I had no idea Hillis got the start at TB today, and did very well in the first half. Unfortunately, his fumble was somewhat costly and based on some of the articles I checked out on the Plain Dealer, they are definitely highlighting that mistake, next to two Delhomme INTs.

So, on the one hand, we must be very happy that Hillis has been given such a deserving and golden opportunity. But, I feel like he's on a tight leash and if he fumbles one more time, I think we'll probably see his carries greatly reduced. Such is the way of life for the white NFL skill position player, especially one as precious as TB. I really hope Hillis will not be punished for this and get another shot this week and hopefully redeem himself somewhat.

On a positive note, most the comments I saw in the articles do not blame Hillis for much of anything, so at least the fans are still on his side.

foobar75,

What I saw of this game by watching the stats on nfl.com was they punished Hillis for the fumble and dithered most of the game and when they finally put him back in to try and pull the chestnuts out of the fire, it was too late. I'm very sure Hillis will get more shots. The Browns might want to sit him down, but none of the black rb's did diddlysquat, so they're stuck with Hillis.

That loss was terrible for the Browns. They never should have lost to the bucs, never!!!

The carries were split evenly between Hillis and Harrison. Harrison did bust off a long run of 39 yards but was mediocre on the rest of his runs. Hillis also had 4 receptions but the two fumbles he had could hurt him. He needs to hold on to the ball or he'll be replaced very soon by an afflete.

The true turning point of this game was when Delhomme threw a horrific interception to Barber at the end of the first half. Up until that point, the Browns were dominating the awful Bucs. Great move- cutting ties with 10 career game starter "bust" Brady Quinn for someone who has been through for over a year, at least.

I was actually amazed they let Hillis back in the game at all after he fumbled. Usually there is no margin of error for white players.

He actually fumbled twice yesterday if I remember correctly. The other team recovered one of those fumbles.

even rotoworld is saying that Hillis is a better option for fantasy owners. they also mention that a bulk of Harrison's yards came on one long run.

Peyton Hillis started the Browns' Week 1 loss over Jerome Harrison.

Harrison was more productive in terms of yards per carry, though most of his yardage came on a gain of 39 that set up Hillis' 10-yard score in the second quarter. Hillis got more touches and will be the primary red-zone back, so he appears to be a stronger fantasy bet than Harrison heading to Week 2 against Kansas City. If Hillis is on the waiver wire, pick him up.

It's been obvious from the first time he played in a regular season game midway through last season that Evan Moore is a star in the making at tight end. Ben Watson is a typical black TE -- slow, bad hands -- but is still the starter in Cleveland at this point. Moore is so much better than Watson that the only question is how long will it take for the organization to do the obvious. Hopefully it won't be another situation like in Chicago, where Desmond Clark is of journeyman quality but year after year is either still the starter over Greg Olsen or still sees the field a lot. White players can be demoted instantly after a single mistake, while "revered" black starters have to be eased out over a prolonged period of time. Moore had 3 receptions for an outstanding 87 yards in the opener.

*** TE Evan Moore (CLE) Moore flashed his hands and athleticism at the end of last season, and looks ready to be a steady contributor this year in the Browns’ two-TE sets. Ben Watson is the starter, but Moore was on the field quite a bit, and got nearly as many targets. (Watson had six Moore had five.) Moore played WR in college at Stanford and has the speed to get downfield from the TE position. Each of his catches on Sunday went for nice gains. On his 49-yard reception, he caught the ball about six yards down field and was hit immediately, but kept his balance and scampered down the right side of the field or a big play.

Caste Football Looks at the 2010 Cleveland Browns

The Browns are an above average team for White players, with 19 Whites on the 53 man roster and 6 White starters. The number of White starters gets an asterisk, as Peyton Hillis got the start at tailback in Week One (due to injury to black RBs of course), and starting ILB Chris Gocong is considered White by many. Also, TE Evan Moore is clearly much more talented than the perennially disappointing starter at the position, Ben Watson, and should be the starter by the end of the season unless his "racial apprenticeship" is deemed to continue beyond this season.

