i just wanted to take a few seconds to begin this thread with a mention of a speedster who i don't think has had more than his name mentioned (though it's been said a couple of times, i think) on the boards ...

Alex Amidon, a sophomore for Boston College, is the personification of upside. very much a raw, unrefined talent for BC, Amidon just happens to be the fastest Eagle on the roster.

this article does a good job detailing his story, but i'll share the pertinent bits of his tale:

a record-setting sprinter on the school's track team [the State Champ in the 200 meters for three straight years (set meet record of 21.90 in 2008), the 400 (twice), and 100 (once)], used his blazing speed to just run by people on the football field as a quartereback until his junior year (when he switched to wideout) ... recruited by BC but injured early in camp as a freshman, which stunted his development, which was already behind. hard work in the offseason has his coaches hoping for a BIG improvement and impact this fall.

the 5-11 Amidon is a nice compliment to sophomore wideout Bobby Swigert, who led the Eagles in every receiving category last season as a freshman. despite this, and his good size (6-1, 184-pounds) Swigert primarily mans the "Welker" for BC.

hopefully, these two White men will explode this fall, along with many, many others.

Thanks for posting this JC. I'm surprised that Amidon doesn't run track for the Eagles too. I saw he was a track star in HS & certainly appears to have a slew of speed.

Aaron Pflugrad - Arizona St. (Sr.) - 11 for 230 & 4 TDs

This is a great start. He has more touchdowns already this year than his entire 3 years combined.

Top 75

Once again I’ll update the White receivers in the top 75 in national receiving yards. By no means does this list represent who our best receivers and prospects are. Obviously, their playing time, QB situation, offense type and overall team competency play into skewing these stats. None the less, it’s still fun to keep track of. The results for our guys in the top 75 in receiving yards after Week 2:

Aaron Pflugrad – Arizona St (Sr.) – 11 for 230 & 4 TDs (12[SUP]th[/SUP])
After 2 seasons wasting away at Oregon, Aaron wisely decided to transfer. After sitting out in 09 and getting limited playing time in 10, is seems it’s finally time for his breakout. With 4.52 40 speed and good elusiveness, he could be a NFL “riser†as the season progresses.

Conner Vernon – Duke (Jr.) – 14 for 176 & 0 TDs (41[SUP]st[/SUP])
A great talent hidden on an awful Duke team. It’s truly a shame that the caste system forced a guy from Miami (hotbed for talent, just not if you’re White) with great measurable to play at a non-football university. If he ever gets a fair shot in the NFL, I predict he will be a very good to great player.

Michael Campanaro – Wake Forest – (So.) – 12 for 172 & 2 TDs (T 44[SUP]th[/SUP])
After receiving more carries than receptions as a freshman, it appears that Michael is a full time receiver. It is a shame he isn’t allowed to play running back or corner back because with his speed and agility he would certainly be great at either position. With that being said, expect him to dominate the ACC as a receiver for the next few seasons.

Cole Beasley – SMU (Sr.) – 17 for 155 & 0 TDs (T 59[SUP]th[/SUP])
Cole should be the “go to receiver†for SMU this year. Along with RB Zach Line, that is a dynamic duo. At 5’-9â€, expect him to play the “Welker†if he gets any shot after this season.

Ryan Griffin – UConn – (Jr.) – 7 for 144 & 1 TD (T 71[SUP]st[/SUP])
The 6’-6â€, 250 lb tight end was named to the preseason watch list for the John Mackey Award (top TE in the country).

Tyler Eifert – Notre Dame – (Jr.) – 10 for 144 & 0 TDs (T 71[SUP]st[/SUP])
Tyler took over last season as the starter when Kyle Rudolph was injured. He was a top recruited player out of HS so we should expect big things from him.

