the bench for long stretches in the game, including crunch time. Albrecht had 10 points, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds in the contest.
Butler ended up throttling nearly all-black Purdue in the 2nd half to win 76-70. The final score is closer than it looks, as Purdue closed the game on something like a 17-6 run. Kellen Dunham again led the Bulldogs in scoring with 25 points on 8/16 from the field. Erik Fromm had his best game of the year, with 14 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 blocks.
I'm not sure how this happened, but BYU managed to lose at Utah by nearly 20. :icon_eek:

Arizona at Michigan
Michigan was done in late by iffy play, a lack of rebounding and a questionable call by the refs. I found the ending to be a bit unsatisfying. At home, Michigan needs to finish games stronger.
Will be interesting to follow the growth of this team as the season progresses.

Seems in a few years, we can see the youngest Murphy, Tomas, who's a 6'-7" freshman. First we have the Plumlee trio and now we have the Murphy boys! Great to see these athletic White families.

Check out this finish from FGCU and Chase Fieler. He receives a full court throw with .3 seconds, catches in mid-air and makes the shot. Of course, the inept referee called the shot off. Isn't that why they have replay? In the replay, as you can see, Fieler got the ball out of his hands in time.

This pretty much guarantees that McGary comes back next year. With Morgan graduating, Michigan should be very white friendly next year, with Albrecht, Stauskas, McGary, Mark Donnal, Max Bielfeldt, and new recruits Austin Hatch and Ricky Doyle.

Trevor Cooney led Syracuse with 21 points, and he took only 9 shots (hitting 5) to do so. he's a VERY efficient scorer. he added 3 boards, 2 assists, and 3 steals with only 1 turnover in 30 minutes.

Wisconsin started 4 White athletes (and had 6 play double figure minutes) in a shellacking of all-black Prairie View A&M, led by Sam Dekker's double-double. Dekker finished with 16 points (on 6 of 10 from the floor), a couple of highlight dunks, and 11 rebounds. Ben Brust and Frank Kaminsky also reached double figures in scoring.

Niels Giffey finally gets a start for UConn and responds with another strong outing. he finished with 13 points (on a stellar 4 of 5 shooting), 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and game-highs of 3 steals and 3 blocked shots. this Husky needs to be on the floor, coach!

Gonzaga's David Stockton, normally content to be a passer, showed that he can be an effective scorer, as well, in today's conference opener against Santa Clara. Stockton finished with a team-high 21 points (on 8 of 12 shooting), while adding 2 boards, 3 assists, and a game-high 4 steals with ZERO turnovers in 35 minutes. stellar backcourt mate Kevin Pangos added 17 points (on 5 of 8 from the floor), 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. he also didn't have a single turnover in 35 minutes.
Gonzaga started 4 White athletes and had 5 receive over 20 minutes of game play.

flashy point guard Jake Odum had a strong all-around effort for Indiana State in a win over Belmont, finishing with game-highs of 25 points (7 of 14 from the field), 7 assists, and 4 steals. he also added 5 rebounds and 1 blocked shot and had just 2 turnovers in 34 minutes.

Northern Iowa's Seth Tuttle had a strong effort in a win over Iona. Tuttle snagged a game-high 15 rebounds and added 11 points (2 of 6 from the floor), 6 assists, and 2 blocked shots.

Thanks for the write-ups, Jimmy! It looks like our guys had some nice games yesterday! Looking through the box scores, I saw that Xavier center Matt Stainbrook had a really good game against Wake Forest, scoring a game high 21 points, and pulling down 10 rebounds.
Looking through the scores, it looks like BYU is in trouble: how did they lose to LMU? :huh: The Cougars can't afford to keep slipping up like this; they're going to be out of the Tournament with another loss or two like that.
On another note, remember when all-white Cornell was tearing through the NCAA Tournament? Well, since their coach Donahue left for Boston College, they hired a black coach, and guess what? They only have one white starter only 4 years later. Also of interest, they are 0-12 now and are getting blown out every single game. How can this happen with all those superior athletes playing for the Big Red now?