By far the most interest is focused on Hillis, a 6-2 245 pound package of power, good speed for his size, and excellent vision and running ability. A superstar running back in high school who went to Arkansas and mainly blocked for NFL disappointments Felix Jones and Darren McFadden, both first round draft picks, Hillis was selected as a fullback by Denver in the 7th round in 2008. After six, count 'em six, black RBs were all felled by injuries, Mike Shanahan was forced to use Hillis at tailback, and the then-rookie was easily the team's best runner that season. When Josh McDaniels took over for Shanahan in 2009, he immediately banished Hillis from his taboo role, turning him back to his "racially mandated" role of fullback, and a little used one at that.

In the offseason Hillis was traded to Cleveland for Brady Quinn. Some optimists hoped that Hillis would be given a shot at the starting running back job against Jerome Harrison, but veteran Caste System devotee Mike Holmgren quickly squashed those hopes by drafting oft-injured Montario Hardesty in the second round in April to be the Browns' featured back. However Hardesty quickly reverted to form and went out for the year from a knee injury in his first preseason action, and once again that darned Hillis moved up the depth chart thanks to attrition.

After clearly besting Harrison as the team's best runner in the exhibition games, Hillis and Harrison had an equal number of carries in the season opener, with Hillis being more effective. However he uncharacteristically fumbled twice, which the media and self-loathing White fans jumped on as reasons why Hillis had to be replaced, either by Harrison, or the proverbial black journeyman "off the street."

Peyton Hillis is clearly a very talented all-around running back and should be the starter. But for the past 25 years the NFL has refused to let a single White man run the ball as a starter except in "emergency" situations when all the "real" running backs were injured. And on each of those occasions -- whether Brock Forsey, Heath Evans, Brad Hoover, Travis Jervey, Brian Leonard or Peyton Hillis -- the "emergency" running back has acquitted himself well only to quickly find himself moved back to his "proper" position of fullback. Hillis is a classic power back who would be an unquestioned starter at tailback in the integrated NFL of the 1950s, '60s, '70, and early '80s. But given the total "whiteout" on White RBs going back close to 30 years now, it's hard to be optimistic about Hillis's career trajectory from here, especially with Mikey Holmgren calling the personnel shots in Cleveland.

Veteran Jake Delhomme is the Browns' new starting quarterback. Written off by virtually all the experts after last season, Delhomme hopes to show that he still has something left. The fans and writers are always quick to call White quarterbacks washed up or young ones are often proclaimed "busts" before they even get a chance to prove themselves. Kurt Warner was similarly proclaimed as finished when he was with the Giants before he revitalized his career in Arizona.

Rookie Colt McCoy is the third string quarterback. Despite his tremendous career at Texas and his status as a third round draft pick, many "experts" were speculating that the Browns would cut him in training camp because he didn't immediately sparkle. This is the glaring double standard that is applied time and again to White players. Can anyone imagine calls for Vince Young or any other hyped black QB to be cut in his rookie training camp? It's unimaginable, just one of many absurd barriers and double standards facing White football players beginning in high school and often even earlier.

The team's three White starting o-linemen are outstanding -- C Alex Mack and LT Joe Thomas are former first round picks, while LG Eric Steinbach out of Iowa begins his 8th season. The Browns figure to run to the left quite a bit as the right side of the line is manned by two black journeymen who are less than average -- Floyd Womack and John St. Clair (how is St. Clair still in the league?).

Tony Pashos is a backup tackle.

The Browns begin the 2010 season with 8 White defensive players, a huge number by NFL standards. The starting outside linebacker spots are manned by Matt Roth and Scott Fujita. Roth came over from Miami during the '09 season and made an immediate impact, while Fujita (who is White and was raised by Asian parents) is a solid offseason free agent signing.

The above-mentioned Gocong is one of the starting inside backers in Cleveland's 3-4 defense. Jason Trusnik and Blake Constanzo are backups, Trusnik on the outside and Constanzo on the inside. Trusnik did a good job as a starter in several games in '09.