Some other guys to watch out for this year include:
Cody Wilson – Cent. Mich. (Jr.)
Jeremy Ebert – Northwestern (Sr.)
T.J. Moe – Missouri (Jr.)
Ryan Swope – Texas A&M (Jr.)
Josh Cooper – Oklahoma St. (Sr.)
Jared Karstetter - Washington St. (Sr.)
Danny Coale - Virginia Tech (Sr.)
Alexander Torres - Texas Tech (Jr.)
Mike Shanahan – Pittsburgh (Jr.)
Bobby Swigert – Boston College (So.)
Taylor Stockemer – Arkansas St. (Jr.)
Alex Neutz – Buffalo (So.)
Devon Wylie – Fresno St. (Sr.)
Jaxon Shipley – Texas (Fr.)
Billy Ray Stutzmann – Hawaii (So.)

Aaron Plugrad was mentioned in a NY Post article today by castewhore Lenn Robbins. Apparently he was a waterboy during the time his father was an assistant coach at ASU between 1995-2001. The article was a 911 piece celebrating heroes such as Pat Tillman. Apparently Plugrad cried when he found out Tillman was killed in April of 2004. The article went on to say how tough it was for a 5'8" white boy to make Division I football. Wow. Why cant MSM reporters see that it might ne racist to call someone a white boy as if he isint athletic enough to succeed anywhere? These stories are a dime a dozen and yet noone is reporting this obvious anti white biggotry. Apparently despite the apparent athleticism displayed by Plugrad in high school he was still berated by black players for being a small white boy despite the fact he consistently ran a 10.8 100 meters on the track team. God I hate racist black people.

Cole Beasley does not look like he should even be on the field, yet he has consistantly found ways to get open and make catches. The kid is good.

Let's not forget Jaxon Shipley of Texas who looks like a star in the making.

Wisconsin's Jared Abbrederis had game-highs with 6 grabs and 83 yards. not bad for a walk-on, i'd say.

unfortunately, his black quarterback continues to look toward Nick Toon in the endzone ... at least when White tight end Jacob Pedersen isn't open, anyway. Pedersen had 2 catches for 63 yards and 1 touchdown today. that makes 10 catches and 4 touchdowns on the year for the complete package at tight end for the Badgers.

********************************

Virginia Tech's Danny Coale(burner) put up impressive numbers despite playing with a scattershot-armed black quarterback. Coale had game-highs with 7 catches, 128 yards, and 1 touchdown. he also added 1 rush for 9 yards. he apparently stood on his lunch pail in order to out-jump the "real" talent in the below pic.

Danny Coale-burner skies.JPG

in the same contest, Arkansas State's Taylor Stockemer had 3 receptions for a team-high 77 yards. you'd think at some point he'd become the #1-target in the passing game ... if the Caste System weren't real, at any rate.

*******************************

Texas freshman Jaxon Shipley continues to make plays in myriad ways. today he threw 1 pass (it went for a 5-yard touchdown), he had 1 carry for 15 yards, and he added 5 catches for 46 yards. he did, however, muff a punt.

*******************************

Wyoming's Dominic Rufran had 3 catches for 24 yards and 1 touchdown.

*******************************

Bowling Green tight end Alex Bayer caught 3 balls for 62 yards and 1 touchdown (from 40 yards out).

*******************************

Duke's Conner Vernon was absolutely dominant: 6 catches, 116 yards, 2 touchdowns (from 53 and 21 yards).

conner vernon sprints to the endzone.JPG

******************************

Boise State's Snow Storm of receivers completely dominated the affletic secondary of Toledo:

Mitch Burroughs: 6 catches, 76 yards
Matt Miller (a redshirt freshman): 6 catches, 65 yards
Tyler Shoemaker: 4 catches, 52 yards, and 3 touchdowns
Kirby Moore: 4 catches, 46 yards
Gabe Linehan (tight end): 3 catches, 56 yards
Chris Potter: 2 catches, 23 yards; 2 punt returns for 10 yards
Kyle Efaw (tight end): 1 catch, 12 yards, and 1 touchdown

here are a few more standout performances from yesterday's games ...

Josh Cooper tied for a game-high 7 catches for a game-high 78 yards for Oklahoma State.

Arizona State’s Aaron Pflugard had 7 catches for 75 yards in their loss to Illinois.

Jeremy Ebert’s big day was spoiled as Northwestern fell to Army (and Trent Steelman’s 108 yards and 3 touchdowns on the ground). still, Ebert had game-highs of 6 catches, 108 yards, and 2 receiving touchdowns.