I have to say, what is wrong with the Cougars? I saw BYU dropped a game against Pepperdine of all teams now, fresh off of losing to Loyola Marymount. They aren't making the NCAA Tourney any more if they keep playing like this; with these two losses, I believe that takes them out of an at-large bid right now.

the answer to these two questions is the same, and it comes in two parts.
the first is that BYU has zero depth on the front line. while the Cougars have two athletic forwards in true freshman Eric Mika (6-10) and spindly junior Nate Austin (6-11), they have no one on the bench who is even decent. AND both Mika and Austin are prone to picking up those infuriating "defending while White" fouls that officials love to call. as such, BYU is often forced to play a VERY small lineup with guard Kyle Collinsworth guarding the opposing power forward. so, when Mika and/or Austin get in foul trouble (they both fouled out of the Pepperdine game; Austin fouled out of the LMU game and Mika had 3 fouls), the Cougars are in BIG trouble.
secondly, point guard Matt Carlino drives me insane with the poor decisions he makes. he is possibly the streakiest player in NCAA basketball. he can go on a hot streak and win a game for you by hitting 7 shots in a row, or (far more likely) he can go cold and miss 10 in a row or have a half dozen turnovers in a 20 minute stretch (he went 1 for 7 and had 3 turnovers to 2 assists in 19 minutes against Pepperdine, and he went 4 for 13 with only 1 assist in 22 minutes against LMU). while he does have a lot of talent, if i was picking a ball club i wouldn't want him on my team. he's got major issues between his ears.

Also, due to injuries, it looks like Gonzaga gave us a blast from the past last night, starting 5 white men in their demolition of San Francisco!!
The scoring for the Zags last night was very balanced, with 4 out of the 5 starters in double figures, along with black Coleman off the bench. It was a true team effort last night for Gonzaga.
Karnowski had 11 points with 8 boards and 2 blocks.
Drew Barham had 15 points, 9 rebounds, 2 steal, an assist and a block.
David Stockton had 10 points, 7 assists, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals.
Kevin Pangos had 10 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals.
I'm not sure how long Dower will be out for yet (Bell is out 4-6 weeks), but the Zags play St. Mary's Thursday night on ESPN2. Even if it's just for a couple of weeks, glad to see the Zags starting 5 white guys again!

We've had some great results so far this week! Gonzaga again started 5 white men last night, and in no coincidence, they blew out a way too dark St. Mary's team last night, 73-51, and it was only that close because the Zags sent in the end of the bench the last three minutes.
Przemek Karnowski had a great game last night, tying for the team lead in scoring with 15, snagging 9 boards, and blocking 7 shots. Kevin Pangos also had 15 points, with 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Kyle Dranginis also made it to double figures with 12 points, 4 assists, and 2 boards.
Before the Zags, Wisconsin, who's number 4 in the country right now, destroyed Northwestern by 27 points!! These guys start 4 white players, so if you haven't tuned in to see the Badgers yet, I recommend you do so!!
Belmont (another team starting 4 palefaces) got back on track last night with a win against Jacksonville State. The Bruins were led by Craig Bradshaw with 18 points, and JJ Mann with 16.
Pepperdine forward Brendan Lane (former UCLA player) had a monster game last night for the Waves, with 26 points, 17 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 2 assists!!
Jimmy mentioned Idaho St. guard/forward Chris Hansen awhile back in this thread, and he had another great game tonight, with 27 points, 4 boards, 4 assists, and a block in the Bengals' win over Portland State. Another white player in Tomas Sanchez also had a nice game, with 20 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists as well.
Going back to a couple of games on New Year's Eve quick:
Butler's Kellen Dunham had 22 points in a close loss to Villanova.
Alex Barlow quietly had a nice game for the Bulldogs as well, with 6 points, 5 assists, and 9 rebounds (not bad for the smallest guy on the court much of the night)!
Doug McDermott had a nice game as Creighton annihilated nearly-all black Marquette with 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists.
Iowa, another great team to cheer for in the Top 25 that starts 3 whites, and gives playing time to 3 more off the bench beat all-black Nebraska as well, 67-57. The Hawkeyes had a nice lead virtually the whole second half, but Nebraska cut their lead to 5 with about a minutes left before Iowa finally put distance between them and Nebraska again. Aaron White led the White Hawkeyes with 13 point and 7 rebounds, and Jarrod Uthoff had 11 points and 4 boards off the bench.
On a side note for Iowa, I wish Adam Woodbury would develop some, as for a 7 footer, he isn't very good. If this kid would develop AT ALL, Iowa would be a legit Top 10-15 team. He is getting better though, but he has so much potential yet.
We have a couple teams playing white athletes that are legit threats to be playing for the whole thing in March. First that comes to mind is the team that several of us have mentioned: Wisconsin. I would consider Arizona to be put in this category as well, as they start 2 white athletes, and play one from off the bench. Wichita St, who starts play-maker Ron Baker and plays one more white, are also in the Top 10.
Here are some good teams that I would recommend watching this year: Wisconsin, Gonzaga, Arizona, Iowa, Butler, Creighton, Princeton, and BYU.