Brian Schaefering out of little Lindenwood College is a backup end who sees a fair amount of snaps. He's going into his second season.

The backfield includes Nick Sorenson, a 10th year safety out of Virginia Tech who has spent most of his career as the stereotypical "White Special Teams Demon." Safety Ray Ventrone, in his fifth season out of Villanova, is likewise mainly a WSTD.

Ten of the organization's 15 assistant coaches are White.

NUMBER OF WHITE STARTERS: 6 (7 including Gocong, 8 if Hillis is the RB)

NUMBER OF WHITE PLAYERS ON 53 MAN ROSTER: 19

GRADE: D+

More on Peyton Hillis from Rotoworld:

Coach Eric Mangini indicated that Jerome Harrison and Peyton Hillis will continue to share the load in the Browns' backfield.
<div ="s_pNewsTextMain">
"I have total confidence in either one," Mangini said, "so whoever we
have in, if those plays are rolling, I'm happy to continue rolling with
them. It's a good situation." Neither back is attractive even as a flex
option until the bye weeks start to come around.

ESPN is projecting a big game out of Hillis this week, 15 points for fantasy. His value as a goal line\power back is starting to be realized.

Actually a goal like back with pass catching ability is quite an asset in Fantasy Football. Hillis should be a prime member of any FF roster. The insinuation that he wasn't worthy of having on a FF team is ridiculous and will be borne out by his numbers soon (hopefully).

A couple of years ago I did quite well with LaRon McClain the otherwise useless slug of a RB for Baltimore. He was given a lot of touches near the goal line and racked up some TD's.

Although with Hillis we hope he is much more then that but at the very least he should be desirable for his projected upside.

I outdid you lol. I waited until the very last round (round 14) to grab Hillis, b/c I knew he'd probably be available. People still had a strange look on their face "for some reason".

This is Jerome Harrison talking on 9/15:

Jerome Harrison admitted Wednesday that he was surprised by his limited role in the Browns' Week 1 loss to Tampa Bay.

He wasn't the only one. "But we had a game plan and I'm all about the game plan," he said. Harrison came off the bench for 10 touches, generating 59 yards. Clearly, the Browns envision him as no more than a change-of-pace back. Peyton Hillis is a better fantasy bet in Week 2 against Kansas City.

Now fast forward two days and read what Harrison is now saying and notice the change in the Fantasy Football recap:

Cleveland Browns RB Jerome Harrison is looking for more carries in Week 2, according to Tony Grossi, of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Harrison carried the ball nine times for 52 yards against in Week 1. 'I can only control what I can control,' Harrison said. 'I'm a player, not the coach. If I was coaching, I'd give myself the ball damn near every play. Because I believe in myself like that ... All I can do is hope things change. If I feel like I need to say something, I will, if it gets to that point. But I'm hoping it never does.' Head coach Eric Mangini said that Harrison and FB Peyton Hillis will continue to share the rushing load. Ideally, Harrison would like 20 to 30 carries a game. 'Twenty carries allows you to get in a rhythm and get a feel for a defense,' Harrison said. 'Most big runs come later on after you've got a good feel and figure out what they're doing.'
Fantasy Impact: Harrison deserves more work and is the most talented back on the roster, but the Browns aren't really giving him a fair shake right now.

My two cents is Harrison is another black who will complain loud and long for his own position rather than that of the teams. He shoud be benched.

I thought Ventrone was of mixed race.

I've seen several "mystery meats" with Italian surnames, and I'm hesitant to latch onto them as White athletes unless there is proof (like family pictures of parents/grandparents).

This is 2010, where surnames don't mean as much as they used to, due to miscegenation/adoptions, and just (light-skinned) people who change their surnames to try and "pass" as White.

