Biletnikoff Award Finalists

Alshon Jeffery (South Carolina)
Justin Blackmon (Oklahoma State)
Ryan Broyles (Oklahoma)

Those teams have White QBs starting...

Outland Trophy Finalists

Nate Solder (Colorado)
Gabe Carimi (Wisconsin)
Rodney Hudson (Florida State)

Interesting list... I'd bet a good sum of money that "Superman" Rodney Hudson will get the Trophy. When the media describes him as "undersized," they aren't kidding! Plenty of White guards are taller than his 6-2 and have superior builds.

I'm not exactly sure why the media has chosen him - in particular - as their Superhero..

This awards thread can be expanded by anyone, but I just wanted to get it started.

Carimi has dominated agianst the best DEs in the country. I think he should be heavily favorited over both Hudson and Solder.

Hopefully, UGA (1st team All American) Kicker Drew Butler will win the Ray Guy award again this year.

Patrick Patterson won the Bednarik.. I think the other two finalists were punk Nick Fairley and DaQuan Bowers.

J.J. Watt should have been a finalist..

If the Heisman is going to Newton...Andrew Luck could/should have Won the O'Brien Award....like when Ingram Won the Heisman & Gerhart Won the Doak Walker last year.

Guess we will see who gets picked 1st in the NFL11' Draft

College football awards make no sense when it comes to the player of the year awards. They have two awards for the player of the year on the day of the awards ceremony. Then on Saturday the original player of the year is awarded. What I don't get is how they awards are usually split up. Last year McCoy won the two Thursday awards but finished a distant third for the Heisman. Also if Mel Brooks is the mc I think he should do Jews in Football for a skit(play on Jews in Outer Space)....

Didn't see a thread on this but they keep showing clips for the Death Penalty story, its being promoted, it comes on right after the Heisman ceremony. Would a team like Auburn ever get something like the death penalty? nope

Interesting that the clips they show of Eric Dickerson are getting huge gains, and Craig James getting stuffed for a small 2 or 3 yard gain. Craig James had one of the best games in bowl history with 225 yards, 3 tds on 23 carries against BYU, pretty much every other play he had in that game was huge. He had a 96 yard reception in another game which was the longest play in Southwest Conference history. People act like James was garbage and only got 3743 rushing yards at SMU because "he played behind the best offensive line money could buy". I guess thats why he broke the texas 4a rushing record in high school with 2400 yards rushing in one season as well leading the Patriots to the Superbowl with 1200 yards, 1500 total yards from scrimmage, making it to the pro bowl. If it wasn't for his injuries (1 knee ligament in the USFL as well as back injury that took him out 4 games and another knee injury in the NFL along with a shoulder injury) he could have had multiple seasons of 1k rushing. Its not like there weren't big plays to choose from, besides big gains at SMU he had runs of 67, 73, 57, a 90 yard swing pass (longest play from scrimmage for the Pats for the longest time) etc in his brief NFL career. He was known for the unique ability to have power to run in between the tackles as well as speed to break off big gains. Yeah he was shut down in the Superbowl, but so was Dickerson the week before.

So a 3 yard gain is the only cllip they could find?

If Luck enters the Draft now, he'll likely land on a sumo-team.. I'm hoping he returns to Stanford and they make another run at the BCS.

Let Cam Newton get selected by Cinci, Arizona or Washington..

Here is a recap of the college football awards for this season thus far, along with CasteRivals "preferred winner". To give them a little credit, they thought that Luke Kuechly should have won the Butkus award. Sorry that sCam Newton has his hand over his mouth in the photo, I'm sure all of you fellow CF posters would have loved to see his "room brightening yellow smile" again:

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Auburn quarterback Cameron Newton cleaned up at the 2010 College Football Awards show Thursday night, taking home three trophies and setting himself up for the biggest individual trophy of all.

Newton, who has guided Auburn to a 13-0 mark, won the Davey O'Brien Award as the nation's top quarterback, the Maxwell Award as the nation's best all-around player and the Walter Camp Player of the Year award. He's the heavy favorite to win the Heisman on Saturday night in New York.

<TD align=middle>Cameron Newton won the Maxwell, Walter Camp and Davey O'Brien awards.</TD></TR></T></T></TABLE>Newton beat two other Heisman finalists - Boise State's Kellen Moore and Stanford's Andrew Luck - to win the O'Brien and the Maxwell.

Ten awards were handed out during the show, and six were won by SEC players. In addition to Newton's three honors, LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson won the Chuck Bednarik Award as the nation's best defensive player and the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation's top defensive back, and Florida's Chas Henry won the Ray Guy Award as the nation's top punter.

Peterson is the first player to pull the Bednarik-Thorpe double since Michigan cornerback Charles Woodson in 1997.

Alamo Bowl-bound Oklahoma State had a big night, as well. Justin Blackmon won the Biletnikoff Award, given to the nation's top wide receiver, and Dan Bailey won the Groza Award as the nation's top kicker.

Oregon's LaMichael James - the other Heisman finalist - won the Doak Walker Award as the nation's top running back, and Wisconsin's Gabe Carimi won the Outland Trophy, given to the nation's best interior lineman.

Bailey, Carimi and Henry were the only senior winners. Newton and Peterson are juniors, while Blackmon and James are sophomores.

While the other award winners spoke to the media both before and during the event, Newton talked only to ESPN - briefly, at that - beforehand. That stems from the controversy surrounding Newton's recruitment out of Blinn College last year. Though he has been cleared to play by the NCAA, it was announced before the event that Newton would not grant interviews.

The other Heisman finalists did talk, and when Moore was asked if he thought Newton would win the award, he answered with a laugh, "Obviously. He's the best in the business."

The other finalists didn't want to pick a Heisman winner, though Luck did laugh and say, "Who's going to win? Hmm. I think I'll just say 'no comment.' "

LSU's Peterson wasn't shy at all about giving his opinion as to whether Newton would take home the Heisman. Newton ran for 217 yards and two touchdowns in Auburn's 24-17 win over LSU on Oct. 23.

"Definitely," he said. "Hands down, he's the best player. He's a machine. The guy's a wall of bricks. ... He's carried that team on his back to the national championship game."

The four finalists leave Orlando for New York on Friday morning, and Moore said he was looking forward to the trip.

"I'm from a town of 5,000 [Prosser, Wash.]," he said, "and I'm going to a place where there will be 5,000 people on one street."

I'm convinced that the National Media has a "Clemson fetish".. If Bowers' is selected in the Top 10, where Kiper has him going, that team may end up sorely disappointed.

About half of ACC teams start black QBs, and some of them have very poor "pocket-presence".. which leads to stat-inflation. In the NFL, because of all the blitzes and such, the White QBs know that they have to get rid of the ball. Bowers' has a good motor, but he's lacking in physical-strength and "pure athleticism."

"Over-achiever" J.J. Watt could easily be a better pick-up for an NFL team. Also, it wouldn't surprise me if Ryan Kerrigan was selected in the 2nd Round, when he was a consistent producer for ALL 4 years at Purdue...

P.S. -- From what I've seen, Clemson's interior D-line was at least "solid" (and they will be proclaimed "NFL-material").. what was Ryan Kerrigan "working with" at Purdue?

The "Awards" were a blackfest as expected.

It's worth documenting, though. It's good that Carimi won the Outland Trophy. One strong Jew!