i had the chance to watch this game via replay, and it was a dominant performance by the Zags. in addition to the numbers that Jack pointed out already, i'd like to point out some other impressive aspects of this game. let's start with the Gonzaga defense.
- the Zags didn't give up a single St. Mary's offensive rebound until there was just 3:00 left in the game
- the Zags defense was so disruptive that they didn't allow an assist until 3:25 left in the game
- both of the above occurrences took place after Gonzaga had built a 30-point lead and inserted non-starters
- Przemek Karnowski completely owned the paint, holding the Gaels' Brad Waldow (one of the more productive big men in the country) to just 1 of 8 shooting, 5 points, and only 3 rebounds
offensively, the Zags did pretty much anything they wanted to do, as they were as efficient as i've seen them play. they finished the game shooting 49% from the floor (24-49 field goals), 47% (9-19) from 3-point range, and 89% (16-18) from the free throw line. just about the only thing that marred their performance was the number of unforced turnovers they committed. they finished with an uncharacteristic 15 turnovers, but their defense was so stellar that it didn't cost them.
it might have been the most complete performance that Gonzaga has put together this season.
Gonzaga plays again tonight at 7:00 central time.

the last time the Cowboys played, Phil Forte once again led Oklahoma State in scoring … again coming off the bench. he scored 20 points in 21 minutes. the kid can flat out fill it up.

Thanks for the write up on Gonzaga guys. I didn't know what I was missing. I need to watch a few of their games and show them some love. It's always great when you see a team start five white guys in basketball. It's so rare over the last several decades. When teams do have the courage to do it, we need to support them. In my top caste moments of the last decade, I brought up the Duke team which was nearly all white winning the national championship. We need things like this to happen more frequently to help continue to break down stereotypes.

Notre Dame upset Duke in their first ever ACC game! Marshall Plumlee only played 4 minutes as Duke's only white player. Pat Connaughton had 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists, and Garrick Sherman had 14 points while pulling down 8 boards.
Cameron Bairstow had a phenomenal game against Colorado State last night. Bairstow poured in 29 points and grabbed 14 boards in New Mexico's win over Colorado State last night. Alex Kirk also had a nice game for the Lobos with 10 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 blocks.
I noticed Vermont's Brian Voelkel and Clancy Rugg both had some nice games in the Catamount's win over Dartmouth. Voelkel had 14 points and 15 rebounds, while Rugg had 24 points and 8 rebounds.
I noticed BYU finally got back on track with a nice win!! I noticed that the Cougars benched Carlino in this game as well, and his replacement, Skyler Halford, had an awesome game. Halford had 28 points off of 11-16 shooting, and 2-2 from the line.
Gonzaga's all-white starting 5 turned in a great performance yet again, demolishing Pacific 86-64! Gee, that's pretty weird that when Gonzaga was forced into their all-white starting 5, they've turned in three dominating performances in a row, easily their best stretch of the year so far. The scoring for the Zags was again very balanced, with 4 players (3 white) in double figures for scoring.
David Stockton again had a very nice game with 15 points and 5 assists. Kevin Pangos had 16 points, 5 boards, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Kyle Dranginis may have have the most complete game of the white Zags, with 8 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 blocks, and a steal. These guys are so much fun to watch right now!
TJ Bray had another 24 points to go along with 5 rebounds and 4 assists in Princeton's win over Liberty.
North Dakota State guard Mike Felt had a great game against a cupcake, scoring 30 points in the Bison's easy win.

Wisconsin put it on a nearly-all-black Illinois team last night, at one point in the first half going on a 20-0 run. the Badgers had 5 White athletes who played 20 or more minutes, and got double digit scoring performances from Ben Brust (team-high 18), Sam Dekker (17), and Frank Kaminsky (15). each of the aforementioned trio tied for a team-high with 6 rebounds.

Creighton's point forward Grant Gibbs suffered a dislocated kneecap fighting for a rebound Tuesday in the Bluejays' win over DePaul, and he will be out four to six weeks.
this is obviously bad news for Creighton, as Gibbs is not only a terrific passer but he is also a versatile and stellar defensive player, as well. i wish him the speediest of recoveries.

in other White basketball athlete news, Ole Miss' Marshall Henderson will miss the first two games of SEC play due to the discipline from his offseason actions. while Henderson's numbers are down from a year ago, he still leads Ole Miss with nearly 19 ppg and is tops in the SEC with 53 made 3-pointers.

last night, "my" in-state, Arkansas RazorBlacks faced off against Texas A&M in a virtual Obama-bowl … except for one player who will likely inspire Eric Holder to pursue hate crime charges.
Alex Caruso, a 6-foot-5 sophomore point guard, single-handedly destroyed Arkansas' press and led the Aggies to an easy win over the Hogs.
Caruso had a game-high 11 assists, a game-high 4 steals, a game-high 2 blocked shots, 7 rebounds, and 4 points with only 3 turnovers in 31 minutes against the Hogs' vaunted full court pressure defense.
compare Caruso's numbers in the game for the Arkansas Team Totals: 14 assists, 4 steals.