Cole Beasley’s dominant first-half didn’t translate into outrageous numbers in the second, but he still ended up with a game-high 11 catches for a game- and career-high 171 yards.

Does anyone know when Persa will return to the lineup for Northwestern? Ebert's numbers should jump up once he is back in the line up.

Jimmy C, thanks a ton for all of the updates. A great week for our guys compared to the previous 2.

I can't ever remember being as excited about a team's receiving options than I am with Boise St. The fact that they are a top 5 team really makes it that much better.

Top 75 - Week 3

Cole Beasley – SMU (Sr.) – 28 for 326 & 0 TDs (13th)

Aaron Pflugrad – Arizona St (Sr.) – 18 for 305 & 4 TDs (21st)

Conner Vernon – Duke (Jr.) – 20 for 292 & 2 TDs (T24th)

Billy Ray Stutzmann - Hawai'i (So.) - 17 for 221 & 0 TDs (T58th)

Alex Neutz - Buffalo (So.) - 17 for 210 & 1 TD (69th)

Guys within 25 yards of the top 75:
Ryan Swope – Texas A&M (Jr.)
Danny Coale - Virginia Tech (Sr.)

Only 5 guys in the top 75 is very poor. That's only 7%. I would expect this to go up as the season progresses and guys like TJ Moe, Jeremy Ebert, Cody Wilson and Swope step it up.

Athletes' like Tyler Eifert and Matt Furstenburg are really "big wideouts." They are quick, lean, and look kind of thin.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/player/_/id/483387/tyler-eifert

http://espn.go.com/college-football/player/_/id/377696/matt-furstenburg

Notre Dame needs to use Eifert more, and with Rees' starting now and trying to get settled, we might see him utilized more. Furstenburg has looked great in Maryland's two games this season.

There's more talent out there - like Phil Lutzenkirchen - but it looks like Auburn is mostly using him as a "redzone guy".. what a waste. Stanford's Coby Fleener had two good games, followed by a down-game against Arizona: http://espn.go.com/college-football/player/_/id/236965/coby-fleener

The "college landscape" may not look the best, but I try to find spots that lend itself to having some optimism.

I think Iowa State's Josh Lenz has been mentioned here for his kickoff and punt return skills but he is getting a lot of passes thrown his way which I didin't predict happening the way they used him the previous 2 years.

So 40 of the top 41 wide receivers are black? Are there any other races in that group?

And what happened to Cole Beasley? Is he injured?

A great recap of the receivers I'm bringing over from the week 7 thread. Thanks TwentyTwo for compiling that! I'd just add CMU receiver Cody Wilson to the list as he had 103 yards on the day. I counted 9 receivers and tight ends going over the century mark. It might be the best week so far for White guys.

Top 75:

Ryan Swope – Texas A&M (Jr.) - 40 for 619 & 6 TDs (21st)

Conner Vernon – Duke (Jr.) – 40 for 593 & 3 TDs (25th)

Tyler Shoemaker - Boise St (Sr.) - has an amazing 8 TDs too!
Alex Neutz - Buffalo (So.)
Jared Abbrederis - Wisconsin (So.)
Jaxon Shipley - Texas (Fr.) - our best freshman and a beast already
Aaron Pflugrad – Arizona St (Sr.)

Week 8

Another good week for our receivers and tight ends as 10 guys went over the century mark, with 2 more at that mark for all intensive purposes:
Alex Neutz (135 & 1TD), Danny Coale (118), Josh Lenz (117), Brent Leonard, LA-Monroe (113), Jeremy Ebert (109), Devon Wylie (108), Jack Doyle, W. Kentucky (106), Luke Wilson, Rice (104 & 1TD), T.J. Moe (103 & 1TD), Wilson Van Hooser, Tulane (100 & 1TD), Cody Wilson (99 & 1TD), Tyler Shoemaker (98 & 1TD).