Recently, from looking at Rivals, I've seen multiple (but not a ton) mixed blacks with Italian surnames. No way were they White.. They were ******* and had the primitive wide-set eyes (and the thug stare). If I went to Italy, I doubt that I would see much genetics like that.
I have seen a few Italian Americans who I thought were Mulatto ie Jim Croce or Mike Tirico. Tirico is so ******* looking I assumed that when he explained that was 100 percent Italian American that he was switched at birth with a Puerto Rican baby or Mulatto American baby(half joking). Vetrone looks 100 percent White to me.

No way Tirico is Italian (other than maybe partially). He makes Roy Campanella (half-black half Italian)look pasty by comparison. Do you havea link for that? I've tried several times to do a search on Tirico's racial background without success, but he looks almost full-blooded negro to me.

I don't know if he looks like a full-blooded negro but he looks half black. It seems to me that he's one of those smug, white hating oreos that are all too common. It's also possible he's half black mixed with hispanic.

It's a topic in the happy hour section buried somewhere. I was shocked as anybody like I said I assumed the name was Spanish and he was Puerto Rican.

Tirico not sure he's black.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Mike_Tirico
African-American?

Not according to an interview with Mike in the Syracuse newspaper back when he worked at WTVH. It's in the (paid) archives at www.syracuse.com if you want to look it up (May 30, 1991, Section Living, Page C1, excerpt:

It's not just broadcasters who admire Tirico.

Local African-American groups often invite him to speak during Black History Month and on other occasions, viewing Tirico as a prominent example of a successful black professional.

He doesn't mind speaking, Tirico tells them, but he also lets them know a fact of his life: He's not sure he's black.

"When people go around and say, 'You are black' - well, I don't encourage it, but by the same token I don't back off of it," he says.

"If you want to call me that, that's fine. But, you know, in my whole family, there's nobody I know who is black."

Raised in Queens

Michael Todd Tirico grew up in a middle-class Italian family in Queens, about a five-minute drive from Shea Stadium.

Tirico's parents, Donald and Maria, were separated when he was about 4, and he says he has since lost contact with his father's side of the family. Tirico is an only child.

Because of his dark skin and ethnic features, Tirico says, most people assume he is black.

But he's seen pictures of his father, his father's mother and his father's sister - all of whom are white, Tirico says.

"The only contact I had growing up was with my mom's side of the family. And they are all as white as the refrigerator I'm standing in front of right now," Tirico says, standing in his kitchen in the Clay townhouse where he lives.

Someday, he says, he plans to do genealogical research to find out if he has a black ancestor, but it's not something he considers a pressing issue.

Tirico concedes, though, that his uncertain ethnicity sometimes makes other uncomfortable. Even skeptical.

"I know the story sounds like a lot of bull, but it's the truth" he says. "Does it matter to me? Yeah, I'd like to find out the truth at some point, so I can answer questions for my kids. But me? I'm living, I'm working, I'm leading an upstanding life. I don't worry about it." )

That's weird. I always thought of Tirico as a Bryant Gumbel type. Whatever he is, I continually have to mute him because he's always rambling about "personal interest" stories unrelated to the game. He's horrible.

Back to the topic: Harrison grumbling about his lack of carries. One acronym comes to mind: TNB.

Perhaps Terico is not black, but I do suspect some Puerto Rican in there.

Maybe Tirico will do a Madeline Albright and Christopher Hitchens (who both suddenly "discovered" in their late middle age that they have Jewish backgrounds) and "discover" that he is indeed black. I just don't buy his story that White is Right posted above. From what's left of his hair it looks to be of the kinky ******* variety. His skin is as dark or darker than the average American black, and his facial features are that of a black man. Maybe he was adopted by his Italian family and they never told him.
smiley17.gif
That or he is a genetic mutant of some kind, who got his genes primarily from some great or great-great black grandparent. If that guy's White then I guess the Cultural Marxists are right that race doesn't exist.

I think it's obvious his father left his mother when he realized she had had a black kid. Maybe it took him a few years to realized WTF? I can't be the father of this kid. Woman cuckholding their husbands is nothing new but who could stand to parade a black kid around as "their" kid.