We had some nice performances from our guys tonight!
Iowa took care of business against an overmatched Northwestern squad tonight, with 4 Hawkeyes in double figures on the night in their 93-67 victory. Aaron White led the way for Iowa, with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists. Adam Woodbury finally has a decent night, with 10 points. Point guard Mike Gesell also had a nice game, with 9 points, 6 assists, 2 steals, and a block.
Both Kaleb Tarczewski and TJ McConnell had nice games as the No. 1 Wildcats stayed perfect with their win over UCLA. Tarczewski had 16 points and 8 boards, while McConnell stuffed the stat sheet with 8 points, 7 assists, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals!
In a losing effort for Louisville, Luke Han**** lead the Cardinals off the bench with 20 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals.
It appears BYU is getting back on track. BYU is 2-0 since they have benched Matt Carlino, and Skylar Halford has definitely sparked the team. The Cougar's backcourt exploded in their win over Pepperdine. Tyler Haws led the way with 35 points, including 4/6 from three. Skylar Halford had another great game, with 18 points and 6 boards. Kyle Collinsworth nearly had a triple double for BYU, with 15 points, with 10 rebounds, and 9 assists! Carlino had a nice game as well for the Cougars, with 10 points and 6 assists.
In their demolition of USC, Arizona St. 7 foot center Jordan Bachynski dominated the paint, with 18 points, 12 boards, 2 blocks and 1 assist on the night. Danish forward Jonathan Gilling also chipped in 9 points, 8 boards, and an assist.
A couple of Belmont Bruins had HUGE games tonight in the Bruins' demolition of Southeast Missouri State. JJ Mann had a team leading 25 points, while Craig Bradshaw was close to matching him with 24 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists. Watch out for Belmont in March!!
Butler's Kellen Dunham had another great game, scoring 30 points while adding 3 assists, 3 boards, and 2 blocks, but it wasn't enough as the Bulldogs managed to lose to lowly DePaul in Double OT.hwell:

There were 2 interesting Caste matchups last night that both went in our favor.
The Creighton Blue Jays, with 3 White starters and 4 White reserves, knocked off the #4 Villanova Wildcats, with 1 White starter. Usually Doug McDermott, the best player in college hoops this year, leads the way but not last night. Last night belonged to long range shooting, big man Ethan Wragge. Wragge started the game 7 for 7 from 3 point range! He finished 9 of 14 from downtown, coincidentally not attempting any 2 pointers or free throws. Doug scored slightly below his average with 23 efficient points. He's currently 2nd in the country in scoring. The White reserve players combined for a solid 18 points. For Nova, lone pale-face Ryan Arcidiacono had 9 points and 4 assists. Creighton now sits atop the Big East at 6-1. Pretty good for a bunch of "honkeys from Iowa".

Joe Harris, "the best player on the court" as espn's Seth Greenberg pronounced, lead the way with 16 points and 4 assists. Mike Tobey had a quiet game but played good interior defense in the 15 point win. Virginia moved to 2nd in the ACC at 5-1 while the Tar Heels dropped to 1-4. Boy, could they ever use another Tyler Hansbrough right now.

BYU lost to Portland 114-110 in a 3 OT thriller!! It was an amazing game for BYU's Tyler Haws, who poured in 48 points in the loss. I believe that this is the single highest scoring game in Division 1 this year! Matt Carlino also had a nice game with 25 points. As Jimmy said earlier, BYU's big men got into foul trouble again, with both Mike and Austin fouling out.
As for the Pilots, they had outstanding efforts from 2 white players that contributed heavily to their win. Thomas Van der Mars, the Pilots' center, had an outstanding game as well, with 27 points, 18 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. From the looks of it, he dominated Austin and Mika in the paint. Off the bench, sharp shooter Bobby Sharp matched Van der Mars with 27 points of his own, including shooting 8-13 from three!!
It really sucks BYU lost though, as Portland really has no chance of making the NCAA tourney short of winning their conference, sadly, it's starting to look that way for the Cougars as well.

For the Toreros, guard Johnny Dee had a game high 26 points last night, while also having 4 boards and 3 steals. It's too bad Dee isn't on a better team, as he is really good, and could be starting or at the very least playing a huge role for some Top 25 teams.
Some great news for Michigan... it looks like Spike Albrecht has joined Nik Stauskas in the starting lineup. Albrecht played 35 minutes Wednesday night, and he didn't disappoint. Albrecht had 7 points, 7 assists, 4 steals, and 3 rebounds with NO turnovers against Iowa! With Mitch McGary out for the year, Nik Stauskas again carried the Wolverines to victory with a game high 26 points, while chipping in 5 boards and 5 assists.