The Top 75 is also on the uptick:

Ryan Swope – Texas A&M (Jr.) - 44 for 659 & 6 TDs (24th)

Conner Vernon – Duke (Jr.) – 47 for 652 & 3 TDs (25th)

Cole Beasley – SMU (Sr.) – 48 for 606 & 1 TD (32nd)

Danny Coale - Virginia Tech (Sr.) - 40 for 565 & 2 TDs (40th)

Jeremy Ebert – Northwestern (Sr.) - 44 for 540 & 6 TDs (48th)

Alex Neutz - Buffalo (So.) - 39 for 531 3 TDs (49th)

Tyler Shoemaker - Boise St. (Sr.) - 28 for 499 & 9 TDs (56th)

Cody Wilson - Cent. Michigan (Jr.) - 43 for 483 & 3 TDs (61st)

Jared Abbrederis - Wisconsin (So.) - 30 for 482 & 2 TDs (T62nd)

Brent Leonard - LA Monroe (Jr.) - 46 for 480 & 3 TDs (64th)

T.J. Moe - Missouri (Jr.) - 37 for 478 & 3 TDs (65th)

Alex Torres - Texas Tech - 39 for 475 & 4 TDs (T66th)

*A big increase from 7 outta 75 last week to 12 outta 75. That's 16% White, which is still
poor. We'll really notice a positive change when we hit the 20% to 30% range. When I think about how every season the top receivers in HS, from most states, are White guys, forced to walk-on, go to a small D1 / D2/ D3 school or get totally ignored, it really makes my blood boil. These young men should be staring for their big, powerhouse state schools.

It's sad to see T.J. Moe buried down the list at number 65. I've been to the last two Mizzou games and he's playing as well as ever, he is almost always wide-open, but is severely handicapped by having black quarterback James Franklin under center. Missouri hides Franklin's major weakness by running the majority of plays, and by having a simply outstanding offensive line. I'll cut Franklin a little slack as he's a sophomore in his first year starting, but his major weakness is seeing the field. If his first read is even slighly covered, he struggles mightily with his check-downs, then after he's used up his 5 seconds in the pocket afforded him by the line, he is wildly inaccurate if he can't set his feet when running out of the pocket. Oklahoma State focused on covering Michael Egnew (Franklin's normal first read) and then Moe. Victory was assured.

I was busy this weekend so when I finally had time to check the box scores and I looked to my usual "favorite" teams and our top receivers I was disappointed by the results. Well I started really digging and found some unheralded receivers, even at CF, did well. Most notably red-shirted freshman Colby Harper of UL-Monroe lead his teams in catches and yards. With Harper and Brent Leonard, the Warhawks are an interesting team to watch. 8 guys by my count when over the century mark: Jared Karstetter (114 & a TD), Abbrederis (113 & 2 TDs), Dunsmore (112 & 4 TDs!), Neutz (110 & a TD), Harper (110 & a TD), Rob Arnheim (104 & a TD), Briggs Orsbon (103 & 2 TDs), Griff Whalen (102).

The Top 75:

Conner Vernon – Duke (Jr.) – 51 for 740 & 3 TDs (22nd)

Ryan Swope – Texas A&M (Jr.) - 52 for 725 & 7 TDs (24th)

Cole Beasley – SMU (Sr.) – 52 for 685 & 1 TD (31st)

Alex Neutz - Buffalo (So.) - 43 for 641 & 4 TDs (36th)

Danny Coale - Virginia Tech (Sr.) - 42 for 627 & 2 TDs (40th)

Jared Abbrederis - Wisconsin (So.) - 36 for 595 & 4 TDs (51st)

Jeremy Ebert – Northwestern (Sr.) - 45 for 569 & 7 TDs (54th)

Brent Leonard - LA Monroe (Jr.) - 52 for 560 & 3 TDs (58th)

Billy Ray Stutzmann - Hawai'i (So.) - 47 for 528 & 3 TDs (67th)

Cody Wilson - Cent. Michigan (Jr.) - 47 for 522 & 3 TDs (70th)

T.J. Moe - Missouri (Jr.) - 41 for 516 & 3 TDs (73rd)

Alex Torres - Texas Tech - 41 for 510 & 4 TDs (76th) ok, I snuck him in....
